Pumpkin Patch Bath Bomb from Lush

The Pumpkin Patch Bath Bomb is a brand-new product that (at the time of writing this review) was only available as an exclusive item in October 2023’s Lush Kitchen Subscription Box. Whether or not it will be available in the future elsewhere is a question you’ll have to ask Lush.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb is an orange pumpkin that has been designed to look like the typical carved-Halloween-pumpkin but with a pirate twist, one eye is covered by a patch. Its name, the fact it is a pumpkin, and the eye patch are a (typical of Lush) very clever pun.

This year’s Halloween line is incredible, I could see this bath bomb selling extremely well alongside all of the other 2023 Halloween stock.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb contains grapefruit oil, juniper berry oil, lime oil and organic pumpkin seed oil and shares its scent with several best-selling Halloween Lush products such as the Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar and 2 products that are available from this year’s Halloween line (2023) the Sparkly Pumpkin shower slime and Pumpkin Crumble bubble bar.

Before now, the Sparkly Pumpkin Lush-scent-family had only ever featured in a soap and body spray format (as well as the above-mentioned bubble bar and shower slimes) so getting it in a bath bomb format was a dream come true for some.

To look at, the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb has a very similar finish to the likes of the Gold Rabbit, Rose Gold, Partridge in a Pear Tree, and Lucky Tiger bath bombs, covered in an orangey golden shimmer.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb’s scent is delicious. It has a slightly spicy element to it as well as a kick of citrus from the grapefruit oil. Each of the bath bomb’s ingredients mixes with each other perfectly, softening one aspect of it while strengthening another.

Although I do not drink anything with caffeine in, I have been told by someone who does, that the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb smells very similar to the spices used in a pumpkin spiced latte.

Pumpkin Patch is a good-sized bath bomb, it’s similar in size to the standard Lush bath bombs, fitting snuggly in my hand.

As soon as the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with a burst of bright orange foam.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb’s orangey golden shimmer also starts to glide into your bath water almost immediately too.

I know I say this in almost every bath bomb review but the photos in this review do the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb no justice at all.

Its bath art is very similar to the bath art created by both the Orange Pop and Christmas Sweater bath bomb. The orange and red swirls seem to go on forever.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb takes approximately 15 minutes to fully dissolve, leaving you with plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the pretty red and orange show that it puts on.

I found the bright orange waters left behind by the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb exceptionally hydrating and smooth to the touch. The amount of shimmer in it also left me mesmerised.

Its scent although subtle, can still be detected on your skin long after getting out of the bath. My skin was also still silky smooth for the whole rest of the next day too.

I adore the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb, why it wasn’t a part of the in-store Lush Halloween line is a mystery to me as it really makes for the perfect, pumpkin-spiced Halloween bath!

Punkin Pumpkin Bath Bomb from Lush

Punkin Pumpkin Bath Bomb

The 2019 Halloween range from Lush is one of their best Halloween line ups yet. Several spooky and very-much-loved Halloween products have made a re-appearance as well as 2 brand-new bath bombs; Mercury Retrograde and Punkin Pumpkin.

The Punkin Pumpkin is obviously the most in-your-face-Halloween out of the 2 and as its name suggests, it is a pumpkin-shaped bath bomb that is NOT to be confused with the Pumpkin bath bomb from previous years.

Punkin Pumpkin is quite a unique bath bomb to say the least, Lush have been crazy-clever and have managed to make this bath bombs eyes and mouth glow in the dark, just as if it was a real carved pumpkin with a lit candle inside! 😮

I’m a super geek who loves a day-time-bath. Bathing in the day means I get to take advantage of the natural lighting, it’s the perfect conditions for bath art photo opportunities. The only downside to this is that I never got to experience the glow-in-the-dark aspect of the Punkin Pumpkin while in the bath. 🙁

I did however shine a torch on it for a minute or two before turning the lights off just to see if it really did glow and GLOW IT DID! Although the glow wasn’t quite as bright as the Ghost in the Dark soap (which is available again this year) it did definitely glow.

Now to get on with the science behind this magical glowing product. The first question everyone asks when introduced to such a product is, ‘HOW?!!’ You’ll have to read on to find out…

The magic glowing ingredient in Punkin Pumpkin is luminescent zinc sulfide. I was going to do a whole paragraph on the ins-and-outs of it until I remembered how bad I am at Chemistry. Instead of embarrassing myself I have included a link that sends you directly  to Lush’s website where all of the ‘glowing’ information can be found *click here*.

Along side the luminescent zinc sulfide, Punkin Pumpkin also contains pumpkin powder and cinnamon-leaf, lime, orange and Sicilian-red-mandarin oils.

Its scent is very warming and a lot more limey than I had imagined prior to sniffing it. Smelling it now I want to say that it also has a slight peppery undertone to it. It’s not too in-your-face cinnamony either which is a bonus for some customers. I on the other hand would have liked it to have contained a bit more cinnamon as I can never get enough of cinnamon, especially at this time of year!

As soon as the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb touches the water a burst of orange and green erupts from it, spilling out into the bath while it floats on the waters-surface.

Size wise Punkin Pumpkin is actually quite a chunky bath bomb, I’d say that it is almost as thick as the likes of the larger Lush bubble bars such as the Brightside and The Comforter. With this in mind I was pleasantly surprised that the bath bomb floated the whole time it was in the bath.

Once the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb has fully dissolved it leaves your bath water a warm orange colour. The colour isn’t the only thing that makes a Punkin Pumpkin bath so wonderfully inviting either, the bath water is silky soft to the touch and just a 15 minute soak left my skin feeling much softer.

Once I was out of the bath I couldn’t help but notice how much brighter my skin appeared. As well as being brighter in appearance, it was also perfectly moisturised too.

Its fragrance although subtle, left me surprised as it remained on my skin for the best-part of the rest-of-the-day. Again in regards to its subtle scent, Punkin Pumpkin is definitely better suited to those customers who favour lighter more delicate fragrances.

Overall I am quite impressed with the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb, I’d have personally liked to have seen it with a slightly stronger scent though. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t share its scent with the aforementioned Pumpkin bath bomb too but that’s just me being super fussy! 😝 Regardless of this, I still believe Punkin Pumpkin to be an incredible new addition to the Lush Halloween, bath-bomb-family. 🎃

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar from Lush

Pumpkin Bubble Bar-2The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar is a product that never fails to make an appearance in Lush’s Halloween product line up. Year in, year out it comes back, ready and waiting to take on yet another Lush autumn. As its name suggests the Sparkly Pumpkin is a bright orange, pumpkin shaped bubble bar that has a generous coating of golden lustre with a single piece of cinnamon stick as its stalk. 

I think the first time I ever used Sparkly Pumpkin was back in 2015, it wasn’t a product that instantly stood out to me, visually I didn’t and still don’t find it the most eye catching of Lush products. Back then the only reason I originally gave it a chance was because it came in a gift set that my husband bought me.

Although the bubble bar doesn’t wow me as much as other Lush products do, I can still see that it has some amazing qualities and can also identify the reasons why it comes back to stores every autumn.

The Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar is relatively small, it fits snuggly in my ‘child-sized’ hand. I can see why some people are tempted to use the whole bubble bar for just one bath, I however use the one Sparkly Pumpkin over 2 baths without any compromise on quality or how many bubbles it creates.

Sparkly Pumpkin bubbles up very quickly, I recommend using it in a sieve as I find it is quite a crumbly bubble bar, many people don’t use a sieve for it though, some simply just crumble it in their hands under a running tap. I have tried both ways and because it is quite a soft product I’ve had the best results from the sieve, I find letting it just crumble doesn’t get the most out of it bubble wise, you tend to waste quite a bit, finding pieces of it at the bottom of your tub once you get in.

In regards to Sparkly Pumpkins scent, I expected it to be jam packed with all things pumpkin, it however isn’t. Strangely, the Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar actually contains juniper berry, lime and grapefruit oils. This unique blend of essential oils makes the Sparkly Pumpkins scent a woody and gentle citrus blend, I find a soak in a Sparkly Pumpkin bath leaves me feeling both soothed and uplifted. If you favour the products with a more subtle scent then Sparkly Pumpkin would be a great one for you.

I know some people want to run a mile when they see a shimmery Lush product but being honest as always, the sparkling products really aren’t that troublesome. I get a little tired of explaining this in all of my sparkly product reviews but as someone who once too feared anything glittery, I can’t help but mention it. I have been converted and now love a sparkly Lush product. The shimmer just rinses away, I always describe it as cosmetic shimmer, kind of like what you get in make-up such as some bronzers and highlighters.

A Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bath leaves your skin silky-smooth and well nourished. Its scent unfortunately doesn’t hang around on your skin for very long but it does last throughout the bath.

Sparkly Pumpkin isn’t one of my favourite bubble bars purely because I find it a little boring, I do however like to pair it with a bath bomb. Last year my favourite Lush cocktail that contained Sparkly Pumpkin was it, mixed with the Pumpkin bath bomb. This year the Christmas Sweater bath bomb was however introduced to the winter line and  that works with Sparkly Pumpkin perfectly too.
