Father Christmas Bath Bomb from Lush

I held off from publishing this review until December as I try my very best to avoid everything Christmas until you can’t avoid it anymore… I also didn’t want to scare away any of my readers by raving about the Father Christmas Bath Bomb in September, I know a lot of you are Christmas crazy but I know others are complete scrooges like me! 😉

The Father Christmas bath bomb is very basic. This however doesn’t make it bad. It’s the same  size as the average larger sized Lush bath bomb. (The likes of the Think Pink and Butterball being small.)

Last year I described the Father Christmas bath bomb as ‘creepy looking’ I have since changed my mind and warmed to him. He actually looks quite jolly to me now.

This bath bomb is a part of the Snow Fairy scent family. Paired with this years brand new Snow Fairy Body Conditioner makes for one sweet, bath time treat.

Last year I wasn’t that crazy on the Snow Fairy products. I didn’t dislike them, I just prefered others.

For some reason earlier on in this year I started to really crave Snow Fairy. It is however a seasonal scent so I couldn’t get hold of any Snow Fairy products in the Summer at all!

When the Winter line was finally released this year, I grabbed as many Snow Fairy scented products as I could and have been really enjoying them ever since.

I have never been crazy on sweet things – food or products, so am really surprised that I have become so very keen on the Father Christmas bath bomb and all of the other Snow Fairy products currently available.

I can remember using this version of the Father Christmas bath bomb for the very first time last year.

I was very surprised to find that it had green insides! although it doesn’t create bath art that lives up to the likes of the Frozen or Enchanter bath bombs, its sudden burst of colour is very interesting to watch in the bathtub.

The sudden burst of colour reminds me of the bath bomb Ylang Song, so unexpected.

Everyone that first sees the Father Christmas bath bomb notices how pale it is, its exterior colours are not very vibrant at all, white and a very, very light pink. This made it even more of a surprise when you suddenly see dark green foam spurting out of it.


I don’t find the Father Christmas bath bomb to be very moisturising which is rare for a Lush bath bomb, since however bringing out the Snow Fairy body conditioner if used alongside the Father Christmas bath bomb it hydrates my skin and helps the Snow Fairy scent remain on my skin for longer.

I love being able to combine products with the same scent. Some products work really well with other differently scented products but Snow Fairy is quite hard to pair up.

With so many products available in its scent you can’t help but want to layer it up.

Last year (2015) if I really had to pick 2 bath bombs out of all of the ones that were available from the Winter collection that I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t come back, I would have said the Father Christmas and the Yog Nog bath bomb.

I don’t dislike either of them I just prefered others, both have however grown on me through out this year and out of the 2 I feel I like Yog Nog more. I am a little disappointed that Father Christmas lasted another year and Yog Nog didn’t.

It is however always nice to have a bath bomb returning for a season. It gives the indecisive Lush fans like me a chance to try them again. 9 times out of 10 I decide I do in fact like it so as sad as I am about Yog Nog now, I’m still happy to have the Father Christmas bath bomb back.

Santasaurus Reusable Bubble Bar from Lush

When I first clapped eyes on the huge display of the Santasaurus Reusable Bubble Bars, I couldn’t help but grab one. It is always so exciting to get your hands on a brand new Lush product and even more so when it smells as good as the Santasaurus does.

The Santasaurus reusable bubble bar comes from the Honey I Washed the Kids scent family. Lush Cosmetics do so much more than mix random essential oils together. They master scents. Once a scent is mastered, over a very long period of time – sometimes years, they create an abundance of products that share that mastered scent. This is where the Lush term ‘scent family’ comes from. If a product shares the same scent as another, it’s a part of that scents family.

Honey I Washed the Kids happens to be one of Lush’s best selling scents, it features in several of their products, both from their permanent line and from their seasonal ones too.

My current favourite products from this scent family are the Honey I Washed my Hair shampoo bar, the old design of the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb and of course the new version of the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb.

Compared to the other Winter reusable bubble bars Santasaurus appears to be quite small. I am however well aware that size doesn’t matter especially when it comes to Lush products.

The actual bubble bar I am reviewing today could easily give you 3 generously bubbled, bubble baths.

If you are however looking to turn the bath water under the bubbles a darker green then I’d recommend splitting it between two baths. Spreading the use of it over 3 baths however gives you more than enough bubbles. You could always make it last longer by combining it with other Lush products in a Lush cocktail. I prefer to use this bubble bar sparingly as I feel if you use too much, the water goes a really icky and dark green, I prefer it lighter.

I hate to state the obvious but if you’re new to Lush it can be a little confusing and people do actually ask these questions so I’ll answer it. The difference between a reusable bubble bar versus a normal one is that the reusable bubble bars can be reused before and after it has been fully immersed by water.

The ordinary ones could probably do the same although the quality of it once it’s got wet won’t be nearly as good. With the ordinary ones I advise people to cut them up into little chunks, storing them somewhere dry and in jars. Once this is done all you have to do is grab a chunk or 2 from that jar if and when you want to use it.

The reusable ones are on a stick and are a little less faff. All you need to do is hold the reusable bubble bar under the running bath tap. Once you have the desired amount of bubbles all you then have to do is leave it somewhere where it can dry off.

Once used I find if you leave it where it can get splashed, or somewhere it will stay wet it doesn’t last.

If you however follow the above steps then the bubble bar is a very good one, so many people use them wrong and it’s a shame as they aren’t seeing the products true potential.

Overall I think the Santasaurus bubble bar is a great addition to the Lush Winter line, I’d maybe like to see it a little bulkier but honestly the size of it doesn’t affect the quality of it at all.

It’s a beautifully sweet product that will almost certainly leave you wanting to get another.

Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly from Lush

Lush Cosmetics’ world famous Shower Jellies were first introduced to the world as an alternative & very unique shower product back in 2005. Back then I was a teenager of 15 years and my only worries were about boys. As for Lush Cosmetics they had just reached the tender age of 10 years young…

I still can’t quite get over the fact that I was 5 when they first opened their doors. The speed in which Lush have grown not only in the UK but worldwide makes me feel so OLD.

In just over 20 years they have literally changed the cosmetics industry for the better.

The concept behind the idea of a jelly product was inspired by the British, party food favourite, jelly and ice cream. Growing up in the 90’s & 00’s jelly was unavoidable at most children’s parties.

Lush are always one step ahead of every other company when it comes to new ideas. I am led to believe that someone high up at Lush was tucking into a nice bit of jelly and ice cream when they had the shower jelly brain wave.

Seeing as I could talk or write myself into winning an Olympic gold medal I decided to shorten this post up with a quote directly off of the Lush website itself. That way I can get on with the review of the very first shower jelly I had the pleasure of trying…

‘Shower jellies are a fantastic, versatile alternative to soaps and shower gels. You can: squish them into a pouf for a thick, creamy textured lather; chop them up into little one-wash sized cubes; chill them in the fridge or freezer for reviving cooling or get up close and personal by lathering them straight over your body.’

To be perfectly honest I did not get the concept of the shower jelly at all. I was getting along just fine with good old, ordinary shower gel. It wasn’t until 2015 that I actually tried one. Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly was my very first and I haven’t stopped raving about shower jellies since.

What was first a bit of a tongue twister for me has turned into one of my all time favourite Lush products. SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY, SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY, SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY… Say it fast over and over, you know you want to 😉

Santa’s Belly (sorry I said it again) shares its scent with the So White bath bomb, both the old design and 2016’s new one.

Its an apple based product. It reminds me of freshly cut up apples and if it was edible I’d be tucking right in to every product in its scent. Obviously it’s not edible so I just have to settle with washing and bathing with it, which might I add is heaven on earth!

The above quote from the Lush website sums up how to use a shower jelly. It can also be used in chunks in the same way as bubble bar and can even be used as shampoo.

I use mine in the same way as you would a bar of soap. Some people chop their ones up. I just prefer to use it as a whole. My first thought on trying it out was ‘wow this jelly is practically indestructible!’ it lathered up so well and so quickly too, it also didn’t appear to be getting noticeably smaller on use.

Of course it doesn’t last forever and eventually its size got smaller and smaller,  it however lasted for a lot longer than any shower gel I had ever had, its scent never diminished. Its fragrance remained as beautiful as the day I first opened it and from then on right up until it was all gone.

Since my discovery of Santa’s Belly, I have tried quite a few of the different ones Lush have on offer. They’re game changers! Santa’s Belly is still however my favourite of them all.

I was so pleased to see that they had brought it back out again in the 2016 Lush Winter line.

Most of the Lush jellies I have used are quite plain, Santa’s Belly is a little different as it has soft stars in it, giving it a special christmassy edge.

Before Christmas is over, you have to try Santa’s Belly shower jelly, using it alongside a So White bath bomb will make your bathroom feel like a portal into a fairytale kingdom.

Where princesses kiss frogs, fairy godmothers grant wishes and witches poison apples…
