Asteroid City Shower Gel from Lush

At the time of writing this review Lush’s most recent collaboration has been with the Asteroid City movie, Lush X Asteroid City. The line was released at the same time as the science-fiction film hit cinemas in both the UK and USA.

Unfortunately, my local cinema closed its doors permanently, so I still haven’t had a chance to see the movie, I’ll be waiting for it to be released for in-home-viewing now BUT that hasn’t stopped me from trying out all of the products in the small but impressive, Asteroid City line!

Just like the Mario and Luigi shower gels from the Lush X Super Mario Bros. collab, the Asteroid City Shower Gel is a remake of an old Lush shower gel. If you were lucky enough to have tried the Very Very Frightening shower gel from Lush’s 2020 Halloween line, you’ll recognise that both it and the Asteroid City shower gel share the same scent.

The Asteroid bath bomb that is also a part of the Lush X Asteroid City line also shares the same scent so are perfect to use together.

While the Asteroid City shower gel shares a scent with the Very Very Frightening shower gel, that is all that the 2 shower gels have in common. The Asteroid City shower gel is a beautiful shade of teal, it’s a deep greeny-blue that has the finest golden shimmer in it. It matches its label and the movies promotional posters perfectly.

Consistency wise, the Asteroid City shower gel is runnier than the most recently released shower gels, but this isn’t a bad thing, I recommend giving it a good shake before you use it as this thickens it ever so slightly. A small amount of the shower gel goes a long way.

Asteroid City contains, grapefruit, bergamot and almond oils. The bottle describes its scent as an ‘nostalgic scent of blackcurrant’ but to me its fragrance has always made me think of raspberries.

The scent of the Asteroid City shower gel is at its best when it comes together with the hot water and steam of your shower. Its scent is sherbet-sweet and mouth-wateringly good. The gel lathers up quickly and the fruity scent remains on my skin long after I have stepped out of the shower.

After use, my skin is left feeling super-clean, perfectly hydrated, and silky-smooth to the touch. I’m always honest in my reviews and I hate to say this but I was asked several times which shower gel I preferred out of Asteroid City and Very Very Frightening and on this occasion, I have to say I preferred Very Very Frightening.

This doesn’t mean that I haven’t enjoyed using the Asteroid City shower gel, it’s always lovely to revisit old scents in new products. I just preferred the colour and consistency of Very Very Frightening.

Asteroid Bath Bomb from Lush

2023 has been a very busy year for Lush, not only are they churning out products from their normal seasonal lines but also taking part in collaboration after collaboration too. Today I am reviewing the Asteroid Bath Bomb from the Lush X Asteroid City collab!

Unfortunately, my local cinema closed so I still haven’t seen the new Asteroid City movie but that hasn’t stopped me from appreciating this mini collab.

The Asteroid bath bomb is shaped just as its name suggests, it’s a mix of dark shimmery blue and purple and even has crater holes.

The Asteroid bath bomb shares its scent with the Asteroid City shower gel from the same line as well as the Space Girl bath bomb and Very Very Frightening shower gel.

Asteroid contains grapefruit, bergamot, and almond oils as well as a generous helping of popping candy.

The ‘Space Girl scent’ is a much-loved scent family within the Lush community and I’m always happy to try it, in whatever format Lush chooses to release it in.

The Asteroid bath bombs scent isn’t an easy one to describe but I’ll give it my best shot, the first thing that I think of when sniffing the Asteroid bath bomb is raspberries. It’s a very gentle, berry scent.

It is not at all overpowering like some Lush scents are. It would be a good choice if you prefer the softer Lush scents.

The Asteroid bath bomb is the same size as the standard Lush bath bomb such as, Avobath or Twilight and fits snuggly in my hand.

As soon as the Asteroid bath bomb encounters your bath water a burst of blue, purple, and red foam bursts out of it. Slowly it starts to fizz away, charging around your bath like a mini speed boat.

As it spins around, blue, purple, and red bath art continues to spill out of it. The bath art colours are not dissimilar to the likes created by the Intergalactic bath bomb.

It doesn’t take long for the popping candy within the Asteroid bath bomb to make an appearance either. As the bath bomb spills out the array of colours and raspberry-like scent, the popping candy snap, crackles, and pops away putting on quite the show.

The photos in this review do the Asteroid bath bomb no justice at all. The bath art was insanely pretty!

It takes a good 10 minutes for the Asteroid bath bomb to fully dissolve, the water it leaves behind is a beautiful shade of purply blue. It’s incredibly shimmery, making me think of the nights sky. It’s like laying back in your own galaxy.

The water is a little tingly on my skin which I often find is the case when a bath bomb contains popping candy.

My skin laps up all the bath bombs goodness, leaving it feeling silky smooth. Once you’re out of the bath the light raspberry scent can still be smelt on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day too.

Overall, I really enjoyed having a new bath bomb to try in the ‘Space Girl’ scent, I do love the Space Girl bath bomb, but the bath art is what really sets the Asteroid bath bomb apart from the Space Girl bath bomb.

I am looking forward to reviewing further products from this collab over the next few days!

Fresh As Shower Gel from Lush

2023 seems to be the year of shower gel remakes at Lush. We’ve had Santa’s Christmas shower cream reimagined into the Mario shower gel and the So White shower gel reimagined into the Luigi shower gel, today I will be reviewing the Fresh As Shower Gel.

The Fresh As shower gel was released by Lush as a part of their 2023’s Father’s Day line. If you’re a frequent Lush customer, You’ll likely recognise this shower gel because before now it was originally released for Father’s Day under the name Rad Dad.

Unlike the other reimagined shower gels that I mentioned above, Fresh As and Rad Dad only have one difference and that’s their name. Fresh As is described by Lush as a ‘Siberian pine and orris oil bathroom treat’.

It is a beautiful dark shade of blue and shares its scent with all of the products from the Fresh As/Needles and Pines scent-family. I knew before I had even tried it that it would be a firm favourite for my husband in particular, he already uses the Fresh As perfume that I got him for Christmas 2020 all of the time so a shower gel equivalent has gone down a treat.

Fresh As contains a long list of refreshing and stimulating ingredients, there’s Siberian fir needle, orris and tagetes oils as well as benzoin resinoid and also infusion of fresh cucumber.

Its scent is very outdoorsy, rich and herbaceous. It’s refreshing but also creates a warming sensation on your skin, it’s an excellent shower gel to use after a workout or physically demanding day.

As someone who deals with chronic pain in all of my joints and muscles, the Fresh As shower gels stimulating effects really does help soothe my tired, aching muscles.

Consistency-wise the Fresh As shower gel is lovely and thick, much like the Hot Toddy and Bubbly shower gels. After several quite recent watery shower gel releases from Lush, I was pleasantly surprised when I first squirted some Fresh As shower gel in my hands.

Fresh As lathers up quickly and the tiniest amount goes an incredibly long way. A blob the size of a one-pound coin is more than enough to wash your whole body with.

Its scent really does come alive when combined with the hot water and steam from your shower. If you’re looking for a product that isn’t as spicy as Cinders shower gel, yet is still warming on the skin, Fresh As is well worth a try.

The shower gels scent remains on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day. I wouldn’t say it was a particularly hydrating shower gel, but it doesn’t dry out my skin at all.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Fresh As shower gel, it’s good value for money and is loved by everyone in my house. I have my fingers crossed that Lush bring out more products that share the Fresh As scent!
