Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar from Lush

Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar

This year Lush have decided to change the cosmetics world forever by creating and releasing packageless ‘naked’ products. Yes, they already do bubble bars instead of liquid bubble bath etc but this year they’ve taken things even further, products that you’d never even consider as being without a plastic bottle or glass tub now actually exist. They’ve given us naked shower gels, naked body lotions and even naked lip scrubs too…

The word that is currently on everyone within the Lush communities lips is, NAKED. Although  the Lush community appear to be somewhat divided on whether they are for or against the ‘naked’ products, I always like to give everything a try at least once.

Today I’d like to introduce you all to the Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar. As a part of Lush’s 2017 Christmas range, Lush have released 2 sparkle jars, the Twilight sparkle jar and the Snow Fairy one. Lush sparkle jars are hollow massage bars that have dusting powder in. Gone are the plastic bottles of dusting powder, what we now have instead is a massage-bar dusting-powder-shaker instead.

The sparkle jars are designed to be used as you would a salt and pepper pot, both have 2 sealed holes in, the idea behind it is that you poke the holes through once the product is with you and ready to use.

The Snow Fairy sparkle jar contains the best selling Fairy Dust dusting powder, once you have pierced both holes it is ready to use. To use the Snow Fairy sparkle jar, I gently rub the massage-bar-jar on where I am going to put the dust – obviously you have to keep the jar a certain way up so that you don’t lose any of the powder by accident.

This does make things a little difficult but not enough to make me disregard the product completely. With the recent discontinuation of so many of Lush’s massage bars I was ecstatic to hear of this wonderful new invention and wanted to give it a good try before I made up my mind on it.

When I refer to The Snow Fairy sparkle jar as a massage bar I don’t want to mislead you completely. The sparkle jar isn’t quite as soft or workable as an actual Lush massage bar, they are more robust and solid like the naked shower gels. They do not melt nearly as quickly in your hands and aren’t at all suitable if you are looking to use it for a deep tissue massage, I imagine the pressure required for a deep tissue massage would break the sparkle jar, spreading its dusting powder guts everywhere, (which no one wants!)

Regardless of this I am still a huge fan of the sparkle jars. Once you have finished rubbing the massage-bar-jar in to your skin, all that is left to do is sprinkle the powder out of it, lightly dusting your skin.

Using it as a gentle massage bar before applying the dusting powder leaves you with a subtle sparkly sheen while also adding an extra layer of fragrance to your skin too. After applying it, my skin is not only fragranced with the Snow Fairy scent but is also smooth to the touch. It makes your skin feel silky soft and works wonders in areas of your body that are prone to sometimes get excessively sweaty such as under your boobs, armpits etc.

Although it’s not an antiperspirant it does help keep sweat away for a little longer than when you go without. Overall I am really impressed with this new Lush invention and am eager for others to come out too, A First Snow one would be a Lush dream come true!

Buck’s Fizz Naked Body Conditioner from Lush

Buck's Fizz Naked Body Conditioner

Behind the scenes Lush are currently very busy with the creating of packageless ‘naked’ products. After being more than impressed by the likes of the Twilight and Snow Fairy naked shower gels, I couldn’t wait to try out the other formats of naked products that Lush currently have on offer.

Seeing as I got on so well with the brand new Buck’s Fizz body conditioner, I thought trying its ‘naked’ equivalent was a step in the right direction for my next, naked-Lush-product experience. To quickly round up on what a body conditioner is, they are basically body lotions that can be used in the bath/shower. They are perfect if you’re lazy (like me) and can never be bothered to moisturise after getting out of the bath/shower.

Buck’s Fizz shares its scent with the much loved Golden Wonder bath bomb which happens to be one of my favourite of the Winter Lush scents, rich with cognac, lime and Brazilian orange oils it has a boozy, citrus-fruit kick that leaves you feeling warm, content and snug as a bug.

All of Lush’s body conditioners are designed to make keeping your skin hydrated an effortless task. The Buck’s Fizz naked body conditioner is pretty much the same as the potted version (apart from the obvious). All of the naked body conditioners are similar consistency wise to Lush massage bars, although they are a lot more robust and not quite as easily melted.

To use them, all you need to do is work them into your skin just as you would a bar of soap. After massaging it into your body you are then meant to gently rinse yourself off followed by you then patting yourself dry with a towel. I advise that you do not go crazy with the rinsing off, leaving a small amount of it on is the same as leaving a body lotion on. When I have used just enough of it to do my whole body, I find it soaks into your skin very quickly leaving it looking and feeling healthy, hydrated and luxurious.

A very small amount of the Buck’s Fizz naked body conditioner goes a very long way and although storing the naked body conditioners is a little difficult due to it being packageless, it not being in a pot also has its practical as well as ethical advantages. Especially if you’re like me and have bad hands (therefore not being able to open lids easily).

To store my naked body conditioners, I keep them in an open Lush tin, left out of the water stream (if used in the shower) I find keeping it perched in one of the tins is the best way to make it last, letting it dry in between uses is key to making sure you get the most you can out of it.

Overall I am very impressed with the Buck’s Fizz naked body conditioner, I didn’t really get the whole idea of the naked products at first but with every one I try I am growing more and more fond of them. Yes, they do require a little bit more effort to store them but when you think of the positive impact packageless products are having on the world I feel it’s worth it. They are so much easier to just grab and use in a rush too, no tricky lid fiddling makes me a very happy lushie!

Christmas Cracker Bubble Bar from Lush

Christmas Cracker Bubble Bar

The Christmas Cracker Bubble Bar is probably the bubble bar I was the most excited about from Lush’s 2017 Christmas line. At the showcase this year, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to make one of these. Prior to this I had never made any Lush products myself so it was a dream come true. Before the bubble mix is left to set it feels just like kinetic sand.

I loved every step of making this bubble bar, working the bubble bar mix in my hands was so relaxing, pressing it into its mold making sure the pink doesn’t go over the line and of course adding the popping candy. It really was a fantastic experience, if I worked in the Lush factory I’d want to be in the bubble bar team for sure!

Christmas Cracker’s scent is almost identical, if not the same to this year’s other popular new release the Cheer Up Buttercup bath bomb, I make it no secret that I love the citrusy products the most, I was therefore super happy to learn that the Christmas Cracker had the same zingy and energy boosting ingredients that Cheer Up Buttercup has, lemon, lime and neroli oil.

Pairing it with a fruity product such as the Blackberry bath bomb would make for an excellent Lush-bath-cocktail.

You can get 3 very generously bubbled bubble baths out of just the one Christmas Cracker, I suspect it could be stretched over more than 3 baths if you wanted it to, I haven’t tried anymore than 3 uses though as I’m spoilt and always over indulge. The mix of the pink and yellow creates the most beautiful and bright orange bath water and of course lots of fluffy white bubbles! sitting back in a Christmas Cracker bubble bath leaves you feeling elated and refreshed.

As I mentioned above, the Christmas Cracker bubble bar has popping candy hidden in the inside of it. When I very first used this bubble bar I had completely forgotten about the popping candy within it. There is quite a delayed reaction to the popping candy and the water. I was sat back, submerged by the cheery bubbles for a good few minutes before the popping candy surprised me with its unignorable presence.

As always popping candy makes for a very entertaining bath, once it starts to react with the water it crackles away for a good 5 or so minutes. I have paired Christmas Cracker with the Dragon’s Egg bath bomb which is also jam packed with popping candy, it’s like having your own mini firework display in the bath tub.

What really stood out for me with the Christmas Cracker bubble bar was how hydrated it left my skin, the scent also stayed with me for the best part of the day after using it too. I will definitely be stocking up on this bubble bar before Winter is through. Lush have made some amazing additions to their bubble bar family this year, it’s made me very excited for whatever they have planned for us next!
