I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas Bath Bomb from Lush

If you’ve spent your whole life looking for a star-spangled hippo to share a bath with then look no further as Lush are here to save the day!

The I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas Bath Bomb is brand new to this years (2020) Christmas line. It is inspired by a Christmas song of the same name that was released back in 1953. Up until the bath bombs release I actually hadn’t ever heard the song and had to look it up on YouTube, annoyingly it’s stupidly catchy… 😆

Like the Tick-Tock and Angels Delight bath bombs, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is another smaller bath bomb from this years Winter line. I can see why smaller sized bath bombs may not appeal to some customers but so far every bath bomb in this years line (big or small) has well and truly impressed me.

For the purpose of this review and to save both myself and you some time, I am now going to refer to the I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas bath bomb as just I Want a Hippo, Lush love to test my patience with super long names. I fear that if I continue to refer to it, by its full name I’ll never want to hear of or see a Hippopotamus ever again, star-spangled or not! ðŸ˜‚

I Want a Hippo shares its scent with the old school, Lush classic bath bomb, Space Girl. You will also recognise its scent from this years (2020) Halloween shower gel, Very Very Frightening. It’s a much loved scent within the Lush community and I’m so happy that Lush are finally using it in new products.

I have never been very good at describing scents but I am confident in describing I Want a Hippo’s fragrance as a soft, yet mouthwateringly moreish raspberry affair. Containing cold pressed raspberry seed, grapefruit and bergamot oils its scent is both refreshing and relaxing.

The light sprinkling of stars used to decorate the I Want a Hippo bath bomb make me think of the Jingle Spells and old style Northern Lights bath bombs, its colour however reminds me of the Blackberry bath bomb. I’m not sure if any of those bath bombs helped inspire the design of  the I Want a Hippo bath bomb but if you like any of them, I’m sure you’d enjoy I Want a Hippo too.

As soon as the I Want a Hippo bath bomb hits the water you a greeted with a gentle hiss of purple bubbles. Followed by gentle pops of the popping candy hidden within. The gold stars decorating the bath bomb slowly become loose scattering across the waters surface before dissolving.

The hidden popping candy continues to crackle away for a short while after the bath bomb has fully dissolved. The water it leaves behind is a beautiful shade of purple and feels like silk to touch. It isn’t as moisturising as I’m used to with Lush bath bombs but doesn’t dry my skin out or anything. A body lotion in its scent would however be very much appreciated, hint, hint Lush!

Overall I really enjoyed using the I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas bath bomb, it might not put on much of a show and is on the small side BUT its scent is delightful, I can still smell it on my skin hours after getting out of the bath. Well done Lush, this is yet another bath bomb I have to stock up on before the year is through… 🙈

Angels Delight Bath Bomb from Lush

If you’re like me and are not a huge fan of the Winter products that are in-your-face Christmas, the Angels Delight Bath Bomb would be a good choice for you.

It’s an eye-catching and bright hot pink bath bomb decorated with a yellow half-moon. Its easy-on-the-eye design reminds me ever so slightly of the old Shoot for the Stars bath bomb from Lush Christmas lines many years ago.

The Angels Delight bath bomb is the same size as the Butterball bath bomb so is on the smaller size. Throughout the years I have however learnt to never judge a bath bomb on its look and size alone.

After how impressed I was with another smaller bath bomb from this years Christmas range, the Tick-Tock bath bomb I couldn’t wait to see how Angels Delight performed in the bath.

Angels Delight has a sweet, citrus fruit fragrance. Containing both orange and tangerine oils it’s the perfect bath bomb if you’re in need of a Winter pick me up. Its scent is uplifting, refreshing and an energy boost all rolled into one.

It’s fragrance actually really reminds me of sunny holidays making it the perfect Winter escape. Perfect if you’re feeling the lockdown blues.

As soon as the Angels Delight bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with an explosion of pink, thick foam.

Even though Angels Delight is small, it’s a relatively slow fizzer. With it being so small I was expecting a very small amount of bath art BUT as it spins, floating around the waters surface, pinks, maroons, yellows and oranges spindles out of it creating bright and beautiful swirling patterns galore.

My photographs in this review do the Angels Delight bath bomb no justice at all. I’m still a little in shock at how much bath art this tiny bath bomb created. It puts some of the larger bath bombs to shame.

The saying that all good things come in small packages has never been a more accurate statement!

Once the Angels Delight bath bomb is fully dissolved the water left behind is a bright, bright orange. I couldn’t help but take a photo of it, it really is like a bath full of liquid sun shine.

The water left behind is silky smooth and super hydrating. Once out of the bath my dry Winter skin was noticeably brighter and most of its dryness had gone. Its uplifting scent also remained on my skin for the best part of the rest of the day too.

Overall I am really impressed with the Angels Delight bath bomb, please don’t let its smaller size trick you into thinking it wouldn’t be as good as some of the bigger ones Lush have on offer.

I will most certainly be grabbing a few more of these before the Christmas stock retires at the end of the year!

Beauty Sleep Face and Body Mask from Lush

The Beauty Sleep Face and Body Mask is the latest Lush product to take the Lush world by storm and is yet another extension to Lush’s best selling Sleepy range. Set to fly off of the shelves at the same velocity as Lush’s Sleepy body lotion I couldn’t help but grab a large pot of it as soon as it became available.

As someone who struggles with bouts of insomnia the promise of a product that could help you get a good nights sleep is right up my street. Beauty Sleep has a long list of ingredients known for their calming and relaxing qualities; Neroli, lavender and ylang ylang oils to name just a few.

There is honestly no other clay face mask quite as luxurious as Beauty Sleep currently available on the market. Each ingredient has been carefully selected to not only soothe, buff, hydrate and replenish your skin but also to relax and calm your mind.

The biggest surprise Beauty Sleep offers is that it contains a spoonful of one of Lush’s most decadent and very expensive, Gorgeous moisturiser. The first thing I noticed about Beauty Sleep was its fragrance. Considering how many ingredients it has, I really wasn’t expecting it to smell so close to Lush’s Sleepy scent, it’s not exactly the same, for example I can really smell the honey in it giving the Sleepy-like-fragrance a sweeter edge. For a full list of Beauty Sleeps ingredients please check Lush’s website as they keep it up to date.

Beauty Sleep must be applied to clean skin, I like to use a spatula or tea spoon to apply mine purely for hygiene reasons, I find if I don’t use my fingers to scoop out Lush’s face masks they always last a lot longer. A thin layer applied over the patches of skin that you feel need some tender loving care is all you need.

I leave it on for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, to wash it off I fill my sink with hot water then soak a clean flannel in that hot water. Next I hold the flannel over the part of my face I am about to wipe clean for about 10 seconds before using it to sweep the mask off, rinsing the flannel through out. I find that using hot water works best as it opens up your pores helping the clay face mask drag out all of the impurities.

As I said earlier, the Beauty Sleep face and body mask really is the most luxurious clay face mask currently available. Its ingredients do a number of important jobs. After having it on my face for just 15 minutes my skin is perfectly hydrated, feels softer and appears brighter. Any redness I had also fades somewhat and I just feel incredibly relaxed.

After just a few uses of the Beauty Sleep face and body mask my skin is clearer; Any dry, dead skin on my face has gone and my pores appear smaller. If I had the time I’d honestly use it at least 3 times a week.

I am head over heels in love with the Beauty Sleep face and body mask, it’s so much more than just a face mask, it’s the ‘Sleepy’ product we’ve all needed for years. Paired with the Twilight bath bomb and Sleepy bubble bar will make for one truly relaxing evening.
