Sleepy Shower Gel from Lush

Sleepy Shower Gel.png

The Sleepy Shower Gel is yet another product that is a member of the Lush-Scent-Family, Twilight. The Twilight scent is one of Lush’s most popular and it has been adapted into so many product formats over the years that it’s hard to keep track of them all.

Just to confuse us, Lush sometimes bring out a product that shares a scent with another BUT names it something completely different. ‘Sleepy’ is another branch of Twilight scented products, alongside this new shower gel Lush also have a Sleepy body lotion and a Sleepy shower bomb too.

We already have Twilight shower gel so as happy as I was to see another adaptation of a Twilight scented product I did wonder if we actually needed it. The blame of my Lush addiction rests entirely on the shoulders of Twilight scented products (so no pressure Sleepy shower gel!)

The Twilight bath bomb was my very first experience of the Twilight/Sleepy scent. Sleepy shower gel like all of the other Twilight scented products contain lavender and tonka absolute, making it one of the most relaxing blends of soothing ingredients currently available. It’s perfect to use just before bed, hence the name ‘Sleepy’. As an insomniac anything with ‘Sleep’ in its name will always appeal to me.

On scent alone, if I was blind folded and asked to identify which shower gel was which out of Twilight and Sleepy, I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference. Scent wise both formulas are both just as ‘Twilight’ as the other, what sets the 2 apart is the fact Sleepy shower gel has an additional ingredient of oat milk.

The oat milk is what gives Sleepy the creamy consistency and complexion. I suspect Lush didn’t name Sleepy a shower cream because people would have compared it to Oaty Creamy Dreamy too much. Even though Lush have called Sleepy a shower gel, in my eyes it’s more of a shower cream.

Sleepy shower gel lathers up easily and a little of it goes a very long way too. This is something I always like in a shower gel, after all who doesn’t like getting more for their money?

Colour wise the gel is (according to Lush’s website) meant to be a very pale shade of purple, I think it looks more grey though. Once out of the bottle its shade does appear brighter with a slight hint of lilac, once lathered up it however goes back to appearing very grey. Not that its colour hinders its quality at all!

Is the Sleepy shower gel better on my skin in comparison to Twilight shower gel? Yes and no. If you look at it from a scent perspective then I can’t see a difference in the two, I would however say that Sleepy is much more soothing on the skin, the lavender and oat milk are a magical pairing of ingredients especially if you have very dry skin like me.

Ghost in the Dark Soap from Lush

Ghost in the Dark Soap

When I found out that Lush were bringing out a Halloween soap that not only glows in the dark (see below photo) but also shares its scent with the Avobath bath bomb, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.

When the Ghost in the Dark Soap arrived on my doorstep I was pleasantly surprised at how big it was, it fits more than snuggly in my hand. I was also very pleased with how much it mirrored the aforementioned bath bombs scent, Avobath. With my eyes closed I’m not sure I could tell them apart in a sniff test!

As Lush products go, I know the soaps aren’t always the most interesting items that Lush have to offer. With the Ghost in the Dark soap having the ability to glow in the dark, a whole new level of fun has come to a no-longer-simple bar of soap. The first question everyone asks when they realise that this bar of soap actually really does glow in the dark is, ‘HOW?!!’

The magic ingredient is called luminescent zinc sulfide. I was going to do a whole paragraph on it but then I remembered who I was and how bad I was at Chemistry at school, I have therefore linked up to Lush’s website (here) as I think it would be better all round to let the experts explain the science behind it.

Rich with mood and energy boosting ingredients such as lemongrass and bergamot oils, a quick wash with a bar of Ghost in the Dark will banish away any early morning fatigue you may be feeling; Sharpening your senses and leaving you alert and ready to face the day.

Although I have only used this soap on my hands so far, (I don’t normally use bars of soap anywhere else as my skin is notoriously fussy) it does lather very quickly and it’s really hydrating too, something I never expect from a bar of soap as they normally dry my skin out.

Overall I think the Ghost in the Dark soap is a fantastic addition to Lush’s Halloween line. It has certainly helped me get through the darker Winter mornings, I have also used it several times now and although it has shrunk a tiny bit, I can see it’s going to last for quite some time making it excellent value for money.

The fact it glows in the dark adds a novelty factor to it too,  I imagine this has helped it sell as it’s quite the unique selling point!

I have very much enjoyed exploring the Avobath scent in the soap format. I have my fingers crossed that Lush use this scent again very soon as it really is a life saver in the mornings when you’re feeling groggy.

Ectoplasm Shower Scream from Lush

Ectoplasm Shower Scream

After yet another Lush Halloween line without my beloved Calacas shower gel there was a lot riding on the shoulders of the brand new Ectoplasm Shower Cream ‘Scream’. Sharing its name with the Ectoplasm jelly bomb I was very excited to give it a try. The first thing anyone notices about the Ectoplasm shower cream is definitely its shade of colour, its fluorescent yellow formula demands to be seen.

The Ectoplasm shower cream is supposedly from the same scent family as the Ectoplasm jelly bomb, it however carries itself quite differently in the shower cream format. Much like its jelly bomb equivalent, the Ectoplasm shower cream contains tangerine, grapefruit and litsea cubeba oil.

When I smell the shower cream straight from the bottle, I feel as if its scent is more tropical than that of the jelly bomb, I feel like there’s almost a pineapple element to it. I’d actually go as far as to say that I prefer the Ectoplasm scent in the shower cream format, it’s a beautifully haunting fruity affair.

Consistency wise the Ectoplasm shower cream is gloriously creamy-thick. It is however very easy to get out of the bottle, while also not being so runny that you accidentally get out a little too much prior to its use.

Once the steam of the hot shower blends with the Ectoplasm shower cream its scent really takes hold. Its gentle zest packs a subtle sharpness, just the right amount of lemony-freshness to help lift and refresh your spirits.

Although I found that the Ectoplasm shower cream wasn’t great at making much of a lather it did still leave my skin feeling refreshed, clean and delicately scented. A little amount of it goes a long way and with its wonderfully inviting scent it’s very easy to over indulge on.

As I expect from a shower cream as apposed to a shower gel, the Ectoplasm shower cream is super hydrating on my skin. It’s nice to have a product that doesn’t leave your skin bone-dry, it hydrates your skin while also not leaving it oily. This is a huge plus for me when using the Ectoplasm shower cream.

As said above, a small amount of the shower cream goes a very long way. I found a 2p-coin-sized amount more than enough to spread out and use on the whole of my body.

Overall I am very pleased to add the Ectoplasm shower cream to my shelf of Lush shower gel and creams, I wasn’t expecting to like it quite as much as I do which has come as a pleasant surprise. It’s actually the first seasonal shower gel that I’ve bought more than one bottle of in a very long time, I definitely recommend grabbing a bottle before the Halloween season is over.
