Tarantula Shower Jelly from Lush

This year I am starting off my Halloween Lush-product-reviews with the Tarantula Shower Jelly. The Tarantula shower jelly is a brand-new, limited-edition, Halloween product that first became available in the UK at the end of August 2022.

Designed to look just like a tarantula, when news of its existence first leaked online, I wasn’t even sure if I was even going to buy the shower jelly. I am absolutely terrified of spiders due to an unforgettable experience with an African bird eating spider in my bedroom in Cyprus when I was just 5 years old.

I won’t go into detail as you’re here for my review of the shower jelly BUT I just wanted to explain that there was a real life, childhood experience behind my irrational fear of spiders… 😬

Despite my fear of the 8-legged-beast, I braved giving the Tarantula shower jelly a sniff in-store and after discovering it smelt absolutely delicious, I decided to take one home with me. I just have to keep reminding myself that it is not a real spider

The Tarantula shower jelly contains a long list of ingredients including cherry infusion, activated charcoal and some of the following essential oils; Davana, lime and almond.

As I said earlier, its scent is delicious, people have asked me to compare it with something and for me, it really reminds me of the drink, Dr Pepper but with hints of boozy, cherry amaretto too.

With Tarantula being a character shaped shower jelly, I was hesitant to use it in the same way as I would an ordinary pot-shaped shower jelly as unfortunately I find more often than not, that the character shaped jellies aren’t always as sturdy and robust as the normal pot-shaped ones.

As predicted, The Tarantula shower jelly did begin to fall apart after just one use even when I was gentle with it. However, I’ve used it 2 more times and although it is showing wear and tear, there’s still plenty more of it to go around yet.

There is no right or wrong way to use a shower jelly, I prefer to use mine in the same way as you would a bar of soap, whole. Some people however chop their shower jellies up using a few pieces at a time. – I used its 8 legs to my advantage, placing my fingers in-between them, this made it so much easier to grip it in the shower.

The Tarantula shower jelly lathers up quickly and creates a super creamy foam. A little goes a very long way and glides over your skin with ease. Its gorgeous cherry scent fills your bathroom as soon as you take its lid off BUT it’s not until the shower jelly is in use that its scent really comes alive. Mixed alongside the hot water and steam of the shower, its scent literally engulfs you in yummy cherry-ness!

At first its attention to detail (especially its made-to-look-hairy back and its 8 legs) made me feel uneasy but the biodegradable, holographic-rainbow-shimmer inside of it alongside its scent made it easy to fall in love with. After stepping out of the shower my skin is left feeling soft, clean, and fresh, it also appears somewhat brighter. It isn’t a hugely moisturising shower jelly but doesn’t leave me desperate to coat myself in body lotion after I have used it either.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed using the Tarantula shower jelly and I am glad that I didn’t let the fact it is spider-shaped put me off of buying it, I can’t wait to see if Lush create more products that share this shower jellies scent in the near future! 🍒

Glitch Shower Gel from Lush

The Glitch Shower Gel was first released as a part of Lush’s 2022 Father’s Day line. You may recognise its scent from a much-loved golden oldie Lush product the Avoshower shower gel. The Glitch shower gel is a revamped version of Avoshower and if I’m going to be honest, I actually much prefer it. We’ll get more into why a bit later…

This year Lush have released some amazing new shower gels and Glitch is up there with my favourites. Until we’ve seen this year’s Halloween and Christmas stock I can’t say for sure that it’s my favourite shower gel from 2022 but right now it’s in my top 3 for sure.

Unlike the Sticky Dates shower gel from this years Eid line, Glitch sadly wasn’t kept on once the Father’s Day line retired for the year, luckily I however managed to grab an extra 2 bottles before they had completely sold out.

The Glitch shower gel is a lovely and bright shade of green, it’s so bright it almost glows! It has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency – which is the complete opposite of the same-smelling, super-runny Avoshower shower gel. It is lovely and creamy and also lathers up effortlessly too. Its ingredient list includes some of the following: Lemon balm infusion, lemongrass oil, bergamot oil, fresh lemon and lime juices and carrageenan extract.

Another popular product that shares its scent with the Glitch shower gel is the Avobath bath bomb, both are perfect products to use if you’re in need of a boost, there’s nothing like using Glitch shower gel first thing in the morning.

Its scent is so incredibly refreshing, its citrus rich and full of zing. Just a quick whiff of it from the bottle is enough to give you a little boost of energy. Mark my words, it’s a legendary shower gel, if Lush don’t bring it back again I will be very disappointed.

When it comes down to their new-release shower gels, Lush have really outdone themselves this year. As I have said in my previous 2022 shower gel reviews, Lush’s shower gel selection was in desperate need of new life and 2022 has been a brilliant year for Lush shower gels. Customers have demanded new shower gels and Lush have pulled through. Glitch has left me so excited for the new shower gels set to arrive in Autumn. If they’re half as good as Glitch we’re going to be very happy customers.

The Glitch shower gel lathers up easily and is super-duper creamy. I recommend adding a little of the shower water to it once it’s in your hands just to get it at the perfect lathering consistency, it’s incredibly creamy, one of the creamiest I’ve had from Lush. Adding a little water to it in your hands will ensure that a small amount of the shower gel goes a very long way. Without that extra water it would be quite gloopy.

Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its awakening scent engulfs you, filling your bathroom with a ‘powerhouse of invigorating lemongrass, lemon balm tea and cleansing lime juice.’ Overall, I cannot recommend Glitch shower gel enough, it has certainly made any early mornings I face a lot easier to handle!

Sticky Dates Shower Gel from Lush

The Sticky Dates Shower Gel first became available to buy in April 2022 and was originally a part of Lush’s small but impressive, limited-edition Eid line. It proved very popular during the short space of time that it was available, prompting Lush to carry on selling it once Eid was over.

Whether it is now a permanent product, or just around until the summer products are retired for the year, has yet to be confirmed. There has however been rumours of a body spray equivalent so I should imagine the shower gel isn’t going away any time soon.

I’m not shy in saying that Lush’s shower gel selection has been in desperate need of new life since it discontinued the likes of The ComforterYuzu and Cocoa and Plum Rain shower cream and gels. The addition of the Sticky Dates shower gel really has drastically improved their all-year-round shower gel line.

The Sticky Dates shower gel looks just like chocolate sauce, it has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency and lathers up effortlessly too. Its ingredient list includes some of the following: Organic date syrup, vanilla pod infusion, sunflower lecithin, fresh orange juice, carob resinoid, benzoin resinoid and sandalwood oil.

Its scent is DELICIOUS, it smells just like a hot and gooey sticky toffee pudding with a generous scoop or 2 of vanilla ice cream. Its scent alone is what is going to catapult this shower gel into becoming Lush’s next bestselling product. Mark my words, it’s a legendary shower gel that you really need to try.

One of the things I really love about Lush is the thought that goes into each and every individual Lush product. Lush never just throw random ingredients together. During Eid, dates are quite often the first food to be eaten when breaking fast. Hence the Sticky Dates shower gel starting its life as a member of their Eid product line.

When it comes down to their new-release shower gels, Lush have really outdone themselves this year. As I said earlier on in this review, Lush’s shower gel selection has been in desperate need of new life and 2022 has been a brilliant year for Lush shower gel so far. Customers have demanded new shower gels and Lush have well and truly understood the assignment with its last few releases. They just keep getting better and better. I thought the Purple Carrots shower gel was top tier, but Sticky Dates is just as good if not better.

The Sticky Dates shower gel lathers up easily and despite its name isn’t at all sticky (so don’t be put off of trying it based on its name alone). A small amount of the Sticky Dates shower gel goes a very long way. Make sure you tell this to anyone you share a shower with. My husband liked it so much almost half of the bottle was gone in a week, I told him off for being wasteful. It’s good stuff but you don’t need to use very much to get the best out of it.

Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its scent engulfs you, filling your bathroom with its delightful sticky toffee fragrance. With 25% of the shower gel being made of date syrup, it is incredibly soft on your skin too. It seems to lock in moisture just as well as a body lotion does. Overall, I cannot recommend the Sticky Dates shower gel enough and I am so glad that Lush have decided to keep it on their shelves for a little longer than what was originally planned.
