Pink Flamingo Reusable Bubble Bar from Lush

img_4776To look at, the Pink Flamingo Reusable Bubble Bar is pretty much my dream product as I LOVE flamingos. My house is decorated heavily with them. Why? because they make me happy, what could be cooler than a big pink bird?!

The Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar was first introduced to the public on Lush Oxford Street’s opening day back on the 24th of April 2015. When I very first see it splashed all over Instagram I couldn’t help but be beside myself with excitement about getting hold of one.

Most of Lush’s reusable bubble bars are on sticks. For me, this makes using them a lot easier as all I need to do is hold it by the stick while letting the bubble bar bit go under the running tap. (I’ve explained in almost every one of my bubble bar reviews previous to this, how the bubble bar works etc. I have also gone into detail on how I have to use a sieve for the ordinary bubble bars as I don’t have a dual-temperature tap). This reason alone gives the stick based reusable bubble bars an advantage (in my house anyway!)

I however often find that Lush’s reusable bubble bars when compared to Lush’s standard bubble bars such as Pop in the Bath aren’t as good when used. I find that the reusable bubble bars don’t produce as many bubbles and I also find that the water colour they create is never as bright or bold in comparison unless you use almost most of the product which means it isn’t a reusable product at all. In spite of this, I was still very eager to try the Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar as Lush have proved me wrong on so many previous occasions.

Pink Flamingo is scented just how I had imagined. It has a very gentle citrus scent, one that reminds me of a fruity cocktail, what makes this bubble bars scent so unique from every other Lush product is its use of the bergamot and ylang ylang oils. Together they both give off a subtle fruity fragrance and appear to counteract each other somewhat. The scent although softened down by this clever mix of ingredients, is still very noticeable yet, not too in your face. It is the perfect summer scent that leaves you feeling uplifted and stress free.

At the start of this bubble bar review I predicted how the Pink Flamingo would perform in the bath. Unfortunately I was actually right for once, well.. Half right any way. The ordinary bubble bars run rings around the reusable ones performance wise. With Pink Flamingo I did however manage to get 2 more-than-adequately bubbled bubble baths out of just the one bar, it just took a little longer than I am used to.

Naturally with a reusable bubble bar I’d expect copious amounts of uses (so more than 2) but when you compare Pink Flamingo to the likes of the smaller bubble bars such as Yuzu and Cocoa or Granny Takes A Dip, it’s actually not that much different and is probably one of the better reusable bubble bars that Lush have released.

It takes a lot longer for the bubbles to emerge with this reusable bubble bar, though this is probably more of a reflection of my poor levels of patience than a reflection of the bubble bar itself. Even though the bubbles are slow to materialise the scent instantaneously fills my bathroom with a delicate citrus fragrance while at the same time it slowly turns the water underneath the thin-bubble-blanket a very bright, shade of pink.

Although I am a little disappointed that I could only get 2 baths out of the one Pink Flamingo it was a lot better than I had expected when comparing it to other reusable Lush products such as the Santasaurus. The only other thing that I feel is worth a mention is that the Pink Flamingo didn’t create particularly moisturising bath water for my skin to enjoy. Again I find this with all of the reusable bubble bars that I have tried so far so it wasn’t a very unexpected surprise.

With all of this in mind I have stored the Flamingo reusable bubble bar in the novelty-product-collection section of my brain. It was a lot better than I had expected off of a reusable product but hasn’t quite made it to my list of top 10 bubble bars. It is however a very beautifully designed product that never fails to catch people’s attention!

Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds Bubble Bar from Lush

Photo 10-06-2017, 13 07 42.png

The Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds Bubble Bar is yet another HUGE one! It shares the same shape, size and design as the  Brightside and the The Comforter bubble bar which makes me very, very happy. Everyone loves a bargain after all…

It was of course the Comforter bubble bar that first got me into a Lush store, I had no idea how to even use bubble bars back then. Just thinking of my first trip in to a Lush store gives me butterflies, I can remember how excited I was and how adamant I was to find a product that could be spread over several baths instead of just the one (i.e not a bath bomb) it was that day that I stumbled across Lush bubble bars.

The Comforter bubble bar was a huge success for me, it left me wanting to try all of the other bubble bars Lush have, after just one bath I was hooked. The Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds bubble bar (which I am now going to name Blue Skies for the rest of this review otherwise we’re going to be here for a very long time 😂) wasn’t a scent I was immediately drawn to. At first I always went for the fruity products, curiosity however got the better of me and I picked up a Blue Skies so that I could try it at home.

Just like the Brightside bubble bar, the smallest amount of Blue Skies goes a long way. I can easily get 6 generously bubbled bubble baths out of just the one bar. Often I break it up into 10 or 12 pieces before placing it all in a jar in my bathroom. I have several jars displayed with all different bubble bars in them, my husband calls it Lulu’s Bubble Bar, Bar… 😆

I like to break my bubble bars into lots of pieces so that I can easily mix products together. It is also a lot easier to add more of a product if you feel the bath needs it than it is to take it back out, I feel storing it like this makes me less wasteful.

Blue Skies bubble bar is described as having a scent that is, ‘an exotic, hypnotic fragrance that helps you relax.’ The patchouli and frankincense are probably the most noticeable of its ingredients to me. Patchouli and I don’t always get on as unfortunately in some products that contain it such as The Lord of Misrule bath bomb, it can trigger my migraines. I am however okay with Blue Skies, I think maybe the frankincense and cinnamon oil in it saves it for me.

Blue Skies has a very musky, spicy almost peppery scent, I wish I could detect more cinnamon in it, I think I’d use it more often if the cinnamon in it was stronger. As said above, the smallest amount of Blue Skies makes copious amounts of soft and white fluffy bubbles. It’s not until you’re sat in a Blue Skies bath that you realise why it is named Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds.

Its scent although not one I’d normally go for to help me relax does do a great job of helping me clear my head and feel calm. I love the deep blue that it turns the water too, it really is reminiscent of a beautiful Summers day.

Blue skies isn’t my favourite of the BIG bubble bars, that crown still belongs to The Comforter for now, I do however recommend Blue Skies if you’re looking for something a little different. Throughout my use of Lush I feel my sense of smell has matured somewhat. Blue Skies was a product I had to use a few times before I really started to appreciate it, I am glad I gave it a chance as it’s a much loved product to me now.

Psychodelic Bubble Bar from Lush

I had never actually heard of the Psychodelic Bubble Bar until it was released on the Lush Kitchen menu earlier this year (2017). It’s clear to see that it’s a looker, the colours alone sold it to me within seconds of seeing it.

There’s just something about the blue, white and yellow that gives off a really happy vibe, no one can deny that we all need a little more happiness in our life, so I ordered a few when they were up for grabs.

When I opened the parcel with them in I was greeted with a Lush scent that I hadn’t come across before. I always skim read the ingredients list before purchasing anything that is new to me, this however doesn’t always help as 9 times out of 10, when I get a product in my hands it smells nothing like how I had imagined.

Reading the list of ingredients in the Psychodelic bubble bar it was the cinnamon leaf and sweet orange oil that stood out for me. I love cinnamon for its warming properties and sweet orange oil for how it refreshes and revives not only your skin but also your state of mind. I wasn’t too sure what cinnamon and orange oil would smell like together but I knew as soon as the bubble bar arrived that they were a match made in heaven.

The Psychodelic bubble bars scent is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The most dominant ingredient in it is definitely the sweet orange oil, the cinnamon that is paired with it rounds the sweetness off unlike any Lush product I have used before. Someone on Instagram described this bubble bar as being similar to the Phoenix Rising bath bomb, I don’t disagree, I can see what they mean but they are not the same scent. Together the both of them would however make a very good bath cocktail.

Psychodelic is a similar size to the Bar Humbug bubble bar, if you’ve read any of my bubble bar reviews previous to this one then you’d know that I prefer the bigger bubble bars such as The Comforter. Lush however prove time and time again that good products come in all shapes and sizes.

I like to make bubble bars that are the same size as the Psychodelic spread out over (at the very least) 2 baths. Sometimes with Lush the smallest amount of product goes a very long way, with Psychodelic I however had to use a whole one in just the one bath to get the most out of it.

It created a thick blanket of fluffy-white bubbles and the water beneath it was a dazzling turquoise colour. The scent of it became very subtle once in the water, it was in fact almost undetectable by the time I got into the bath which was a little disappointing.

It however worked like magic on my skin, a soak in a Psychodelic bath left my skin feeling soft and as fresh as a daisy. Although the scent didn’t last I did really enjoy the vivid colours of this bubble bar, the turquoise water it created was so inviting and I will be using it again just not on its own. If anyone has any suggestions of what you think would go well with it please pop them below! 🙂
