Jolly Shower Gel from Lush

The Jolly Shower Gel was recently released by Lush; It is a limited-edition product that is a part of Lush’s 2021 Winter line. It’s a brand-new product and a brand-new scent!

Jolly is bright orange and has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency. Consistency wise it is very similar to the Bubbly shower gel from past Winter lines.

Jolly contains a very Christmassy list of ingredients; cinnamon stick, orange infusion and the following essential oils – clove bud, Brazilian orange, and tangerine. Jolly’s scent is a strange one – (by strange I don’t mean it is unpleasant) it’s just very different from what I am used to from Lush.

Jolly’s scent is in my opinion, incredibly complex. My nose picks up on several different things all at once. One part of its scent is a mouth-wateringly juicy orange then another is spicy because of the clove bud oil in it, it reminds me of chewing gum or some type of toothpaste.

Its scent is both warming and refreshing. As I said earlier Jolly’s consistency is thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up in your hands easily and the warmth from the cinnamon and clove bud oils really comes through when mixed with the hot water and steam of the shower.

I will admit that I wasn’t blown away with Jolly when I sniffed it straight from the bottle, some aspects of it I found incredibly moreish and others I wasn’t so sure. Its scent did however grow on me once I’d tried it in the shower. My husband has requested a bottle for Christmas and another for his birthday which tells me he’s keen on it!

Jolly’s scent although very subtle can be detected on your skin once you’re out of the shower. It also leaves my skin soft and warm making it perfect for cold Winter months. It also cleanses my skin well and leaves it hydrated enough to get away with not moisturising after your shower.

While the Jolly shower gel hasn’t got me as excited as past Winter shower gels such as Cinders, Hot Toddy and Calacas, it has grown on me the more I have used it. I don’t think it will be the most popular out of the 2 new shower gels in the Winter line (we have been given the brand-new Plum Duff shower gel too) but it is the more Christmassy of the 2.

It’s rare for a shower gel outside of Snow Fairy to make an appearance two years in a row/year-in-year-out. I would love to see Jolly come back but know that Lush love a one-hit-wonder product, especially when it comes to their Winter-product line ups.

Plum Duff Shower Gel from Lush

The Plum Duff Shower Gel has just been released as a part of Lush’s 2021 Winter line. It’s a brand-new product but not a brand-new scent. The Plum Duff scent has been brought back to life in this shower gel, I have only ever experienced it before in a sugar scrub format, several years ago.

Plum Duff is a rich, dark purple and has a thick but easy to get out of the bottle consistency. Colour and consistency wise it is very similar to the Plum Rain shower gel, apart from the colour, consistency and the word ‘Plum’ appearing in both of their names, this is the only things the shower gels have in common. Plum Rain and Plum Duff are not the same scent.

Plum Duff contains both cedarwood and tangerine oil as well as raisin infusion and benzoin resinoid.

Plum Duff’s scent is a gentle one with fruity and woody elements. The cedarwood rounds off the sweet and zestyness of the tangerine oil while the  benzoin resinoid adds an earthiness. Apparently, its name was inspired by a Christmas pudding, although I don’t know which one as I always eat chocolate puddings at Christmas!

As I said earlier Plum Duff’s consistency is thick but not so thick it’s hard to get out of the bottle. It lathers up in your hands easily and the fruity side of it really shines through when mixed with the hot water and steam of the shower.

I will admit that I wasn’t blown away with Plum Duff when I sniffed it straight from the bottle, but it grew on me once I’d tried it in the shower. Its scent although delicate did perk me up somewhat and a very small amount of it goes a very long way.

I couldn’t smell the Plum Duff shower gel on my skin once I got out of the shower, even when I over-indulged, using more than needed it didn’t seem to last. It did however leave my skin softer, almost as if the shower gel had an invisible exfoliant in. It cleanses skin well and leaves it hydrated enough to get away with not moisturising after your shower.

While the Plum Duff shower gel hasn’t got me as excited as past Winter shower gels such as Bubbly, Hot Toddy and Calacas, it did grow on me the more I used it. I can see it selling well to customers that prefer a more gentle scented shower gel.

In my opinion it isn’t very Christmassy either so I imagine it would also be popular with customers that aren’t quite ready to embrace Christmas 2021 just yet…

Slammer Shower Gel from Lush

The Slammer Shower Gel is an old Lush favourite that the subscribers of the Lush Kitchen box were reintroduced to when it made an appearance several boxes ago. When the Lush Kitchen did weekly menus between 2014 and 2017 the Slammer shower gel was frequently featured so I was very pleased to see that it was back and had finally earned a place in one of the new-style-Lush-Kitchen monthly subscription boxes!

Slammer shower gel is full of energy boosting ingredients, it is the perfect shower gel to use in the morning to help fuel an early-morning start AND (although I don’t drink alcohol so cannot say this from personal experience) it is also said to be really good to use when you’ve got a dreaded hangover.

Slammer has a long list of ingredients; Lime peel, ginger root infusion, fresh sea water straight from Poole, fresh lime juice and lime and lemon oils. The old version of Slammer shower gel did have honey in but this most recent release was 100% vegan which I know caused a lot of excitement within the Lush Community.

The Slammer shower gels scent is refreshing and bright, the lime and lemon in it make it incredibly zingy, it also has a slightly spicy bite thanks to the ginger root infusion. It smells delicious, almost good enough to eat but please don’t eat it, as tempting as it is!

Consistency wise it’s ever-so-slightly runny but not so bad that you accidently lose most of it trying to put it in your hands ready to lather. A little amount of it goes a very long way and it lathers up easily – my husband really likes to use it after work (instead of first thing in the morning) he has quite a physically demanding job and can get really dirty, he says Slammer lifts off anything stubborn left on his skin easy-peasy, he says it is much better than any other Lush shower gel. A bold statement indeed!

The scent really comes alive when used in the shower too, the heat of the water and the steam really intensifies it, its scent fills your bathroom and it stays on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day.

I have really missed the Slammer shower gel, it not only smells good but also leaves your skin positively glowing. This shower gel really needs to come back as a staple store product, even if just for a season!
