Northern Lights Soap from Lush

northern-lights-soap
When the Northern Lights Soap was last on the Lush Kitchen menu I couldn’t help but pick up a bar. Ever since I had very first used the old Northern Lights Bath Bomb I’d loved the scent.

The newer and updated version of the Northern Lights bath bomb is currently available everywhere as a part of the Winter 2016 product line. This had reunited me with the beautiful scent and of course I fell head over heels in love with it all over again. The chance to buy anything that shares its scent is currently my biggest Lush desire, whatever the format!

One of my favourite things about Lush is that you can enjoy their older scents in lots of different formats. Until this year the Northern Lights scent had been put at the back of the scent cupboard and I’m so pleased they’ve brought it back as it really is one of my all time favourites.

At first it took me a little while to get used to the Northern Lights scent, when it was first put in front of me I was almost convinced that it was too strong a scent for me. By the end of my very first Northern Lights bath I was however a super fan and desperate to try more.

There aren’t as many products in the Northern Lights scent family as I’d like. I hope in time its family will grow to the same size as the Calacas or Pop in the Bath scent… These things however take time so I will wait patiently enjoying the presence of the bath bomb and the soap for now.

As you can see the Northern Lights soap is quite the colourful eye sore, when I first unwrapped it from its Lush Kitchen wrapper it was basically glowing.

The fragrance that radiates from it is so hard to put into words, it’s slightly citrusy but just has a little more bite.

The soap itself seems to last forever, it lathers up very quickly and its scent remains just as strong. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of my skin after washing with it too.

Bars of soap normally dry out my skin but not Northern Lights. My skin wasn’t as hydrated as I like it after I’ve just used Lush but it also wasn’t so dry that I needed to cake myself in body lotion as soon as I had dried myself off…

Although it didn’t do a bad job on my body I think I’ll leave this one for washing my hands, unfortunately this is how I feel about all Lush soaps. I just find that soaps don’t help my skin look and feel its best in comparison to how the body conditioners or the shower creams do. This is why I rarely review soaps, Northern Lights had however impressed me enough to warrant me writing a whole post on it.

They really, really need to bring out a Northern Lights shower gel or jelly, that and a body lotion.

Wow, I’m totally hooked on its scent. I wish I’d have bought several of the bars now just so I could leave them around my house, the unique and dangerously addictive scent gets me every time.

Rudy Gift Set from Lush

I don’t normally buy the Lush gift sets however this year I haven’t been able to resist, I spotted them on my last trip to Lush Oxford Street and thought I’d treat myself to something different because why not?

Most of my Winter Lush purchases have been online so far this year, that or from the Creative Showcase back in September. I haven’t actually visited my local store for about 6 weeks… We have a world record right here… *shivers with withdrawal symptoms* I’ve just had so much going on with the wedding and have also been recovering from surgery so I just haven’t had the time or energy. I’m hoping I do get to pop into my local store on Tuesday though, I have my eye on several of the new brightly coloured paper bags! what better excuse for a top up of bath bombs?

Although the Rudy Gift Set looks more like a bunny rabbit to some, you can see it’s a reindeer if you try. With his red nose he is in fact the most important reindeer of them all, Rudolph!

Inside the Rudy  gift set is 1 Butterball bath bomb and 1 Shoot for the stars bath bomb.

Yes, buying the 2 bath bombs individually is slightly cheaper but I quite like the idea of presenting them in a knot wrap like this, it’s creative, different and sure to impress anyone as a Christmas gift.

Using a knot wrap instead of gift wrap helps the planet. I know there are different rules for different areas but where we live a very high percentage of the gift wrap used at Christmas just goes straight to landfill, I know this because my hubby-to-be is the manager of the local recycling center. A good 90% of wrapping paper cannot be recycled and it’s this time of year that we throw away the most.

Using knot wraps as an alternative to wrapping paper is a great solution to help the planet, buckling down on the over use of non recyclable waste is a step in the right direction for the world.

Knot wraps can be used time and time again. Tying them up may appear tricky but it is in fact very easy, there are hundreds of different ways of doing it, I learnt how to do them from just watching Youtube tutorials. It’s easy-peasy, lemon squeezy.

If you aren’t any good at stuff like that and the Youtube tutorials still have you puzzled do not worry as the Rudy gift set comes ready wrapped/knotted. If you did want to try doing one for yourself for someone else the shop assistants at Lush are always more than happy to help you knot-wrap your Lush goodies.

As mentioned above the 2 bath bombs included in the Rudy gift set are the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb and the Butterball bath bomb.

To see the review on the Butterball bath bomb click here. Butterball is very similar to the Butterbear bath bomb but is sold all year round as opposed to the Butterbear bath bomb only being available in the winter months.

Overall I really like this gift set and I think it would make a very good present to someone who you want to turn into a Lushie or for a Lushie you already know of.

Cinders Bath Bomb from Lush

For such a small bath bomb Cinders has certainly left quite the impression on me. First and foremost it’s packed full of cinnamon, since Lush retired the Phoenix Rising bath bomb I have been struggling to get my bath bomb cinnamon fix.

Last year I stocked up on Cinders and still have 2 left in my big box of Lush. When I found out that Cinders wasn’t going to be making a return in Lush’s 2016 Winter line I wasn’t very pleased at all.

I’m not sure where my cinnamon obsession started, I think most probably the Fireball sweets I used to eat when I was at school. It’s literally the yummiest spice in the world. I love it on cake, in my hot chocolate and even more so in my bath. I deal with chronic pain on an everyday basis and bathing in a Cinders bath is the closest to relaxed I can ever be.

I have no shame in pointing out that the Cinders Bath Bomb isn’t ever going to win any bath art trophies. It does however have popping candy in which makes bath time with it a little more exciting.

Most people look for bath bombs searching for a colourful bath time show. There is however so much more to a bath bomb than its colours.

Once you start to look into the benefits of the ingredients of each Lush product that’s when you start to try products that are out of your comfort zone. I feel that Cinders is way out of a lot of peoples bath-bomb-comfort-zone because it is small and isn’t as visually pleasing as alternatives such as the Frozen bath bomb.

I always recommend trying a Lush product at least once as discovering you love a product you’d never thought you’d like makes it all the more fun.

Cinders is the same size as the Butterball and Think Pink bath bomb, tiny but mighty.

Yes Cinders is small and yes it’s a bit boring in the bath but it smells so good, to me it is Christmas in bath bomb form.

It leaves my skin soft and hydrated, and leaves a sweet musky spice scent on it that stays with me all day. Unlike any of the other cinnamon based products, Cinders has a sweeter edge to it which is why I favour it.

I know that Cinders leaves your bath water a rather unsatisfying colour, I quote, ‘AH IT LOOKS LIKE WEE!’ but the scent and how it warms my tired and achy muscles makes me forget and not care… Cinders does absolute wonders on my body and I really don’t know what I’m going to do now they are no longer a part of the Winter line!
