Snow Fairy Roll Bubble Bar from Lush

The Snow Fairy Roll Bubble Bar has returned to Lush for yet another Winter. I can see it being a staple Winter product for years and years to come so thought I’d finally get my review on it published – better late than never!

Within the Lush Community the Snow Fairy scent dominates the festive period year-in-year-out and features in a variety of different product formats. Keeping on top of my reviews is like a full-time-job sometimes, hence this review going live well over a year since the bubble bars original release.

With the Snow Fairy Roll bubble bar selling so well last Winter, Lush decided to also bring it out in an extra-large version for Christmas 2021. The standard sized Snow Fairy Roll weighs approximately 200g while the super-sized version is approximately 1000g!

If you’ve read any of my previous product reviews on other Snow Fairy scented products such as the Snow Fairy shower gel or Snow Fairy bath bomb, you’d know I don’t tend to favour the sweeter scents. However, over the years I’ve warmed to the Snow Fairy scent somewhat. What really helps sell anything Snow Fairy to me is the fact all of the stock in its fragrance is my favourite colour, bright pink.

The standard sized Snow Fairy Roll bubble bars are the same size as the all-year-round bubble bar favourites, The Comforter and Brightside bubble bars. They are also made in the exact same way – 2 different coloured bubble bar mixtures are rolled together then chopped into separate bars ready to sell.

If you’d like to see them being made behind the scenes, be sure to check out @lushsneakypeeks on Instagram. It’s a fantastic account run by one of Lush’s most creative product-inventors. It’s by far the best insight into life at the Lush factory available on social media right now!

I’m usually not shy when it comes to being greedy with my bubble bars and I always overindulge but if I decided to be sensible with this bubble bar, I could easily get 5 maybe 6 generously bubbled baths out of just the one Snow Fairy Roll bubble bar. My favourite thing about all of the ‘Roll bubble bars’ is how far they go. They are definitely the most cost-effective Lush products available to date.

To use Lush bubble bars, I break them up and stick however many pieces I want into a sieve before running it under the tap. Copious amounts of bubbles begin to build up in the bath almost immediately.

If like me you’re not crazy on the Snow Fairy scent, I recommend using smaller amounts of the bubble bar chunks per bath. After all, it’s easy to add more product if you feel it needs it BUT is impossible to take any back if you’ve accidentally used too much. Sometimes, less is more!

The Snow Fairy Roll bubble bars scent is a sickly-sweet blend of candy and bubblegum making it quite an acquired taste. I wasn’t a huge fan of the scent at first, favouring the spicy products such as this year’s Cinnamon Roll bubble bar instead BUT after back-to-back Winters packed full of all-things-Snow-Fairy I now feel as if Christmas would no longer be Christmas without it.

While the bath runs, underneath the vastly growing blanket of bubbles the water turns a beautiful shade of bright pink with a silvery white coloured shimmer to it. The water is silky soft and despite its strong sweet scent I find myself very relaxed while soaking myself in its waters.

Being honest as always, the Snow Fairy Roll bubble bar isn’t my favourite bubble bar from Lush but the beautiful colour it turns the water makes my inner 4-year-old so very happy! As I mentioned at the start of this review, it’s a very popular product and I can see it coming back year after year in both its standard and super-sized versions. 😊

Sleepy Bath Bomb from Lush

The Sleepy Bath Bomb is a mini version of the giant-sized bath bomb, The Sleeping Giant. It shares its scent with The Sleeping Giant and also features the same super-exclusive, reusable glow-in-the-dark wax stars and moon. Although, the Sleepy bath bombs are ever so slightly smaller in comparison.

The masses will be pleased to hear that this bath bomb is yet another extension of the Sleepy scented range.

Lush’s Sleepy range is huge and because of its ‘magical sleeping properties’ happens to be one of Lush’s most sought after and best-selling scent families. You are most likely to recognise its scent from the bestselling products the Twilight bath bomb and the Sleepy body lotion.

The Sleepy bath bomb isn’t the easiest of bath bombs to get a hold of. At the time of posting this review it is exclusive to just 2 considerably expensive, Winter box sets – the 2021 Advent Calendar, and the Dreamland gift set.

It has also been available individually at Sleepy pop-up shops but again, these pop-up shops are only open for a few days and pop up in places at random.

If I was lucky enough to be near or at the right place at the right time, I’d have definitely purchased myself a few extra.

If the gift sets are a little out of your price range and you haven’t been lucky with a close-by Sleepy pop-up shop, a good alternative to the Sleepy bath bomb is the Sleepy Bear bath bomb. Sleepy Bear is also exclusive to this year’s Winter range, shares the same scent and is available to purchase individually everywhere.

What really sets the Sleepy bath bomb apart from the rest of the bath bombs is its 3 glow-in-the-dark reusable, wax stars, and moon shapes. We’ve had a glow in the dark soap before now (Ghost in the Dark) but nothing like these wax shapes that have been made to last indefinitely.

To activate the glow in the dark moon and stars simply have them sat in natural light so that they can charge, before using them.

The Sleepy bath bomb contains popping candy, lavender, brenzoin resinoid, tonka absolute and ylang ylang oils. Anything from the Sleepy range is perfect to use just before bed. The lavender and tonka absolute are the perfect ingredient to help you wind down after a long, hard day.

I don’t think I will ever get used to the products with popping candy in, even when I know they are featured in a product the first few snaps, crackle and pops always seem to take me by surprise, however, when using the Sleepy bath bomb I was really disappointed as it seemed to have hardly any popping candy in it at all. It popped 3 or 4 times and that was it.

Compared to this year’s Orange Pop bath bomb it was as if there wasn’t any popping candy in it at all.

The bath art that the Sleepy bath bomb creates is a mixture of purple, dark (almost grey) silver and gold swirls. It took a little longer than most bath bombs for the bath art to kick in but once it did, I was mesmerised. In ways, the bath art from the Sleepy bath bomb reminded me of the bath art the original Shoot for the Stars bath bomb used to create.

After using the Sleepy bath bomb its scent stays with you throughout the evening and even lasts on your skin for most of the next day. Not only do you benefit from its beautifully subtle scent hours and hours after using it, you also get soft, smooth and gloriously hydrated skin too.

I’m really sad that the Sleepy bath bomb is quite difficult to get a hold of as it’s a truly unique and spectacular bath bomb. Being honest, I would have liked to have seen a little more bath art from it but what it did create was pretty. It made a very welcome change to the aforementioned, same-old Twilight bath bomb.

I feel sorry for all of the hard-core Sleepy/Twilight fans that won’t get to give the Sleepy bath bomb a go because of how exclusive it is.

Hopefully Lush have a change of heart in-the-near-future and decide to make it easier to get a hold of. The reusable glow-in-the-dark wax stars really make this bath bomb, it’s such a unique idea and I will be keeping them for as long as they last!

Plum Duff Shower Gel from Lush

The Plum Duff Shower Gel has just been released as a part of Lush’s 2021 Winter line. It’s a brand-new product but not a brand-new scent. The Plum Duff scent has been brought back to life in this shower gel, I have only ever experienced it before in a sugar scrub format, several years ago.

Plum Duff is a rich, dark purple and has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency. Colour and consistency wise it is very similar to the Plum Rain shower gel, apart from the colour, consistency and the word ‘Plum’ appearing in both of their names, this is the only things the shower gels have in common. Plum Rain and Plum Duff are not the same scent.

Plum Duff contains both cedarwood and tangerine oil as well as raisin infusion and benzoin resinoid.

Plum Duff’s scent is a gentle one with fruity and woody elements. The cedarwood rounds off the sweet and zestyness of the tangerine oil while the  benzoin resinoid adds an earthiness. Apparently, its name was inspired by a Christmas pudding, although I don’t know which one as I always eat chocolate puddings at Christmas!

As I said earlier Plum Duff’s consistency is thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up in your hands easily and the fruity side of it really shines through when mixed with the hot water and steam of the shower.

I will admit that I wasn’t blown away with Plum Duff when I sniffed it straight from the bottle, but it grew on me once I’d tried it in the shower. Its scent although delicate did perk me up somewhat and a very small amount of it goes a very long way.

I couldn’t smell the Plum Duff shower gel on my skin once I got out of the shower, even when I over-indulged, using more than needed it didn’t seem to last. It did however leave my skin softer, almost as if the shower gel had an invisible exfoliant in. It cleanses skin well and leaves it hydrated enough to get away with not moisturising after your shower.

While the Plum Duff shower gel hasn’t got me as excited as past Winter shower gels such as Bubbly, Hot Toddy and Calacas, it did grow on me the more I used it. I can see it selling well to customers that prefer a more gentle scented shower gel.

In my opinion it isn’t very Christmassy either so I imagine it would also be popular with customers that aren’t quite ready to embrace Christmas 2021 just yet…
