Psychodelic Bubble Bar from Lush

I had never actually heard of the Psychodelic Bubble Bar until it was released on the Lush Kitchen menu earlier this year (2017). It’s clear to see that it’s a looker, the colours alone sold it to me within seconds of seeing it.

There’s just something about the blue, white and yellow that gives off a really happy vibe, no one can deny that we all need a little more happiness in our life, so I ordered a few when they were up for grabs.

When I opened the parcel with them in I was greeted with a Lush scent that I hadn’t come across before. I always skim read the ingredients list before purchasing anything that is new to me, this however doesn’t always help as 9 times out of 10, when I get a product in my hands it smells nothing like how I had imagined.

Reading the list of ingredients in the Psychodelic bubble bar it was the cinnamon leaf and sweet orange oil that stood out for me. I love cinnamon for its warming properties and sweet orange oil for how it refreshes and revives not only your skin but also your state of mind. I wasn’t too sure what cinnamon and orange oil would smell like together but I knew as soon as the bubble bar arrived that they were a match made in heaven.

The Psychodelic bubble bars scent is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The most dominant ingredient in it is definitely the sweet orange oil, the cinnamon that is paired with it rounds the sweetness off unlike any Lush product I have used before. Someone on Instagram described this bubble bar as being similar to the Phoenix Rising bath bomb, I don’t disagree, I can see what they mean but they are not the same scent. Together the both of them would however make a very good bath cocktail.

Psychodelic is a similar size to the Bar Humbug bubble bar, if you’ve read any of my bubble bar reviews previous to this one then you’d know that I prefer the bigger bubble bars such as The Comforter. Lush however prove time and time again that good products come in all shapes and sizes.

I like to make bubble bars that are the same size as the Psychodelic spread out over (at the very least) 2 baths. Sometimes with Lush the smallest amount of product goes a very long way, with Psychodelic I however had to use a whole one in just the one bath to get the most out of it.

It created a thick blanket of fluffy-white bubbles and the water beneath it was a dazzling turquoise colour. The scent of it became very subtle once in the water, it was in fact almost undetectable by the time I got into the bath which was a little disappointing.

It however worked like magic on my skin, a soak in a Psychodelic bath left my skin feeling soft and as fresh as a daisy. Although the scent didn’t last I did really enjoy the vivid colours of this bubble bar, the turquoise water it created was so inviting and I will be using it again just not on its own. If anyone has any suggestions of what you think would go well with it please pop them below! 🙂

Mother Earth Bath Bomb from Lush

The Mother Earth Bath Bomb is the first of the recent, larger sized seasonal exclusives that I have actually bought. At the Lush Showcase 2016, I demoed the larger versions of Dragon’s Egg and Intergalactic, the Mother of Dragons Egg and Nebula bath bomb.

Although both were fantastic (videos and photos can be found if you scroll through to September 2016 on my Instagram feed) I didn’t really see the point of getting them as they were exactly the same except for their size. Limited edition yes, however, I had a wedding to save for back then so decided against getting them, which I of course regret.

At the Lush Summit 2017, Lush introduced us to yet another giant sized product, the Mother Earth bath bomb. Scent and appearance wise, Mother Earth is just a larger version of the World Piece bath bomb. (A play on the words piece and peace, not a grammatical error!) Unlike the previous larger bath bombs released, Mother Earth is actually slightly different to its smaller version, how it differs remains a secret until it is placed in the water…

After seeing photographs on Instagram of the amazing bath art that the Mother Earth bath bomb creates, I knew I needed to get hold of at least one to use myself. When describing Mother Earth’s scent, the first word that springs to mind is refreshing. Its primary scent is mostly peppermint based, it however has a zingy, citrus fruit element to it, this unique blend of ingredients dampens the peppermint aspect in Mother Earth ever so slightly, although it still has a fantastically refreshing scent, the mint in it isn’t as sharp, making it more gentle on the nose.

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked its blend of unique ingredients, before Lush I’d never experienced anything minty that wasn’t on its own or at a push, mixed with chocolate. I however felt exactly the same when I first tried another minty bath bomb, the Abombinaball, which happens to now be one of my favourite Lush products.

Discovering that mint goes with so much more than just chocolate is another thing I have to thank Lush for.

With the Mother Earth bath bomb being so big it’s a very, very slow fizzer. I didn’t time mine but at a guess I’d say it took just over 20 minutes to fully dissolve. Being a slow burner, Mother Earth gives you more than enough time to appreciate the bath art it creates. The device I use to take photos of bath art actually ran out of power as I couldn’t stop snapping away at all of the beautiful colours and patterns it created.

I haven’t included all of the shots I got as we’d be here all day… What makes Mother Earth different from its smaller version World Piece is that it has a pink middle. This is probably why I fell in love with it so much. If in doubt, just add pink!

The pretty colours; Pink, blue and green that spurt out of this bath bomb more than entertained me, I love a bath bomb that I don’t get bored of half way through, especially one that lasts so very long! No other bath bomb has ever held my attention span quite like this one.

It wasn’t until I got out of the bath that I realised how this product benefited my skin. My skin has never looked or felt better, I’m not sure whether this is down to its huge size, many bath bombs make my skin feel fabulous none however have topped the effects of Mother Earth. This bath bomb has to be one of my favourites from the list of new for 2017 products. The purple bath water it leaves you with is such a beautiful shade, unfortunately Mother Earth was a part of this years (2017) Mothers Day line so isn’t available anymore. I am really upset with myself for not picking up a few more of these while I could!

Wash Behind Your Ears Shower Gel from Lush

I always get ridiculously over excited when a new Lush shower gel or cream is released. Shower gels don’t have as much wow factor as the Lush bath bombs do and I think that’s what makes me like them so much.

When I first got into Lush I ignorantly focused all of my attention on to the bath bombs and bubble bars, it wasn’t until I had explored those products that I began to crave more.

It wasn’t long until all of the scents and colours of the bath bomb and bubble bars had completely seduced me leaving me wanting anything and everything Lush… Enter Lush shower gel!

My very first Lush shower gel was Twilight. Our pairing obviously went off with a bang and ever since I’ve sought after every Lush shower gel I can get my hands on. This Easter (2017) Lush decided to bring out a limited edition, brand new shower gel called Wash Behind Your Ears.

Wash Behind Your Ears Shower Gel

The Wash Behind Your Ears Shower Gel is a bold and very bright orange fitting in perfectly with the Springtime and Easter holidays. What has surprised so many people about it is that it, (just like the Flopsy face wash jelly) contains carrot infusion.

Unfortunately I have heard very mixed reviews on Wash Behind Your Ears, some have said its scent is dull, others say it just smells like carrot. I have also heard that its texture is more creamy than most shower gels. Do I agree with any of the above statements? Yes I do – but not all of them!

Wash Behind Your Ears does have a very creamy texture in comparison to some of Lush’s other shower gels, I however find that it lathers up very quickly which is the opposite trait to most Lush shower creams. What I find most satisfying about its texture is that the smallest amount seems to go a very long way. Although most people tend to overindulge with the liquid products, squeezing out more than they actually need you really do not need to do this with Wash Behind Your Ears. I can see one 250g bottle of it lasting me for more than 6 months with everyday use.

Dull is the wrong word to describe its scent, it’s not as attention grabbing or dominant as the likes of Plum Rain or Snow Fairy but it isn’t dull. Subtle is a more accurate way of describing its scent. It actually has quite a soft floral air about it and I personally cannot identify any carrot. It does however have a root vegetable element to its scent, one that reminds me of prepared, raw root vegetables such as the parsnip. I have only ever thought this about one other product and that was the Magic bath bomb.

I get that my use of the word ‘parsnip’ may put some people off, as the thought of rubbing parsnips all over your body isn’t very exciting at all. Please don’t be put off by my comparison though, root veg vibes or no root veg vibes with its added floral undertones the scent really does work. If you’re a Lushie that prefers the softer scents Wash Behind Your Ears may just be the perfect shower gel for you.

Although Wash Behind Your Ears didn’t woo me in quite the same way as the Hot Toddy shower gel did, I didn’t dislike it. I also do not think it deserves the amount of negative attention that it got, it is a very efficient shower gel that brightens and refreshes my skin  with long lasting effects. I wouldn’t miss it if it didn’t come back again but I did buy an extra bottle to keep in my Lush storage!
