Pink Flamingo Reusable Bubble Bar from Lush

To look at, the Pink Flamingo Reusable Bubble Bar is pretty much my dream product as I LOVE flamingos. My house is decorated heavily with them. Why? because they make me happy, what could be cooler than a big pink bird?!

The Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar was first introduced to the public on Lush Oxford Street’s opening day back on the 24th of April 2015. When I very first see it splashed all over Instagram I couldn’t help but be beside myself with excitement about getting hold of one.

Most of Lush’s reusable bubble bars are on sticks. For me, this makes using them a lot easier as all I need to do is hold it by the stick while letting the bubble bar bit go under the running tap. (I’ve explained in almost every one of my bubble bar reviews previous to this, how the bubble bar works etc. I have also gone into detail on how I have to use a sieve for the ordinary bubble bars as I don’t have a dual-temperature tap). This reason alone gives the stick based reusable bubble bars an advantage (in my house anyway!)

I however often find that Lush’s reusable bubble bars when compared to Lush’s standard bubble bars such as Pop in the Bath aren’t as good when used. I find that the reusable bubble bars don’t produce as many bubbles and I also find that the water colour they create is never as bright or bold in comparison unless you use almost most of the product which means it isn’t a reusable product at all. In spite of this, I was still very eager to try the Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar as Lush have proved me wrong on so many previous occasions.

Pink Flamingo is scented just how I had imagined. It has a very gentle citrus scent, one that reminds me of a fruity cocktail, what makes this bubble bars scent so unique from every other Lush product is its use of the bergamot and ylang ylang oils. Together they both give off a subtle fruity fragrance and appear to counteract each other somewhat. The scent although softened down by this clever mix of ingredients, is still very noticeable yet, not too in your face. It is the perfect summer scent that leaves you feeling uplifted and stress free.

At the start of this bubble bar review I predicted how the Pink Flamingo would perform in the bath. Unfortunately I was actually right for once, well.. Half right any way. The ordinary bubble bars run rings around the reusable ones performance wise. With Pink Flamingo I did however manage to get 2 more-than-adequately bubbled bubble baths out of just the one bar, it just took a little longer than I am used to.

Naturally with a reusable bubble bar I’d expect copious amounts of uses (so more than 2) but when you compare Pink Flamingo to the likes of the smaller bubble bars such as Yuzu and Cocoa or Granny Takes A Dip, it’s actually not that much different and is probably one of the better reusable bubble bars that Lush have released.

It takes a lot longer for the bubbles to emerge with this reusable bubble bar, though this is probably more of a reflection of my poor levels of patience than a reflection of the bubble bar itself. Even though the bubbles are slow to materialise the scent instantaneously fills my bathroom with a delicate citrus fragrance while at the same time it slowly turns the water underneath the thin-bubble-blanket a very bright, shade of pink.

Although I am a little disappointed that I could only get 2 baths out of the one Pink Flamingo it was a lot better than I had expected when comparing it to other reusable Lush products such as the Santasaurus. The only other thing that I feel is worth a mention is that the Pink Flamingo didn’t create particularly moisturising bath water for my skin to enjoy. Again I find this with all of the reusable bubble bars that I have tried so far so it wasn’t a very unexpected surprise.

With all of this in mind I have stored the Flamingo reusable bubble bar in the novelty-product-collection section of my brain. It was a lot better than I had expected off of a reusable product but hasn’t quite made it to my list of top 10 bubble bars. It is however a very beautifully designed product that never fails to catch people’s attention!

The Olive Branch Shower Gel from Lush

For the longest time I didn’t give any attention to the The Olive Branch Shower Gel at all. Stupidly I just turned my nose up without even giving it a sniff, I see the word Olive and that was that. It wasn’t until I used the Lava Lamp bath bomb that I realised I had a soft spot for the products with orange flower absolute in.

Back when Lava Lamp was very first released (2015) it was an Oxford Street exclusive, after a few weeks it was unfortunately discontinued as it needed reformulating and I was heart broken. I went on a Lush mission and searched for alternative Lush products that also contained orange flower absolute. The first product that came up on the Lush website was the Pop In The Bath bubble bar. I quickly fell in love with Pop In The Bath’s scent, it’s not the same as the Lava Lamp bath bomb but it has a beautiful, delicate citrus scent that always leaves me wanting more.

The Olive Branch shower gel shares its scent with the Pop In The Bath bubble bar, as soon as I found this out I grabbed a bottle and I am now never without one.

Another thing that puts people off of the Olive Branch shower gel is the fact its ingredients separate in the bottle, this is not a sign of it going off, it’s just the olive oil in it collecting up at the top of the bottle, it’s simple science, all you have to do is give it a quick shake before use and it’s as good as new.

Once shaken the Olive Branch shower gel is a pastel orange colour, consistency wise the gel is quite runny, at first this annoyed me slightly but after I tried it a few times I realised that a little of it went a long way and that it lathered up a lot quicker than any other Lush shower gel that I have tried.

The olive oil in this shower gel is a real treat for your skin, the inclusion of it is why the shower gel is so watery. I can never get enough of it in the shower, especially in the Summer, it is perfect for this time of year. As described on Lush’s website using it really does make you feel like you’re chilling out and relaxing in the Mediterranean sunshine.

The Olive Branch shower gel went from being a product I never gave much thought on, to one of my all time favourites from first use. It works fantastically well as a shampoo too, I have really fine hair and sometimes conditioning it is a lost cause as it just makes it heavy and greasy straight away. My hair always washes great when I use The Olive Branch as a shampoo, at the same time as cleansing my hair it also keeps it well hydrated and conditioned. There’s no need for a conditioner and my hair looks and feels fabulous. The same goes for my skin when I use it just as a shower gel.

The Olive Branch is one of my all time favourite Lush scents, I have collected many different products that share its scent since first falling in love with it in 2015. I have the body lotion, the solid perfume and the, The Christmas Penguin bubble bar just to name a few.

The moral of the story is don’t let a products name put you off of even giving it a sniff, you could be pleasantly surprised!

Sex Bomb Bath Bomb from Lush

Lush’s Sex Bomb Bath Bomb is quite the eye catcher, it is mostly pink but has a purple tie-dye effect on its upper half. One rice paper flower also takes pride of place on its top, giving the Sex Bomb bath bomb its own crown.

I actually discovered at the 2016 Lush Showcase that the rice paper flower that Lush use in the Sex Bomb is in fact edible. Myself and my friend Lizzi both tried one, lets just say they’re better off used in the bath…

The main ingredients that stand out to me in the Sex Bomb bath bomb are jasmine and ylang ylang. Jasmine has been used for centuries as a natural aphrodisiac which I guess is why this bath bomb got its sexy name. The ylang ylang that is also used in Sex Bomb is very uplifting, it makes Sex Bomb an ideal product choice if you’re feeling stressed or down in the dumps.

I’d describe the Sex Bomb’s scent as very heady, it’s a floral fragrance with quite a musky undertone. I find its scent calming, sensual and soothing.

Much like the Blackberry and Avobath bath bomb, Sex Bomb is quite a fast fizzer. I know some people see this as a negative but for me it’s not a negative, sometimes I just want to get on with my bath, not all bath bombs have to create pretty patterns and works of art, sometimes all you need is a bath and those carefully selected essential oils.

A Sex Bomb bath is a real treat for all of your senses, it turns your water into a bright and gorgeous shade of pink, pink is my favourite colour and I always feel ridiculously happy to be bathing in pink water, especially when it smells as good as the Sex Bomb does!

What pleases me the most is that its scent (once you’re out of the bath) stays with you for the rest of the day.

The last time I used a Sex Bomb was actually last night as I wanted a fresh perspective on it before I reviewed it, at the point of writing this I can still smell it on my skin almost 24 hours later. The fragrance at this point is much more subtle and I actually prefer the scent once it has gentled down somewhat.

I very much enjoy using the Sex Bomb bath bomb, it however isn’t one of my favourites. I wouldn’t be particularly bothered if Lush ever discontinued it to make way for another product. I have of course said this about a bath bomb before and regretted it bitterly once it had been given the sack at a later date.

The only negative thing I’d say about Sex Bomb isn’t actually that much of a negative, it’s more of a funny story. It’s in regards to the rice paper flower, the very first time I ever used a Sex Bomb bath bomb I thought I was getting attacked by jellyfish that had been living in my bathrooms water pipes.

I obviously now know that it was just the rice paper flower separating itself as the bath bomb dissolved, the way it looks once it has got wet is just like a Jellyfish, my imagination has always been quite a challenge… Makes for very interesting bath times though! 😉
