Boo! Shower Slime

The first shower slimes were released in the Summer of 2019 so at the point of writing this review they are still a relatively new product from Lush. The product type itself is without question quite a conversation starter.

I have heard mixed reviews on the concept of shower slimes but interestingly enough, I have yet to hear a negative review from anyone who has actually given one or all of the shower slimes a go.

With a new season comes new Lush products; This September the Lush Halloween line was unleashed on the world and what a spectacularly spooky line it is… Boo! Shower Slime is the 3rd shower slime to have been released by Lush and with it being jet black, it fits right in with all-things-Halloween.

Before I had, had a chance to see its ingredients list I had imagined the Boo! shower slime to possibly share its scent with one of the year-in, year-out Halloween bath bombs the Lord of Misrule or Monsters’ Ball. I was (as always) wrong, the Boo! shower slime in fact shares its scent with the Bubblegum lip scrub, something I don’t think any of the Lush community were expecting at all.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Bubblegum lip scrubs scent it’s very similar (maybe a little bit sweeter but close enough to be considered the same scent family) to the Snow Fairy shower gels scent. This products scent decision was made by the shower-slime-product-inventor himself as he wanted it to give homage to a Halloween trick or treat haul.

Think sickly-sweet and all things sugar and candy floss. I’ll admit it isn’t my favourite fragrance from Lush’s extensive-scent-library and is normally reserved for Lush’s Christmas products BUT I thought I’d give it a go nevertheless. If anything it would at the least help me to get into the spirit of Halloween!

Shower slime IS very slime-like BUT it’s not that much different to a shower gel. In fact, you pretty much use it just as you would a shower gel. A small amount goes a very long  way making it great value for money. Lush shower slimes have quite a lot of cornflour in them which is what gives them that slightly thicker, milky-dough-like-consistency.

With just a bit of water the slime soon lathers up into something that resembles shower gel. Fear not, shower slimes will definitely not clog up your drains. The horrified-by-slime-people will also be very pleased to hear that Lush shower slimes are also NOT at all sticky.

The shower slime is actually quite fun to play around with and when you finally want to use it for its body-cleansing-purposes, lathers up just as good and as quickly as a shower gel does. One thing I love about Boo! is that it is not only extremely hydrating on your skin but also ever so slightly scrubby (as in super-duper gentle scrubby) which leaves your skin cleansed and magnificently smooth too.

I have not really mentioned anything else about the colour of the Boo! shower slime as in use it’s just like any other shower product from Lush. I was a bit weirded out at the idea of using a jet black shower product back when the Scrub Scrub Scrub shower scrub first came out BUT I had a brilliant experience with it, it left me completely open minded about using the ever-growing list of strangely-popular black Lush products.

I have found that when it comes down to the black products, customers either get really excited about trying them or they freak out asking why you would use such a product in the bath or shower (a place you go in to get clean not dirtier). Boo! however does exactly what I would want any cleansing shower product to do. After using it I am clean and refreshed, no ‘black marks’ are left on me and there isn’t any clean up to do in the shower either.

Although scent wise the Boo! shower slime isn’t my favourite, I enjoyed using it very much. As I mentioned above it left my skin clean, hydrated and unexpectedly smooth so I was more than satisfied in that respect. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try before it’s too late… Hurry! There’s only a few days left until Halloween! 👻💀🎃

Punkin Pumpkin Bath Bomb from Lush

Punkin Pumpkin Bath Bomb

The 2019 Halloween range from Lush is one of their best Halloween line ups yet. Several spooky and very-much-loved Halloween products have made a re-appearance as well as 2 brand-new bath bombs; Mercury Retrograde and Punkin Pumpkin.

The Punkin Pumpkin is obviously the most in-your-face-Halloween out of the 2 and as its name suggests, it is a pumpkin-shaped bath bomb that is NOT to be confused with the Pumpkin bath bomb from previous years.

Punkin Pumpkin is quite a unique bath bomb to say the least, Lush have been crazy-clever and have managed to make this bath bombs eyes and mouth glow in the dark, just as if it was a real carved pumpkin with a lit candle inside! 😮

I’m a super geek who loves a day-time-bath. Bathing in the day means I get to take advantage of the natural lighting, it’s the perfect conditions for bath art photo opportunities. The only downside to this is that I never got to experience the glow-in-the-dark aspect of the Punkin Pumpkin while in the bath. 🙁

I did however shine a torch on it for a minute or two before turning the lights off just to see if it really did glow and GLOW IT DID! Although the glow wasn’t quite as bright as the Ghost in the Dark soap (which is available again this year) it did definitely glow.

Now to get on with the science behind this magical glowing product. The first question everyone asks when introduced to such a product is, ‘HOW?!!’ You’ll have to read on to find out…

The magic glowing ingredient in Punkin Pumpkin is luminescent zinc sulfide. I was going to do a whole paragraph on the ins-and-outs of it until I remembered how bad I am at Chemistry. Instead of embarrassing myself I have included a link that sends you directly  to Lush’s website where all of the ‘glowing’ information can be found *click here*.

Along side the luminescent zinc sulfide, Punkin Pumpkin also contains pumpkin powder and cinnamon-leaf, lime, orange and Sicilian-red-mandarin oils.

Its scent is very warming and a lot more limey than I had imagined prior to sniffing it. Smelling it now I want to say that it also has a slight peppery undertone to it. It’s not too in-your-face cinnamony either which is a bonus for some customers. I on the other hand would have liked it to have contained a bit more cinnamon as I can never get enough of cinnamon, especially at this time of year!

As soon as the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb touches the water a burst of orange and green erupts from it, spilling out into the bath while it floats on the waters-surface.

Size wise Punkin Pumpkin is actually quite a chunky bath bomb, I’d say that it is almost as thick as the likes of the larger Lush bubble bars such as the Brightside and The Comforter. With this in mind I was pleasantly surprised that the bath bomb floated the whole time it was in the bath.

Once the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb has fully dissolved it leaves your bath water a warm orange colour. The colour isn’t the only thing that makes a Punkin Pumpkin bath so wonderfully inviting either, the bath water is silky soft to the touch and just a 15 minute soak left my skin feeling much softer.

Once I was out of the bath I couldn’t help but notice how much brighter my skin appeared. As well as being brighter in appearance, it was also perfectly moisturised too.

Its fragrance although subtle, left me surprised as it remained on my skin for the best-part of the rest-of-the-day. Again in regards to its subtle scent, Punkin Pumpkin is definitely better suited to those customers who favour lighter more delicate fragrances.

Overall I am quite impressed with the Punkin Pumpkin bath bomb, I’d have personally liked to have seen it with a slightly stronger scent though. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t share its scent with the aforementioned Pumpkin bath bomb too but that’s just me being super fussy! 😝 Regardless of this, I still believe Punkin Pumpkin to be an incredible new addition to the Lush Halloween, bath-bomb-family. 🎃

Sleepy Dust Dusting Powder from Lush

After the unbelievable success of Lush’s Sleepy body lotion, Sleepy scented products have slowly been making an appearance in all sorts of different product-formats. This review is about the brand new limited-edition, Sleepy Dust Dusting Powder. Sleepy Dust is a part of this years (2019) Winter collection and what a collection it is!

My first experience with the Sleepy scent was actually through the Twilight bath bomb a very long time ago. It was the first Lush scent family that I became familiar with and after just one use of the bath bomb I wanted every product available in its same scent. Back then all I could however get hold of that shared its scent was the Twilight shower gel and that was only available in a gift set!

Luckily Lush realised that the world needed more Sleepy and several more Twilight/Sleepy scented products were released; My favourite so far being the Sleepy shower gel.

Dusting Powders are used in the same way as you would talcum powder, I often add a little bit just on my arms and legs as it leaves your skin feeling silky soft. I also find it very helpful for under boob sweat when we are experiencing warmer weather (or on the very rare occasion that I exercise voluntarily… 😂)

Containing lavender, tonka and ylang ylang, Sleepy Dust is overflowing with some of the world’s most soothing, natural ingredients. Also containing kaolin and oat kernel oil it’s perfect for mattfying skin while also helping it to retain moisture. There isn’t anything else quite like its calming and relaxingly-warm lavender fragrance.

I know a lot of people associate anything lavender with ‘old ladies’, Sleepy Dust’s fragrance is however a scent that is popular to those of all ages, before I discovered Lush I didn’t think it was even possible to have a lavender fragrance that I’d actually enjoy as much as I do Sleepy.

It wasn’t until I tried a dusting powder that I realised how useful they were. A quick dusting on my chest, underarms and thighs really do make getting through the day that little bit easier.

I love how fragranced Sleepy Dust is too, its gentle lavender scent stays with you long after using it. I do of course prefer to use Sleepy at the end of the day, after a bath and just before bed for obvious reasons. I am always super happy when Lush bring out a new dusting powder as using the same ones day in, day out can get a little boring.

Sleepy Dust is very much like an old Winter dusting powder from a previous Lush Winter line, the Mr Sandman dusting powder. While both are Twilight/Sleepy scented I have found the Sleepy dusting powder to be better suited to my skin because of the oat kernel oil. Also, Sleepy doesn’t have nearly as much lustre as Mr Sandman does. So little that I in fact cannot even see it. This for some will also a bonus. Overall I really like Sleepy dusting powder. It’s a very welcome addition to my dusting powder collection!
