Fiona Shower Gel from Lush

This March, Lush released yet another influx of collaboration products and I’ve never been more excited with a collection.

The small but impressive line that was released online yesterday (25th of March 2024) is inspired by no other than the Shrek franchise!

Each of the brand-new products from the Lush X Shrek collection are said to celebrate everyone’s inner-swampy-self and contrasts with the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic of recent years.

Ahead of the products online release, I was lucky enough to be gifted most of the line by Lush. thanks again Lush, you’ve made my month with this surprise box of Shrek goodies!

As you can see from the photos I have included in this review, the Fiona shower gel has such an incredibly detailed product label featuring princess Fiona’s face as a human and as an ogre.

Lush were wise to use these types of visuals on their packaging for this line, I know Lush would prefer no packaging for their products at all but I feel that a huge part of this shower gels appeal is the beautiful art on its bottle.

The almost glowing neon green Fiona Shower Gel contains fine sea salt, fresh cucumber juice, mango leaf absolute, violet leaf absolute, Persian lime oil and buchu oil.

Its scent is brand new to Lush and is described on their website as a ‘fragrant fairytale blend’.

As soon as you take the shower gels lid off, you’re hit with an apple and mango fragrance. The more you sniff the more that seems to come through. Sniffing it straight from the bottle there’s also melon-like notes in it too.

Consistency wise, the Fiona shower gel is very easy to get out of the bottle, it’s a fairly translucent green, reminding me of stained glass (which happens to be featured in quite a famous scene in the Shrek movie!)

The Fiona shower gel is slightly less thick than the likes of the Luigi shower gel (another green shower gel from Lush’s past) I’m guessing this looser consistency is because of the fresh cucumber juice in it.

Although I have said that the consistency of this shower gel is looser it is by no means runny. A very small amount of the Fiona shower gel goes a long way too which is always a plus with Lush products.

What I wasn’t expecting with the Fiona shower gel was how its scent seemed to develop once mixed in with the hot water and steam of the shower.

The Fiona shower gel lathers up easily and during use you’re hit with several more layers of scent notes. The first new note that I noticed was lime-like, it seems to blend with the apple in it giving it a sour-apple edge.

The more I lathered up the shower gel the more I could smell, there’s a freshly cut grass element to it and the cucumber in it really comes through too.

After use, my skin not only appears brighter but is left feeling super clean and hydrated. The scent lingers on your skin for a good few hours too.

Overall, I love the Fiona shower gel; The scent captures princess Fiona as a character so well and the best news is, there’s a body spray equivalent! I promise to get a review of the body spray up in the next few days.

I hope this isn’t the last we see of this fresh and fruity Lush fragrance, I’d love to see it in other product formats in the future.

Shrek Swamp Bath Bomb from Lush

This March Lush have hit us with, yet another influx of collaboration products and I’ve never been more excited with a collection.

The new mini line that came out online today is inspired by no other than DreamWorks Animations’ Shrek franchise.

The brand-new products from the Lush X Shrek collection celebrate everyone’s inner swampy self and contrasts with the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic of recent years.

Ahead of the products website release, I was lucky enough to be gifted most of the line by Lush. thanks again Lush, you’ve made my month with this surprise box of Shrek goodies!

The Shrek Swamp Bath Bomb is the first of the products from the Lush X Shrek collaboration that I tried, and it did not disappoint.

Shrek Swamp is a mixture of two colours, bright green and chocolate brown and has a big green ‘S’ on its top, ogre ears and all.

Shrek Swamp is the perfect bath bomb to turn your bath water into swamp-bathwater, I’m positive that Shrek and every other ogre in the world would be proud of it.

The Shrek Swamp bath bomb contains pine oil, vetitvert oil, peppermint oil, cocoa absolute, cocoa powder, carrageenan extract, Fullers earth, rhassoul mud, arame seaweed and dried oakmoss.

Scent wise, before using the Shrek Swamp bath bomb my nose can detect the peppermint in it, the cocoa powder gives it a chocolatey layer as well.

The dried oakmoss and pine oil adds a foresty like layer to its scent too. In ways this part of the bath bomb reminds me of a mixture of the Lakes bath bomb mixed with some Grass shower gel.

When the Shrek Swamp bath bomb first encounters your bath water there is an explosion of green froth, slowly bubbling away. Not long after placing it into the water, brown froth begins to spill out of it too.

Slowly but surely, little bits of dried oakmoss and arame seaweed breaks free from the bath bomb filling your bath with swamp debris.

At this point I’d like to point out that if you don’t enjoy floating pieces in your bath water it would be best to use the Shrek Swamp bath bomb in a sock or stocking. That way, any floating debris will stay in that sock or stocking, but you’ll still get all the benefits from the ingredients.

For example the arame seaweed will still soften the water you just won’t have it loose in the water.

I don’t mind the ‘swamp life’ and used the Shrek Swamp bath bomb as it was designed, to get the true ogre, swamp experience.

Clean up with products like this is always a huge topic amongst customers. But luckily for you, I’ve used thousands of bath bombs so know a thing or two about them and how to ensure clean up isn’t hard work…

Every bath bomb you use will leave some sort of residue in your bathtub IF it has any soap scum in (even the invisible bits you can’t easily see).

I recommend running a sponge with dish soap on it around your tub after each use, this cuts and wipes away any stubborn grease or residue that may be left behind, even the left-over bits you can’t see.

Doing this followed by a quick rinse makes the world of difference when using bath bombs.

I do feel like I need to point out that you should bear in mind that this bath bomb is to create swamp like water though; It’s not an ordinary bath bomb, it’s swamp chic not ‘clean girl’ chic!

Once in the hot water the scent of the Shrek Swamp bath bomb seems to change a little bit, the chocolate aspect seems to disappear and a new layer of scent seems to come through, there’s an almost smoky, slightly spicy air to it, it’s subtle but definitely there.

The peppermint and pine oil in it really shines through during use, filling your bath bomb with its forest-fresh fragrance.

It takes a good 5 minutes for the Shrek Swamp bath bomb to fully dissolve, and the water left behind is heavily fragranced and the exact shade of green that Shrek is.

The scent of the Shrek Swamp bath bomb lasted on my skin for the rest of the day, I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and hydrated it left my skin too.

As I said earlier, I didn’t use the bath bomb in a stocking, so I did have swamp debris in with me in the tub. The larger bits were very easy to fish out and place in the bin and the smaller bits went down the plug hole no problem.

The Shrek Swamp bath bomb does contain skin-loving Fullers earth and rhassoul mud so you will need to rinse your bath out after using it BUT if you stick with my sponge and dish soap trick, the rinse will take only seconds instead of several minutes.

Overall, I’m so in love with the Shrek Swamp bath bomb, it’s so well thought out and my skin adored soaking up all of its ingredients.

I can’t wait to review the other Shrek stock!

Humbug Bath Bomb from Lush

Back in September 2022, Lush did a collaboration with The Poetry Pharmacy, the three bath bombs created for this super-unique line have sold well and (at the time of writing this review) are currently still available to purchase.

Come November 2023, The Poetry Pharmacy and Lush created another product to add to their collaboration, the Humbug Bath Bomb.

The Poetry Pharmacy is an original Victorian shop in the heart of a little town in Shropshire Hills. In store you will find The Poetry Pharmacy’s pharmacist on hand to prescribe poetic medicine for a complicated mix of emotions. For a deeper insight into what the, The Poetry Pharmacy get up to, please visit their website by clicking here.

The Humbug bath bomb has been released just in time for Christmas. Unlike the previous Lush X Poetry Pharmacy bath bombs Wild RemedyBroken Heart and Slow Down; The Humbug bath bomb is only available from the Poetry Pharmacy store, the Poetry Pharmacy website and from the Lush X Poetry Pharmacy pop up shop in Soho, London.

As I mentioned earlier, the bath bombs made in collaboration with the Poetry Pharmacy are truly unique to anything Lush have released before. Each of the bath bombs have a hidden paper insert inside of them with a short poem on it relating to the bath bombs name.

The Poetry Pharmacy website says that the Humbug bath bomb ‘features poetic extracts’ as an ‘antidote to Christmas spirit at its heart’ and claims that as it fizzes away, it ‘reveals not the usual yuletide joy, but the scepticism of a holiday cynic, transforming your tub into a refuge for those who question the tinsel-draped traditions.’

Colour wise and to look at, the Humbug bath bomb looks just like a black and white Humbug sweet. The idea behind the poetry bath bombs is that they are an easy way to immerse yourself in perfume and poetics.

This strong scented, black, and white bath bomb was created to give those with the grinchiest of hearts a scented sanctuary in the subversion of Christmas spirit. I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas so this bath bomb really does speak to my soul…

Ingredients wise the Humbug bath bomb contains both cassia and clove bud oils. It reminds me of the red cinnamon-ball-sweets I used to eat when I was still at school. I’m not even sure if those sweets are made anymore but as soon as I smelt the Humbug bath bomb, I knew I’d love it.

The scent is sweet (in as much as cinnamon can be deemed as sweet) yet spicy and probably my most favourite cinnamon-based product Lush have ever created. I need this bath bombs scent made into every product format that exists. It’s delicious, warm and everything you can need in a Winter-time bath bomb.

As soon as you put the Humbug bath bomb into the water you are greeted with a gentle hiss of bubbles, white and grey foam slowly erupt from the bath bomb. As it dissolves you can see that the black parts of the bath bomb are not black and are actually a really dark green.

I wasn’t expecting much bath art from the Humbug bath bomb but it did create some beautiful grey and white swirls.

I was surprised that the Humbug bath bomb took so long to fully dissolve, it was still fizzing away 10 minutes after putting it in to the bath water. Once it had dissolved, I had access to the hidden poem inside of it (if you want to see the poem, I got I have posted it on my Instagram).

I am unsure on how many different poems are put in each of the bath bombs butthink there are several different ones shared in the Humbug bath bomb.

A soak in a Humbug bath is a real treat, I know I am repeating myself, but it really is delicious, warm and everything I look for in a bath bomb, especially at this time of the year.

My skin laps up the silky-smooth, super warming bath water and it feels amazing on my aching muscles after a long day. It makes for a truly relaxing bathing experience. The scent lasts for days too, I could still smell it in my bathroom the day after using it.

Overall, I think this is my favourite bath bomb from both of the Lush X Poetry Pharmacy collaborations. I hope Lush decide to do more with the Poetry Pharmacy as I’ve enjoyed every product they’ve collaborated on so far. I also hope they make this bath bomb more readily available, so more customers get to try it too.
