Supernova Bath Bomb from Lush

Another day, another retro Lush product review… Today I will be reviewing the Supernova Bath Bomb. It was most recently available as one of the exclusive items in the May 2023 Lush Kitchen subscription box.

During the old format of the Lush Kitchen’s 3 year reign, the Supernova bath bomb made regular appearances. I’ve been waiting ever since the Lush Kitchen subscription boxes started for it to appear and finally in box 36, it did!

The Supernova bath bomb is bright pink and laced with paper confetti. The confetti makes it similar in design to the Dragon’s Egg bath bomb, although, Supernova has a lot more confetti in and the confetti in it is paper, Dragon’s Eggs confetti is more of a jelly in the water.

Supernova shares its scent with all of the products in the Celebrate scent family. Most recent product releases that share its scent include the Celebrate foaming body scrubTea Party bath bomb and the NEW Golden Pudding bath bomb.

Alongside copious amounts of paper confetti the Supernova bath bomb also contains, sweet wild orange oil, lime oil and wine lees oil. Older versions of it (which I think smelt boozier) contained plenty of cognac oil instead of wine lees.

Lush fragrances are often hard to describe but the Celebrate scent family smells just like its name. A real celebration. The Supernova bath bombs scent is warm and bubbly. The sweet wild orange and lime oils come together giving off a champagne like scent, hence the word ‘celebrate’.

As soon as the Supernova bath bomb comes into contact with your bath water there is an explosion of bright pink foam. As the Supernova bath bomb bobs around the bright pink foam starts to pale and little pieces of confetti begin to burst out of it, spreading out upon the surface of the water.

The Supernova bath bomb is quite a messy bath bomb because of the confetti but it’s not hard to clean away as it dissolves just like the bath bomb, a quick blast of water and it’s like it was never there.

It takes a good 10 minutes for the Supernova bath bomb to fully dissolve. The water left behind is a clear but very bright pink.

I find the hotter the water the quicker and easier it is for the confetti to disappear; I’ve said it’s a little messy in this review but as long as you use it in a clean bath it really isn’t something that should put you off of at least trying it once.

The orange and lime rich scent lasts right up until the last drop of water goes down the plug hole. It does leave my skin a little dryer than I’d like but the scent remains on your skin for several hours after exiting the bath.

If you’re lucky enough to own some Celebrate body lotion and Celebrate body spray, I totally recommended using them both after a Supernova bath. There’s nothing quite like layering up the same Lush scents from different products!

Overall, I do really like the Supernova bath bomb, it’s a fun take on a bath bomb equivalent of a celebration. It’s not my favourite Celebrate scented bath bomb but one I enjoy, nonetheless.

Bowser Shower Jelly from Lush

At the time of writing this review, Lush’s most recent collaboration with the, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is by far Lush’s most popular collaborations to date. Today I’m going to be reviewing one of the products from it, the Bowser Shower Jelly.

The Bowser shower jelly shares its scent with 2 of my favourite Winter-time products the Hot Toddy shower gel and Cinnamon Roll bubble bar. With me being such a fan of the fragrance already, I was really excited to get my hands on a pot.

Ingredients wise, the Bowser shower jelly contains star anise, cinnamon stick infusion, benzoin resinoid and the following essential oils, cinnamon leaf, clove leaf, lime, Brazilian orange and patchouli.

The Bowser shower jellies scent won’t be one that appeals to everyone, it is one of Lush’s most spiciest scent families, hence it normally only being available in products in the Winter.

In all honesty, when I very first experienced the scent many years ago, it took me a while to warm to it. What I like about it is how good it feels when you use it on tired, aching muscles. As someone who deals with wide-spread chronic pain every day it really is a magical combination of ingredients.

The scent is spicy because of the clove and cinnamon, but also has a sweetness to it because of the orange and lime mixed with the cinnamon. The ingredients are so warming on the skin, using it is like having hundreds of mini hands massaging all of your aches away.

The Bowser shower jelly is available in 2 different sized pots, 100g and 240g and is an orangey shade of red with a pinch of added golden sparkle!

There is no right or wrong way to use a shower jelly, I prefer to use mine in the same way as you would a bar of soap, whole. Some people however chop their shower jellies up using a few pieces at a time.

I was pleasantly surprised at how robust the Bowser shower jelly was. Some Lush shower jellies can be on the fragile side but after 3 showers, my Bowser shower jelly is still showing barely any signs of wear and tear.

The Bowser shower jelly lathers up with minimum effort and simply glides over your skin cleaning and warming it up as it goes along. Its scent is strong and as I said earlier won’t be to everyone’s liking as cinnamon is always either a hit or miss with people BUT how warm and snug it makes me feel is what I love about it the most.

After stepping out of the shower my skin is left feeling soft and clean, the shower jellies warming properties really do soothe your muscles with lasting impact too.

I’m going to be very sad when all of the stock of this beautiful shower jelly finally runs out. I know Bowser is a villain in the, The Super Mario Bros. franchise but I cannot get enough of this shower jelly!

Snow Dragon Bath Bomb from Lush

The Snow Dragon Bath Bomb first became available as a part of 2022’s Winter line. I’m a little late on reviewing it but I have heard that it will be making a return this Winter (2023), so I thought I’d finally get my half-written review on it finished and published on here!

I’m a little obsessed with all thing’s dragon after the Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon series, anything Dragon inspired is right up my street. The Snow Dragon bath bomb shares its scent with the Christmas classic, Baked Alaska soap, Mermaid bath bomb and Mermaid Tail bubble bar.

Snow Dragon is a similar size to the Sleepy Bear bath bomb and is one of the cheaper Winter-bath-bomb options. It’s designed to look like a sky-blue dragon that’s laying down. Again, it is very similar to Sleepy Bear as that bath bomb is designed as laying down too.

This small but mighty, sky-blue, dragon-shaped bath bomb is decorated with a sprinkling of purple-stained coarse sea salt and also has a generous helping of popping candy in it too. If I’m being honest, I think that the Snow Dragon bath bomb resembles a crocodile more than a dragon. BUT, seeing as dragons aren’t technically real, I don’t think it really matters! 😉

The Snow Dragon bath bomb was the first of the Winter 2022 products that I used, I don’t know why I have left it so long to review but the fact I did isn’t an indication that I didn’t enjoy using the bath bomb, I in fact loved it. There were so many great bath bombs last year that I simply couldn’t keep up with the reviews.

All of Lush’s bath bombs are hand pressed and the mould for the Snow Dragon bath bomb has quite an intricate design, it’s so interesting to see how Lush’s bath bombs get more and more intricate year in, year out. The invention of the 3D printer really has opened up so many possibilities for product design at Lush. When Lush first opened its doors in 1995 I don’t think anyone could have imagined that handmade bath bombs would evolve to look this spectacular!

The Snow Dragon bath bomb contains some of the following essential oils; lemon myrtle, ylang ylang and grapefruit. Its scent is a refreshingly zingy, sharp-citrus-concoction. It is perfect for when you need an energy boost, (something we all need a bit of help with during the cold Winter months)

Lush’s website describes the Snow Dragon bath bomb as a ‘magical creature’ that’s soothing sea salt will ‘soften your skin’ while it’s refreshing citrus-based oils will ‘awaken your mind’.

It’s the perfect Winter-time pick me up, I was incredibly lucky to grab several Snow Dragon bath bombs at Lush’s online boxing-day-sale last year.

As soon as the Snow Dragon bath bomb comes into contact with your bath water a burst of blue foam erupts from it. It doesn’t take long for the popping candy to make an appearance, you are almost immediately greeted with an array of snap, crackles, and pops as the blue foam slowly turns the water a shade of pale blue.

The Snow Dragon bath bomb is quite a quick fizzer taking only 5 minutes to fully dissolve, the popping candy however carries on popping away long after the bath bomb has dissolved. The lemon and grapefruit scent really comes alive within the hot bath water; my bathroom was filled with its beautifully zingy scent long after I pulled the plug.

Snow Dragon doesn’t create any bath art, it’s redeeming features are definitely its beautiful blue colour and super energising scent.

The sea salt included in the Snow Dragon bath bomb really does make a difference to the softness of your bath water. My skin has never felt so soft after using one of the smaller sized Lush bath bombs before.

The scent lasted on my skin for a good few hours after getting out of the bath and my skin stayed soft and smooth long after I got out too.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Snow Dragon bath bomb, so much so I bought several more after using it. It wasn’t my favourite of the bath bombs from the Winter 2022 collection but one I did thoroughly enjoy using. I am not surprised to see that the Snow Dragon bath bomb has been chosen to return for the Winter 2023 line.
