Floating Love Island Bath Oil from Lush

The Floating Love Island Bath Oil is brand new to Lush and a standout product from their 2023 Valentine’s Day line.

Shape wise, it’s not dissimilar to an upside-down cupcake case. It has scalloped edges, is bright pink, shimmery and has a raised heart on its top.

Floating Love Island contains a long list of ingredients some of those included are rose, jasmine, and vanilla absolutes and almond, lemongrass and Ylang Ylang oils. With it being a bath oil it of course also has plenty of organic cocoa butter in it too.

The Floating Love Island bath oil shares its scent with the Keep it Fluffy shower gel, its scent is best described as a powdery vanilla with hints of lemongrass. The ylang ylang within it also adds a floral element to it. It’s a super fun, oh-so-glamorous fragrance.

Apart from its colour and good looks, the first thing I noticed about the Floating Love Island bath oil was how big it was. In this review I’ve included a photo of it in my hand just so that you can truly gage its size. It’s HUGE for a bath oil!

As soon as the bath oil touches the water, pink specs start to sizzle out of it just like it would if it was a bath bomb. Slowly more and more pink fizzes out of it until the water becomes so pink that you can no longer see the bottom of your bath.

It wasn’t until I had actually used this bath oil that I realised it was less bath oil and more bath bomb.

The fact that the Floating Love Island bath oil is more of a bath bomb than a bath oil made me feel a lot better about using it whole. I very almost cut it up, scared that it would be way too oily for one bath due to its size. I was wrong.

At the risk of sounding like a parrot, if I hadn’t been told that Floating Love Island was a bath oil, I’d have put money on it being a bath bomb.

I’m really clumsy and have a joint condition so am always wary when it comes down to the oilier Lush products, Floating Love Island was however perfect. Oily enough to leave my skin feeling moisturised but not oily enough to make it a slip risk in the bath tub.

The really good news is that Lush are soon, going to release several ‘Lush Melts’. Unlike the Floating Love Island bath oil these new Lush Melts can be used in the bath as an oil or in a wax burner. Keep your eyes peeled on here and on my Instagram for more information on them when they are finally released.

Overall, I really liked the Floating Love Island bath oil, I honestly didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did. It feels fabulous on the skin and its scent lasted right through the day.

I might go as far as to say that Floating Love Island was my favourite product from this year’s Valentine’s Day line. I hope it makes a return next year.

Purple Carrots Shower Gel from Lush

The Purple Carrots Shower Gel was one of 5 products available in this month’s Kitchen box (April 2022). SPOILER ALERT, I wholeheartedly believe that it is the best shower gel Lush have released in a very long time. With Calacas shower gel being the exception, Purple Carrots is now my all-time favourite Lush shower gel. A bold statement indeed, but one I stand by.

As much as I like the What’s Up, Doc? shower gel from this year’s Easter line, I will never understand how it got made a part of the Easter line over the Purple Carrots shower gel. Both are amazing, Lush have really outdone themselves when it comes to their new shower gels this year BUT Purple Carrots has blown me away so much more than the latter has.

The Purple Carrots shower gel is, as its name suggests, purple. It’s a slightly lighter shade of purple than the Plum Rain shower gel and has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency.

The Purple Carrots shower gel contains a long list of ingredients. It has both purple carrot infusion and carrageenan extract, as well as the following essential oils; bergamot, buchu and Sicilian lemon. It actually shares its scent with several past products – best remembered in the likes of the Follow the White Rabbit bath bomb and the Bunch of Carrots reusable bubble bar.

The delicate yet refreshing scent of the Purple Carrots shower gel is very nostalgic to me as it reminds me of my paternal nan and grandads house when I was a little. It makes me feel safe and uplifted, it’s a simple but beautiful citrusy fragrance that I cannot get enough of.

As I said earlier, Lush have really outdone themselves this year when it comes down to their new-release shower gels, they just keep getting better. If Purple Carrots doesn’t become a mainline product in the not-so-distant future, Lush are making a big mistake. Choosing not to release the Purple Carrots shower gel properly, would be as big of a mistake from Lush as when they decided to cut off all their customers with their ‘deletion’ of social media.

It is a crime to let the Purple Carrots shower gel be just a one-off exclusive to April 2022’s Lush Kitchen Subscription box. If Lush were still on social media I’d be tagging and messaging them every day, bugging them to bring it out as a new shower gel in their permanent all-year-round line.

As I said earlier, the Purple Carrots shower gels consistency is deliciously thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up easily and a small amount goes a very long way. Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its scent engulfs you, filling your bathroom with its gorgeously refreshing scent.

The Purple Carrots shower gel leaves my skin looking and feeling clean, refreshed, soft and well moisturised. After I’ve used it, the scent lasts on my skin for a good few hours. It’s also really hydrating too. It seems to lock in moisture just as well as a body lotion does. Overall, I cannot recommend the Purple Carrots shower gel more, I am extremely bitter to only have one bottle of it. Lush, please, please bring it out properly!

Mimosa Shower Gel from Lush

The Mimosa Shower Gel is a brand-new, limited-edition, Mother’s Day product that first became available in the UK in the middle of February 2022. I have well and truly grown bored of Lush’s small collection of all-year-round shower gels so was very excited to get a brand new one in the shower with me.

Mimosa shower gel is a beautiful shade of golden orange, when the sunlight hits it, it really reminds me of a fresh bottle of Calacas shower gel, it glows in exactly the same way. Lush have done the impossible with this shower gel, it is quite literally the sun in shower gel form.

It has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency and since its release, has been popular throughout the Lush Community. There is something about it that is so incredibly moreish.

The Mimosa shower gel contains a long list of ingredients; elderflower infusion, fresh orange juice, wine lees oil, mimosa absolute, sweet wild orange oil, and carnation absolute to name just a few.

Give or take a few ingredients such as the mimosa absolute, the Mimosa shower gel shares a lot of the same ingredients as the Celebrate and Bubbly shower gels. I was really surprised when I first sniffed the Mimosa shower gel straight from the bottle, I was expecting it to smell a little like the shower gels I mentioned earlier but not quite as much as it did.

At first, I really was convinced that the Mimosa shower gel was just yet another version of a Celebrate scented shower gel. I thought Lush had cheated with their claim that Mimosa was a new scent entirely. Some products scents, particularly shower gels do however change in use so although I was sceptical of it being a new Lush scent, I kept an open mind.

As I said earlier, the Mimosa shower gels consistency is quite thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up easily and a small amount goes a very long way too. Once the hot water and steam of the shower meets the shower gel and you begin to lather it up, its scent becomes less like the Celebrate shower gel and more of its own.

It is still very similar to the Celebrate shower gel scent wise BUT it has a floral twist that becomes less subtle and more dominant during use. As the mimosa note of the shower gels fragrance becomes more apparent the more, it reminds me of warmer weather and the sunshine. It literally washes away your Winter blues, it’s the perfect pre Spring pick-me-up.

My favourite thing about the Mimosa shower gel is however how it leaves my skin looking and feeling. After I’ve used it, the scent doesn’t last on my skin for very long (if at all) BUT it does leave my skin feeling incredibly soft. It’s also very hydrating; it seems to lock in moisture just as well as a body lotion does.- Overall, I really do like this shower gel, it’s perfect for this time of year. It’s quite literally a bottle of shower-gel-sunshine!
