I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas Bath Bomb from Lush

If you’ve spent your whole life looking for a star-spangled hippo to share a bath with then look no further as Lush are here to save the day!

The I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas Bath Bomb is brand new to this years (2020) Christmas line. It is inspired by a Christmas song of the same name that was released back in 1953. Up until the bath bombs release I actually hadn’t ever heard the song and had to look it up on YouTube, annoyingly it’s stupidly catchy… πŸ˜†

Like the Tick-Tock and Angels Delight bath bombs, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is another smaller bath bomb from this years Winter line. I can see why smaller sized bath bombs may not appeal to some customers but so far every bath bomb in this years line (big or small) has well and truly impressed me.

For the purpose of this review and to save both myself and you some time, I am now going to refer to the I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas bath bomb as just I Want a Hippo, Lush love to test my patience with super long names. I fear that if I continue to refer to it, by its full name I’ll never want to hear of or see a Hippopotamus ever again, star-spangled or not! πŸ˜‚

I Want a Hippo shares its scent with the old school, Lush classic bath bomb, Space Girl. You will also recognise its scent from this years (2020) Halloween shower gel, Very Very Frightening. It’s a much loved scent within the Lush community and I’m so happy that Lush are finally using it in new products.

I have never been very good at describing scents but I am confident in describing I Want a Hippo’s fragrance as a soft, yet mouthwateringly moreish raspberry affair. Containing cold pressed raspberry seed, grapefruit and bergamot oils its scent is both refreshing and relaxing.

The light sprinkling of stars used to decorate the I Want a Hippo bath bomb make me think of the Jingle Spells and old style Northern Lights bath bombs, its colour however reminds me of the Blackberry bath bomb. I’m not sure if any of those bath bombs helped inspire the design of  the I Want a Hippo bath bomb but if you like any of them, I’m sure you’d enjoy I Want a Hippo too.

As soon as the I Want a Hippo bath bomb hits the water you a greeted with a gentle hiss of purple bubbles. Followed by gentle pops of the popping candy hidden within. The gold stars decorating the bath bomb slowly become loose scattering across the waters surface before dissolving.

The hidden popping candy continues to crackle away for a short while after the bath bomb has fully dissolved. The water it leaves behind is a beautiful shade of purple and feels like silk to touch. It isn’t as moisturising as I’m used to with Lush bath bombs but doesn’t dry my skin out or anything. A body lotion in its scent would however be very much appreciated, hint, hint Lush!

Overall I really enjoyed using the I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas bath bomb, it might not put on much of a show and is on the small side BUT its scent is delightful, I can still smell it on my skin hours after getting out of the bath. Well done Lush, this is yet another bath bomb I have to stock up on before the year is through… πŸ™ˆ
