Prince Charming Shower Gel from Lush

Prince Charming Shower Gel

Lush’s 2020 Valentine’s Day line is already here and with that comes my first review of the year. The Prince Charming shower gel is a much loved retro-Lush-product. Long before I became an obsessive Lush-product-collector the Prince Charming shower gel graced Lush’s shelves, his reign covering the Valentine’s Day period for several years. In 2016 Lush decided to shake things up a bit and released Prince Charming in a shower cream format instead.

Fast forward to 2020 and after 2 years of no Prince Charming at all, Lush have brought it back BUT in its original format, a shower gel. Being honest as always, I have not experienced or found any huge differences between the 2 different formats but wanted to give the Prince Charming shower gel its own review regardless.

2020’s Prince Charming shower gel is a much deeper shade of red in comparison to the shower cream, it also has quite a lengthy ingredients list. It contains essential oils from grapefruit, sandalwood and geranium flowers as well as having a generous helping of fresh pomegranate juice and a blend of vanilla and marshmallow root infusions.

Living up to its name, the first word that comes to mind when I am trying to describe this shower gels scent is in fact, ‘charming’.

Its scent is often compared to the likes of the Yuzu and Cocoa shower cream. While I can pinpoint what people mean when comparing the two, I feel Prince Charming’s scent is a little more complex, having several more layers to it. I would describe Prince Charming’s scent as zesty with a hint of floral that is all rounded off and mellowed down by the blend of sweet vanilla and marshmallow roots.

Consistency wise, I think the Prince Charming shower gel is pretty close to perfect. It’s not so thick that you can hardly get it out of the bottle and not too thin that you lose it all at the slightest tip of the bottle. As I mentioned earlier, apart from the darker colour the Prince Charming shower gel is almost identical to the shower cream equivalent, so much so that I am wondering why Lush even bothered to brand it as a shower ‘gel’.

The Prince Charming shower gel goes a very long way, a blob the size of a 50p coin is more than enough to use to for the whole of your body. The scent really comes alive once you’ve got it all lathered up in the hot and steamy shower, it leaves my skin positively radiant. It not only appears brighter, it also feels smooth to the touch and I can smell its subtle fragrance on my skin for the rest of the day.

Overall I am really impressed with this shower gel, it has such an inviting scent, it’s the perfect Valentine’s shower time treat!

Boo! Shower Slime from Lush (2019 version)

Boo! Shower Slime

The first shower slimes were released in the Summer of 2019 so at the point of writing this review they are still a relatively new product from Lush. The product type itself is without question quite a conversation starter.

I have heard mixed reviews on the concept of shower slimes but interestingly enough, I have yet to hear a negative review from anyone who has actually given one or all of the shower slimes a go.

With a new season comes new Lush products; This September the Lush Halloween line was unleashed on the world and what a spectacularly spooky line it is… Boo! Shower Slime is the 3rd shower slime to have been released by Lush and with it being jet black, it fits right in with all-things-Halloween.

Before I had, had a chance to see its ingredients list I had imagined the Boo! shower slime to possibly share its scent with one of the year-in, year-out Halloween bath bombs the Lord of Misrule or Monsters’ Ball. I was (as always) wrong, the Boo! shower slime in fact shares its scent with the Bubblegum lip scrub, something I don’t think any of the Lush community were expecting at all.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Bubblegum lip scrubs scent it’s very similar (maybe a little bit sweeter but close enough to be considered the same scent family) to the Snow Fairy shower gels scent. This products scent decision was made by the shower-slime-product-inventor himself as he wanted it to give homage to a Halloween trick or treat haul.

Think sickly-sweet and all things sugar and candy floss. I’ll admit it isn’t my favourite fragrance from Lush’s extensive-scent-library and is normally reserved for Lush’s Christmas products BUT I thought I’d give it a go nevertheless. If anything it would at the least help me to get into the spirit of Halloween!

Shower slime IS very slime-like BUT it’s not that much different to a shower gel. In fact, you pretty much use it just as you would a shower gel. A small amount goes a very long  way making it great value for money. Lush shower slimes have quite a lot of cornflour in them which is what gives them that slightly thicker, milky-dough-like-consistency.

With just a bit of water the slime soon lathers up into something that resembles shower gel. Fear not, shower slimes will definitely not clog up your drains. The horrified-by-slime-people will also be very pleased to hear that Lush shower slimes are also NOT at all sticky.

The shower slime is actually quite fun to play around with and when you finally want to use it for its body-cleansing-purposes, lathers up just as good and as quickly as a shower gel does. One thing I love about Boo! is that it is not only extremely hydrating on your skin but also ever so slightly scrubby (as in super-duper gentle scrubby) which leaves your skin cleansed and magnificently smooth too.

I have not really mentioned anything else about the colour of the Boo! shower slime as in use it’s just like any other shower product from Lush. I was a bit weirded out at the idea of using a jet black shower product back when the Scrub Scrub Scrub shower scrub first came out BUT I had a brilliant experience with it, it left me completely open minded about using the ever-growing list of strangely-popular black Lush products.

I have found that when it comes down to the black products, customers either get really excited about trying them or they freak out asking why you would use such a product in the bath or shower (a place you go in to get clean not dirtier). Boo! however does exactly what I would want any cleansing shower product to do. After using it I am clean and refreshed, no ‘black marks’ are left on me and there isn’t any clean up to do in the shower either.

Although scent wise the Boo! shower slime isn’t my favourite, I enjoyed using it very much. As I mentioned above it left my skin clean, hydrated and unexpectedly smooth so I was more than satisfied in that respect. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try before it’s too late… Hurry! There’s only a few days left until Halloween! 👻💀🎃

Goddess Shower Gel from Lush

I can’t quite believe how quickly the last 12 months have flown by. A year a go this month, Lush introduced us to what was one of 2018’s most popular products, the Goddess bath bomb. Earlier this year (2019) Lush decided to create a Goddess bath bomb shower-gel-equivalent, the Goddess Shower Gel!

Containing jasmine, sandalwood, rose and oudh oil you’d think that the Goddess shower gel would have quite a hefty-floral-scent, it is in fact one of Lush’s most gentle fragrances yet. Although very subtle, Goddess’s scent is as I predicted, VERY floral; The sandalwood and oudh however add a sweet-woody-layer to the jasmine giving its floral scent a warm and comforting edge.

I’d say that the Goddess shower gels scent is pretty-true to the bath bomb, I can however detect a small difference, the woody-scent-layer seems to have a peppery twist in it giving it a little more clout than the bath bomb.

To look at, the Goddess shower gel is a similar shade to the very much loved, Twilight shower gel. It however is a lot more shimmery. In the photo above I have tried my hardest to capture just how beautiful the lustre in it is, the photo does it no justice at all.

Consistency wise Goddess shower gel is a lot creamier than I had expected, this is by no means a negative. It is not so thick that you can hardly get it out of the bottle and not too thin that you lose it all at the slightest tip of the bottle. A little amount of the shower gel goes a VERY LONG way. It lathers up quickly and is oh-so-creamy.

Its scent once in the shower does intensify ever so slightly but again it’s still a rather subtle scent. I find it quite hydrating on the skin too. The fact it is so creamy and hydrating leads me to see it as more of a shower cream than a shower gel.

Just like the Goddess bath bomb I found that  the Goddess shower gels scent didn’t last on my skin for very long. While I am not a huge fan of floral scents, this isn’t a negative factor for me, I can however see the customers who are head-over-heels-in-love with the Goddess-scent-family maybe being a little disappointed with this.

Although I haven’t fallen in love with the Goddess shower gel in quite the same way as I have the Intergalactic shower gel (another shower gel that was released on the same day) I am glad I have tried it.

It seems to be one of the most popular of the latest limited-edition shower-gel-releases and while I’ve not heard anything about it becoming a main line product in the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did! ☺️
