Sticky Dates Shower Gel from Lush

The Sticky Dates Shower Gel first became available to buy in April 2022 and was originally a part of Lush’s small but impressive, limited-edition Eid line. It proved very popular during the short space of time that it was available, prompting Lush to carry on selling it once Eid was over.

Whether it is now a permanent product, or just around until the summer products are retired for the year, has yet to be confirmed. There has however been rumours of a body spray equivalent so I should imagine the shower gel isn’t going away any time soon.

I’m not shy in saying that Lush’s shower gel selection has been in desperate need of new life since it discontinued the likes of The ComforterYuzu and Cocoa and Plum Rain shower cream and gels. The addition of the Sticky Dates shower gel really has drastically improved their all-year-round shower gel line.

The Sticky Dates shower gel looks just like chocolate sauce, it has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency and lathers up effortlessly too. Its ingredient list includes some of the following: Organic date syrup, vanilla pod infusion, sunflower lecithin, fresh orange juice, carob resinoid, benzoin resinoid and sandalwood oil.

Its scent is DELICIOUS, it smells just like a hot and gooey sticky toffee pudding with a generous scoop or 2 of vanilla ice cream. Its scent alone is what is going to catapult this shower gel into becoming Lush’s next bestselling product. Mark my words, it’s a legendary shower gel that you really need to try.

One of the things I really love about Lush is the thought that goes into each and every individual Lush product. Lush never just throw random ingredients together. During Eid, dates are quite often the first food to be eaten when breaking fast. Hence the Sticky Dates shower gel starting its life as a member of their Eid product line.

When it comes down to their new-release shower gels, Lush have really outdone themselves this year. As I said earlier on in this review, Lush’s shower gel selection has been in desperate need of new life and 2022 has been a brilliant year for Lush shower gel so far. Customers have demanded new shower gels and Lush have well and truly understood the assignment with its last few releases. They just keep getting better and better. I thought the Purple Carrots shower gel was top tier, but Sticky Dates is just as good if not better.

The Sticky Dates shower gel lathers up easily and despite its name isn’t at all sticky (so don’t be put off of trying it based on its name alone). A small amount of the Sticky Dates shower gel goes a very long way. Make sure you tell this to anyone you share a shower with. My husband liked it so much almost half of the bottle was gone in a week, I told him off for being wasteful. It’s good stuff but you don’t need to use very much to get the best out of it.

Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its scent engulfs you, filling your bathroom with its delightful sticky toffee fragrance. With 25% of the shower gel being made of date syrup, it is incredibly soft on your skin too. It seems to lock in moisture just as well as a body lotion does. Overall, I cannot recommend the Sticky Dates shower gel enough and I am so glad that Lush have decided to keep it on their shelves for a little longer than what was originally planned.

Light the Night Bath Bomb from Lush

The Light the Night Bath Bomb is one of Lush’s very first, limited edition Eid inspired products. It first became available earlier this year (2022) and was exclusively available to purchase in the weeks leading up to Eid 2022.

As you can see from the photos that I have included in this review, the Light the Night bath bomb is shaped just like a shimmery gold and purple lantern. Weighing in at approximately 110g, the Light the Night bath bomb is a little bit bigger than the Ickle Baby Bot bath bomb, but not by much!

The Light the Night bath bomb contains jasmine and vanilla absolutes, alongside those are a generous helping of rose syrup, labdanum resinoid and pomegranate molasses too.

When I first see that the Light the Night bath bomb had jasmine in it, I was worried I wouldn’t like its fragrance. Out of all of the fresh ingredients that Lush use in their products I feel as if the ‘Marmite’ ingredient is jasmine.

Customers seem to either love or hate it. I am not a huge fan of the jasmine fragrance but can stomach it in most Lush products.

Luckily, I actually didn’t mind the scent of the Light the Night bath bomb, the 2 more dominant fragrances I get from it are the jasmine and vanilla, there seems to be just the right amount of vanilla to round off the heaviness of the jasmine I tend to not favour. Light the Nights scent is a fairly light, vanilla-rich fragrance.

Considering the smaller size of the Light the Night bath bomb I have to admit that I think it’s a little overpriced. I rarely mention price in my Lush reviews as they are subject to change so often but (at the time of writing this review) the Light the Night bath bomb is priced at £6 each. Over the last few years, I have been really worried that Lush are beginning to price themselves out and I feel that with Light the Night, they are doing just that.

Quality wise Lush products are the best out there, all of the ingredients that they use are ethically sourced and of the best quality too, this has always reflected in the products prices but with bath bombs being single use products I find myself feeling a little robbed if I am charged anything over £4.50 per item.

As soon as the Light the Night bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with an explosion of yellow, green and blue foam. It doesn’t take long for the bath bomb to start spinning around the water’s surface, creating peacock-like coloured bath art.

My Light the Night bath bomb took approximately 7 minutes to dissolve; it creates the most incredibly soft bath-water and I found that it left my skin feeling super hydrated and soft too. Its scent didn’t really last on my skin once I got out of the bath but it made a huge difference on how my skin felt.

There’s nothing better than silky soft feeling skin after a relaxing bath.

Overall, I enjoyed the Light the Night bath bomb a lot more than I expected, as I said earlier the jasmine ingredient seems to be either a clear hit or miss with customers and for this bath bomb it was very much a hit for me. I am really looking forward to seeing what other holidays Lush begin to honour with future product lines after this years small yet amazing Eid line!

Purple Carrots Shower Gel from Lush

The Purple Carrots Shower Gel was one of 5 products available in this month’s Kitchen box (April 2022). SPOILER ALERT, I wholeheartedly believe that it is the best shower gel Lush have released in a very long time. With Calacas shower gel being the exception, Purple Carrots is now my all-time favourite Lush shower gel. A bold statement indeed, but one I stand by.

As much as I like the What’s Up, Doc? shower gel from this year’s Easter line, I will never understand how it got made a part of the Easter line over the Purple Carrots shower gel. Both are amazing, Lush have really outdone themselves when it comes to their new shower gels this year BUT Purple Carrots has blown me away so much more than the latter has.

The Purple Carrots shower gel is, as its name suggests, purple. It’s a slightly lighter shade of purple than the Plum Rain shower gel and has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency.

The Purple Carrots shower gel contains a long list of ingredients. It has both purple carrot infusion and carrageenan extract, as well as the following essential oils; bergamot, buchu and Sicilian lemon. It actually shares its scent with several past products – best remembered in the likes of the Follow the White Rabbit bath bomb and the Bunch of Carrots reusable bubble bar.

The delicate yet refreshing scent of the Purple Carrots shower gel is very nostalgic to me as it reminds me of my paternal nan and grandads house when I was a little. It makes me feel safe and uplifted, it’s a simple but beautiful citrusy fragrance that I cannot get enough of.

As I said earlier, Lush have really outdone themselves this year when it comes down to their new-release shower gels, they just keep getting better. If Purple Carrots doesn’t become a mainline product in the not-so-distant future, Lush are making a big mistake. Choosing not to release the Purple Carrots shower gel properly, would be as big of a mistake from Lush as when they decided to cut off all their customers with their ‘deletion’ of social media.

It is a crime to let the Purple Carrots shower gel be just a one-off exclusive to April 2022’s Lush Kitchen Subscription box. If Lush were still on social media I’d be tagging and messaging them every day, bugging them to bring it out as a new shower gel in their permanent all-year-round line.

As I said earlier, the Purple Carrots shower gels consistency is deliciously thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up easily and a small amount goes a very long way. Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its scent engulfs you, filling your bathroom with its gorgeously refreshing scent.

The Purple Carrots shower gel leaves my skin looking and feeling clean, refreshed, soft and well moisturised. After I’ve used it, the scent lasts on my skin for a good few hours. It’s also really hydrating too. It seems to lock in moisture just as well as a body lotion does. Overall, I cannot recommend the Purple Carrots shower gel more, I am extremely bitter to only have one bottle of it. Lush, please, please bring it out properly!
