Tunnel of Love Soap from Lush

Tunnel of Love Soap

I rarely buy Lush soaps, it’s not because I dislike them I just simply prefer using the bubble bars and bath bombs. When I however set eyes on the Tunnel of Love Soap it was love at first sight. Above is a photograph of a slice of the soap and below is a photograph of it pre cut. The below image is how they arrive in to store, it is then up to the store staff to cut it into smaller pieces, ready to sell.

The soap in all of its glory is truly beautiful, I couldn’t stop staring at it when I was by the soap counter in Lush Oxford Street. In all honesty I feel for the store staff, I would feel like the worst person on the planet if I was asked to chop up this huge lump of soap. It’s not just a sight for sore eyes, it’s a work of art!

The Tunnel of Love Soap has a long list of natural ingredients that reflect the Valentine’s period perfectly. It contains both sweet wild orange and lime oil making it have an almost identical scent to the Lush Winter bath bomb, Never Mind the Ballistics. The addition of rose water in it is what gives the Tunnel of Love it’s valentine’s twist.

Its scent is bright and sweet, the orange oil is the most dominant ingredient recognised by my nose, the rose water is next and it rounds the citrus-sweetness of the orange oil off perfectly, giving the Tunnel of Love a more subtle, citrus-scent which is why I feel I like it so very much.

There aren’t many Lush soaps that lather up as quickly as the Tunnel of Love soap, it is one of the best Valentine’s soaps I have used to date, leaving the likes of Roses All the Way and Love You, Love You Lots soap in the shadows. I like all of the Valentine’s Day soaps from the past but there’s just something a little bit more special about the Tunnel of Love soap. It’s so much more creamier than any other floral soap I have used before now.

Its scent although subtle, stays on your skin a good few hours after using it. Although in lather it is quite a creamy soap, it doesn’t leave your skin as soft and hydrated as the naked shower cream from this year (Tender is the Night) does. I however wouldn’t expect this to be the case as it’s rare for a soap to not dry my skin out a little. Out of all of the Valentine’s soaps I have used so far, Tunnel of Love is undeniably the best yet. I’d definitely recommend grabbing a bar before Valentine’s day 2018 has been and gone.

Black Rose Naked Lip Scrub from Lush

Black Rose Naked Lip Scrub

One of the very first products that I ever got from Lush was a pot of lip scrub, from the very first use I was hooked. Previous to this I had never used an exfoliator for my lips that worked better. I now only use Lush lip scrubs. Before the release of the Black Rose Naked Lip Scrub, Lush’s lip scrubs had always been sold in a glass 25g pot. Lush are however striving to change the cosmetic industry by creating packageless ‘naked’ products. Enter Lush’s NEW naked lip scrubs.

The main ingredient in all of Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. I was blown away that a product with such a basic ingredient list worked so much better than any other expensive exfoliators that I had tried and hated. Caster sugar is the perfect ingredient for gentle yet effective exfoliation. Making a naked and solid version of their much loved potted lip scrubs is quite literally the best idea Lush have ever had.

The potted lip scrubs work like a dream but since trying the naked versions I doubt i’ll be buying the potted versions ever again. Lush have managed to improve what I already deemed as perfect, I honestly raved about the potted lip scrubs but they are nothing compared to the new naked versions. Black Rose is from the Yummy Yummy Yummy scent family and therefore shares its scent with the much loved Roller bath bomb. It has a beautiful and light fruity scent and one that I don’t mind using on my lips at all.

The difference between the naked and potted lip scrubs apart from the obvious is that the naked lip scrubs are solid, when I have been asked to describe how the new naked lip scrub feels I always compare it to a sugar cube.

With the lip scrub being solid you can apply so much more pressure on your lips during application, it makes buffing away the dry bits of skin so much easier than it was before. If you have long nails like me then you’ll be pleased to know that there is also no more trouble fishing the product out of the pot. In the photo above I have already used the lip scrub 6 times. A little goes more than a long way and it works quickly and with minimum effort.

All you have to do is rub it on your lips in a similar way you would put lipstick on. Once you feel satisfied you then just wipe the sugar away to reveal smooth and lovely looking lips, some even just lick it off! it’s perfectly safe to do so too.

Another thing I noticed is how moisturising the Black Rose lip scrub was I wasn’t expecting that at all, especially considering that it’s a solid product. I am over the moon with the Black Rose naked lip scrub, I don’t think I have ever been more satisfied in a product before. I am so excited to try and review the others too.

Brightside Solid Perfume from Lush

Brightside Solid PerfumeBack in May the Lush Kitchen team put a list together of Lush’s most popular scents. We (the Lush community) then had to pick our ultimate top 5 scents from that scent list. With this list the Lush Kitchen had promised to make several never-before-been-released products with those chosen top 5 scents.

I was really happy but not surprised to see that the Brightside scent had been chosen as one of the 5. Brightside is a beautiful scent family and one that I wish Lush had expanded on, with other products long before now. Alongside a Brightside body lotion the Lush Kitchen also decided to release a Brightside Solid Perfume.

As soon as my Brightside body lotion and Brightside solid perfume arrived I squealed with delight. Previous to this I believe there had only ever been two other Brightside scented products, the bubble bar and the Sunrise soap. The Bubble Bar was one of my very first Lush products so its scent will always be one I think fondly of. As soon as you take off the Brightside solid perfumes lid you can see and smell exactly why Lush describe it as the ‘antidote to gloomy days.’ The bergamot, tangerine and mandarin oils within it all work together to make one of Lush’s most uplifting fragrances.

Brightside SP 2

Lush’s solid perfumes consistency visually resembles Vaseline, they are however not as soft and easily manipulated to the touch as Vaseline is. I’d describe them as more like a cooled, solid candle wax. The warmth of your finger heats up just enough of the product to put on your wrists and neck. I like its consistency as it stops you from using too much by accident. A downside to the solid perfumes is that I can’t spritz a little on my clothes or hair.

Applying the Brightside solid perfume is very easy, even when you’re on the go. It can slip in your pocket or any hand bag or purse ready for when you need it. Much like the Brightside bubble bar and body lotion I had such high expectations of this solid perfume. Unfortunately I found that even when I applied a more than generous amount to my wrist its scent faded within 10 minutes. I have heard this is very common with products that are applied to the skin when they have bergamot, tangerine or mandarin oil in though.

Maybe one day Lush will create a liquid perfume in the Brightside scent, I think being able to spray a little on your clothes and hair would help carry the scent for longer. It appears that skin just seems to soak Brightside solid perfume up leaving no trace of it at all in just a few minutes. I do however feel that the solid perfume while in the tin, was a perfect match scent wise to the much loved Brightside bubble bar, Lush did well with this product in that aspect.
