Catch Me If You Can Bath Bomb from Lush

The Catch Me If You Can Bath Bomb first became available as a part of 2023’s Winter line.

Both its name and design are inspired by the Gingerbread Man fairy tale.

As the fairy tale says, the Gingerbread man-shaped-biscuit comes to life as soon as the oven door it was baked in opens. He doesn’t want to be eaten so runs for his life while shouting over his shoulder ‘Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me. I’m the Gingerbread man!’ 

When Lush create character products, it always makes them a little more difficult to use.

The Catch Me If You Can bath bomb is shaped into the perfect little gingerbread man. With big beady eyes and smile to match, two big buttons and little arms and legs.

The Catch Me If You Can bath bomb is covered in golden shimmer and underneath the shimmering gold layer are further layers of green, yellow and blue.

The Catch Me If You Can bath bomb shares its scent with the Golden Wonder bath bomb from Christmas lines of the past.

Being honest as always, the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb is pretty much just a reimagined version of the Golden Wonder bath bomb. If you liked Golden Wonder, it’s worth giving the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb a go.

The best way to describe the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb’s scent is a tangy citrus with a warm, boozy punch, think orange juice mixed with bubbly champagne!

Ingredients wise, it contains sweet wild orange oil, lime oil and ginger powder.

Each Catch Me If You Can bath bomb is only 80g each making it one of Lush’s smallest bath bombs to date.

Before the Golden Wonder bath bomb was discontinued as a Winter product the price of it had shot up a great deal each year, I think this is probably why Lush have condensed the bath bomb so much, creating Catch Me If You Can as a smaller alternative.

As soon as the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb meets your bath water you are greeted with a burst of blue, green and yellow foam.

As the water takes over the bath bomb, the golden shimmer on the top layers of the bath bomb slowly starts to spread into the water too.

Considering its size, I was surprised to see that The Catch Me If You Can bath bomb took just over 15 minutes to fully dissolve!

This is much longer than most Lush bath bombs. The colourful bath art left behind by the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb is so much better in person, unfortunately this time of year leaves me with ridiculously bad lighting so the photos in this review do the bath bomb no justice at all.

Nearer the end of its time in the water the bath art it created reminded me of the Fizzbanger bath bomb with it mostly being yellow and blue. The bath water at the end was an almost neon green. Again, just like Fizzbanger.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb.

The scent could have been a little stronger, it had almost completely faded long before I was ready to get out of the bath. I am guessing this is because of the bath bombs smaller size.

My skin did feel soft after using the Catch Me If You Can bath bomb but again, the scent wasn’t detectable on my skin at all. The bath did however leave me feeling warm and relaxed.

I would love to see this bath bomb come back (with a stronger fragrance) but have learnt to not get too attached to any Wintertime Lush bath bomb as they rarely make a reappearance the year after their first release. I have my fingers crossed this bath bomb isn’t yet again just a one-hit-wonder!

Humbug Bath Bomb from Lush

Back in September 2022, Lush did a collaboration with The Poetry Pharmacy, the three bath bombs created for this super-unique line have sold well and (at the time of writing this review) are currently still available to purchase.

Come November 2023, The Poetry Pharmacy and Lush created another product to add to their collaboration, the Humbug Bath Bomb.

The Humbug bath bomb has been released just in time for Christmas. Unlike the previous Lush X Poetry Pharmacy bath bombs Wild Remedy, Broken Heart and Slow Down; The Humbug bath bomb is only available from the Poetry Pharmacy store, the Poetry Pharmacy website and from the Lush X Poetry Pharmacy pop up shop in Soho, London.

As I mentioned earlier, the bath bombs made in collaboration with the Poetry Pharmacy are truly unique to anything Lush have released before. Each of the bath bombs have a hidden paper insert inside of them with a short poem on it relating to the bath bombs name.

The Poetry Pharmacy website says that the Humbug bath bomb ‘features poetic extracts’ as an ‘antidote to Christmas spirit at its heart’ and claims that as it fizzes away, it ‘reveals not the usual yuletide joy, but the scepticism of a holiday cynic, transforming your tub into a refuge for those who question the tinsel-draped traditions.’

Colour wise and to look at, the Humbug bath bomb looks just like a black and white Humbug sweet. The idea behind the poetry bath bombs is that they are an easy way to immerse yourself in perfume and poetics.

This strong scented, black, and white bath bomb was created to give those with the grinchiest of hearts a scented sanctuary in the subversion of Christmas spirit. I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas so this bath bomb really does speak to my soul…

Ingredients wise the Humbug bath bomb contains both cassia and clove bud oils. It reminds me of the red cinnamon-ball-sweets I used to eat when I was still at school. I’m not even sure if those sweets are made anymore but as soon as I smelt the Humbug bath bomb, I knew I’d love it.

The scent is sweet (in as much as cinnamon can be deemed as sweet) yet spicy and probably my most favourite cinnamon-based product Lush have ever created. I need this bath bombs scent made into every product format that exists. It’s delicious, warm and everything you can need in a Winter-time bath bomb.

As soon as you put the Humbug bath bomb into the water you are greeted with a gentle hiss of bubbles, white and grey foam slowly erupt from the bath bomb. As it dissolves you can see that the black parts of the bath bomb are not black and are actually a really dark green.

I wasn’t expecting much bath art from the Humbug bath bomb but it did create some beautiful grey and white swirls.

I was surprised that the Humbug bath bomb took so long to fully dissolve, it was still fizzing away 10 minutes after putting it in to the bath water. Once it had dissolved, I had access to the hidden poem inside of it (if you want to see the poem, I got I have posted it on my Instagram). 

I am unsure on how many different poems are put in each of the bath bombs butthink there are several different ones shared in the Humbug bath bomb.

A soak in a Humbug bath is a real treat, I know I am repeating myself, but it really is delicious, warm and everything I look for in a bath bomb, especially at this time of the year.

My skin laps up the silky-smooth, super warming bath water and it feels amazing on my aching muscles after a long day. It makes for a truly relaxing bathing experience. The scent lasts for days too, I could still smell it in my bathroom the day after using it.

Overall, I think this is my favourite bath bomb from both of the Lush X Poetry Pharmacy collaborations. I hope Lush decide to do more with the Poetry Pharmacy as I’ve enjoyed every product they’ve collaborated on so far. I also hope they make this bath bomb more readily available, so more customers get to try it too.

Lump of Coal Bath Bomb from Lush

The Lump of Coal Bath Bomb first became available as a part of Lush’s Christmas 2023 line. As Christmas tradition goes, if you’re on Santa’s naughty list you’re more than likely to end up with a lump of coal and not much else for Christmas.

I must admit that I wouldn’t be at all disappointed if I found the Lump of Coal bath bomb in my Christmas stocking… The Lump of Coal bath bomb looks just as its name suggests, like a lump of coal. If you look closely, you can see that each of the Lump of Coal bath bombs has a cheeky looking smiley face on them.

An actual lump of coal is probably the last thing you’d ever think about putting in the bath with you and I know some people are filled with horror at the thought of using a black product in their clean white bath (somewhere they visit to GET CLEAN) but I’m here to let you know that there’s no need to panic at all!

With every bath bomb (even the light-coloured ones) I do recommend using them in a clean bath as any bath bomb colour will cling to residue left in the tub (even the almost invisible stuff like soap scum.) If you do find yourself in a situation where a simple rinse with the shower head doesn’t work, my secret weapon is dish washer soap.

A sponge, hot water and dish washer soap cuts through grime and grease fantastically, I actually use a splash of it to clean my bathtub a few times a week as it works so well. I would like to stress that I didn’t get any mess left behind at all by the Lump of Coal bath bomb, but I thought this tip was worth a mention just in case! Please keep on reading this review as there’s more to the Lump of Coal bath bomb than first meets the eye…

The Lump of Coal bath bomb is one of Lush’s smaller bath bombs, I didn’t realise until I had, had it delivered that each of them were only 90g each. For comparison purposes this means the Lump of Coal bath bomb is a little bit smaller than the Butterball and Groovy Fairy bath bombs.

Even though the Lump of Coal bath bomb is small, its scent still packs a punch. The Lump of Coal bath bomb shares its scent with the Hot Toddy shower gel and Cinnamon Roll bubble bar. It includes the following ingredients: cinnamon leaf oil, clove leaf oil and Brazilian orange oil.

It’s the perfect Winter fragrance, the best way I can describe it is as very similar to fizzy cola bottle sweets with a side helping of something warm and spicy, it’s almost like a mulled wine, sweet but incredibly toasty.

As soon as the Lump of Coal bath bomb comes into contact with your bath water a burst of black foam spills out of it. Slowly you start to see that the black pigment is actually a combination of very dark greens and dark blues.

After just under 2 minutes, a thin line of gold foam starts to slowly trickle out of the Lump of Coal bath bomb too. 

As the bath bomb bobs around your bath, the trickle of gold slowly gets thicker. As it spins it creates gold, dark green and dark blue bath art. The photos I have included in this review do the Lump of Coal bath bomb no justice at all. The dark colours put up against the gold clash, making the most striking of bath-bomb-bath-art.

With the Lump of Coal bath bomb being so small I was expecting it to be a really quick fizzer, it however took a good 10 minutes to fully dissolve. The water left behind is full of so many warming ingredients that it left my skin feeling tingly and as if my muscles had, had tiny little hands massaging them.

My skin feels silky smooth, and the scent remained on my skin longer after I got out of the bath too.

Once the Lump of Coal bath bomb has fully dissolved, the bath water turns a very dark black with the most incredible amount of golden shimmer in it. I wish I could have got a photograph to show you just how beautiful the end water is. It’s one you really must see with your own eyes.

Overall, I absolutely adore the Lump of Coal bath bomb. Its smaller size didn’t hinder its scent quality or bath art potential. I know using darker coloured bath bombs can be a little daunting but if you follow my steps above there’s really nothing to worry about.

Lush are known for bringing most of their Christmas bath bombs out only once BUT I have my fingers crossed that this, most pleasant little lump-of-coal makes a return for next Christmas too. It’s that good!
