Mum in a Spin Bubble Spinner from Lush

Mum In A Spin Bubble Spinner

The Mum in a Spin Bubble Spinner is yet another brand new release from Lush’s Mother’s Day line. Packed with a long list of relaxing ingredients including both lavender and tonka absolute, it’s a must try product for all, not just mum’s. When Lush first released the bubble bar equivalent of a fidget spinner I honestly had no idea what a fidget spinner was.

I have since learnt that a fidget spinner is a small toy comprising of two or three prongs arranged around a central bearing. They are designed to be spun by the fingers as a means of improving concentration and a reliever of stress.

Although the bubble bar equivalents of a fidget spinner do not work in quite the same way, (the water from the tap is what essentially makes the bubble spinner spin) I can see why they are so popular. Getting in on the fidget spinner craze is a very clever move on Lush’s part, their original creation of a Bubble Spinner sold very well which is why we have now been presented with a brand new bubble spinner product, the Mum in a Spin.

Mum in a Spin is a reusable bubble bar, much like the first bubble spinner that Lush created it has a wooden pin in its middle. This allows the bubble bar part of it to spin as the tap water hits it just like a water mill. It has 3 spokes, two of them are decorated with the letter ‘M’ and the third with a love heart spelling out Mum/Mom.

Reusable bubble bars are slightly different to the normal bubble bars, you don’t have to break a reusable bubble bar up to use it, you simply run it under the tap to create bubbles. Once you have the desired amount of bubbles you then put it somewhere it can dry off, ready for the next time you want to use it.

As Mum in a Spin is submerged under running tap water, its scent fills the room. It shares its scent with the much loved Twilight bath bomb, making it the perfect night-time-bath treat. As the bubble bar is run under the tap copious amounts of bubbles begin to form, the water also becomes a stunningly bright pink. Overflowing with ingredients that have been carefully put together to help you wind down, it didn’t take very long for me to feel the stresses of the day melting away as I let myself lay back underneath the blanket of fluffy white, Twilight scented bubbles.

Sometimes I find that the reusable bubble bars don’t create quite as many bubbles as the ordinary bubble bars do, I found that with Mum in a spin this wasn’t the case at all. You can get 3 very generously bubbled bubble baths out of just the one Mum in a Spin. Another trait that reusable bubble bars tend to have is that they don’t create as vividly colourful water as their ordinary counterparts, this wasn’t the case for Mum in a Spin either, I was very happy to be bathing in such a beautiful and bold shade of pink water.

Another thing that impressed me about the Mum in a Spin bubble spinner was that its scent lasted throughout the whole bath, it also lasted on my skin once I was out of the bath too. There is nothing better than stepping out of a Mum in a Spin bubble bath followed by slathering yourself up with Sleepy body lotion.

I know some people are eager for Lush to start creating new scents as they’re growing bored of the same scents coming back time and time again. There is however something quite special about revisiting much loved scents through a different product format, I don’t think I could ever get bored of the Twilight scent. Overall I am very impressed with the Mum in a Spin bubble spinner, it ticks every box for what I like in a bubble bar. I will therefore be stocking up on them before 2018’s Mother’s Day period is through.

Madame President Bath Bomb from Lush

Madame President Bath Bomb

The Madame President Bath Bomb was the product from Lush’s 2018 Mother’s Day line that I was first drawn to. It has vibrant and bold colours, one half of it is sky blue and the other a glorious hot pink. I also couldn’t help but ‘ooo!’ at the 4 brilliant-white-stars that are decorated on its blue half. To look at, it reminds me ever so slightly of the latest version of the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb.

It wasn’t until I had the Madame President bath bomb in my hands that I realised the pink side of it was decorated with one, large gold star too. Discovering this made the bath artist in me just as nervous to use it as I was excited. I couldn’t wait to see what it did once placed in the bath water, I knew that it was of course going to be a really good show but I didn’t know what side to put in the water first? – a struggle I am sure a lot of Lushie’s have had with this bath bomb, especially if they like to take photos and not miss any bath art opportunities like me!

Just to clarify the stars in the Madame President bath bomb are not bath melts like the ones found in the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb. Which I guess could be a good or bad thing depending on how much you like star shaped, bath melts in your bath bombs… The similarities of the Madame President and Shoot for the Stars bath bombs are purely only decorational. All they share is a similar, star inspired design.

At first Madame Presidents scent really confused me. There were elements to it that I loved but also elements to it that I couldn’t quite work out. Once I had taken it away from all of the other Mother’s Day products it was a lot easier on my nose. The Madame President bath bomb is definitely one of those Lush products you need to sniff on its own before you decide if you like it or not.

Adding to that, even once I had the Madame President bath bomb on its own I still wasn’t sure if I liked its scent. It’s a brand new to me Lush-scent and quite different to what we are all used to from Lush. It’s sweet and sour like the Plum Rain shower gel but at the same time it’s also bitter like the Frozen bath bomb. The grapefruit in Madame President is probably the most prominent ingredient in it which is why it does have such a bitter-sweet odour. It’s a very unique, fruity Lush scent to say the least.

There are many Lush scents that I haven’t been sure upon at first, a good example of this would be the Intergalactic bath bomb. It wasn’t until I tried it that I realised how good it actually was, over time it has gone from a product I wasn’t very keen on at all to my most used bath bomb. This is why I always make sure I try a Lush product before I reach my final verdict on it. I am pleased to announce that Madame President was another product that followed in the footsteps of the Intergalactic bath bomb, I now really quite enjoy its scent, that and the beautiful bath art it creates!

The bath art that Madame President creates is remarkable, it is right up there with the,  The Experimenter bath bomb colour and pattern wise. My images in this post do not do the Madame Presidents bath bomb any justice at all, I recommend you have a look on Instagram and check out the hashtag #MadamePresidentBathBomb There are so many beautiful examples of how visually pleasing the Madame President bath bomb can be on there.

Once the Madame President bath bomb has fully dissolved you are left with dazzlingly-gorgeous, purple water decorated with a light sprinkling of golden shimmer. It creates one of those baths you never, ever want to get out of. Over all I am very impressed with the Madame President bath bomb, it went from a product I wasn’t at all sure about to one I adore in a flash. Please don’t let its initial, strange scent put you off, try it, you may very well grow to love it in the same way that I did.

Heart of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt from Lush

Heart of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt

The very first thing I noticed about the Heart of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt had to be its rather long name. For the purpose of this review and to save me from losing my mind, I will furthermore refer to it as just the ‘Heart’. It’s a beautiful name but also a bit of a nightmare at the same time. I don’t think Lush have ever had such a complicated named product.

There’s something about its names length that sets my anxiety off, laughable I know but I just keep thinking ‘there needs to be a comma somewhere?!!’. It’s like a friend who has a double barreled first, middle and last name, quite a mouthful. Moving swiftly back on to an actual review on the product itself, here is the brand new bubble bar and bath melt brought out by Lush, as a part of their 2018 Valentine line…

The Heart bubble bar melt is a reasonably sized bubble bar topped with a light coating of cocoa butter (the melt). It’s big enough to sit snuggly in my hand. To look at it really reminds me of carrot cake, the cocoa butter obviously being the icing. Above is a photograph of a crate of them in my local store, they all have a light dusting of golden lustre, by the time I however got mine home most of my lustre had fallen off as you can see from the photograph below.

The Heart bubble bar melt shares its scent with the Two Hearts Beating as One bath melt that was on sale from Lush this time, last year.  It has a floral-sweet fragrance; Scent wise the ylang ylang, bergamot and rose oils are probably the most noticeable of its ingredients. All of this products ingredients blend perfectly together, if romance had its own scent, I think the Heart bubble bar melts fragrance would be it!

I can get 2 generously bubbled baths out of just the one bubble bar melt. I imagine you could get more than 2 baths out of it if you really wanted, I do feel anything more than 2 wouldn’t give you an experience that shows its true potential though.

Although I find this products bubble-potential a huge selling point, (after all, it is part bubble bar) I find that because of the melt part of the bubble bar, the bubbles don’t hang around as long as I am used to with Lush bubble bars. Within 10 minutes all you are left with is orange water, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing but is something I have noticed.

Unlike the bubbles, this products scent stays with you throughout your entire bath, its scent does weaken ever so slightly but it is still present until the last drop of water goes down the plug hole. Considering the Heart is both bubble bar and bath melt, I expected the water to be soft and super hydrating on my skin. By all means it wasn’t at all drying, I just expected it to be slightly more moisturising than it was.

I really hate writing anything negative in my Lush-product-reviews but I have and always will be honest in them. If I declared my undying love for every single Lush product I’d clearly be lying, you simply can’t love everything. I do not dislike this bubble bar melt, it just hasn’t got me all excited in quite the same way as some of the other new Valentine’s products have. I’d have really liked to have seen a bath bomb in this scent, one that resembles a Roller or Over and Over would be a dream come true! Maybe Lush will make one next year… *fingers crossed*.
