Mercury Retrograde Bath Bomb from Lush

The Mercury Retrograde Bath Bomb was the first of 2019’s brand-new Halloween bath bombs that I tried. I’ll admit that before Lush released this bath bomb I didn’t know anything about the Mercury Retrograde phenomenon. After a little research I discovered that it’s a very interesting part of astrology.

Three or four times a year the planet Mercury is said to go into retrograde; This means that Mercury appears to move in the opposite direction in which the planet Earth moves. It is however all an illusion, both planet Mercury and planet Earth travel in the same direction. Mercury just moves slower than Earth which (when in retrograde) looks as if it is moving in the opposite direction.

Astrologists believe that when Mercury is in retrograde it causes chaos for us on Earth. Has your car broken down? has your laptop crashed? did you sleep through your alarm? According to astrologists it’s all Mercury being in retrogrades fault!

Whether you believe in astrology or not, the Mercury Retrograde bath bomb is a bath bomb worth trying. The first thing I couldn’t help but notice was how brightly coloured it was. Resembling a planet I feel as if Lush have pulled inspiration for the Mercury Retrograde bath bomb from the Intergalactic bath bomb.

Colour wise Mercury Retrograde is orange, purple and green and decorated with a generous sprinkling of black sea salt. How the sea salt is placed on the bath bomb is very similar to the likes of the Lush Summit Tiger Tiger Burning Bright bath bomb.

The Mercury Retrograde bath bomb has a long list of stimulating and warming ingredients, blended together all of them will ease all tension and lift your mood (caused by Mercury being in retrograde or not!) – Its fragrance has appeared in another much loved (especially by me) retro-Lush-product the Gingerbread House bubble bar. Why Lush have only just brought back a product with its scent is beyond me, it’s beautiful!

Mercury Retrograde contains cinnamon, ginger, Sicilian lemon and buchu oils. As soon as the bath bomb hits the bath water its mouthwatering gingerbread-biscuit-fragrance fills your bathroom. Orange, green and purple foam fizzes out of it creating bath art that is very similar to the bath art left behind by the Yoga Bomb bath bomb.

Mercury Retrograde is quite a fast fizzer but it doesn’t disappoint bath-art-wise. Although fast to dissolve, it means you can lay back and soak in its waters much more quickly. The carefully selected combination of Mercury Retrogrades ingredients are great for lulling you into a more relaxed state of mind, while you lie back enjoying the relaxing scent, it also works wonders on tired and/or achy muscles.

After getting out of a Mercury Retrograde bath my skin is left feeling soft, hydrated and it really does appear brighter. Its scent stays with me for the best part of the rest of the day too. This scent would work wonderfully in a perfume format , hint, hint Lush…

Although Mercury Retrograde isn’t your average Halloween bath bomb I think it fits into the range perfectly. I’ll be sad to see it go once Halloween is over and I will be grabbing a few before it’s too late. If you’re into astrology you’ll know that planet Mercury is next in retrograde this Halloween, if that’s not reason enough to give this bath bomb a go I don’t know what is!

Pumpkin Spice Lip Scrub from Lush

Lush have recently spoilt us with yet another lip scrub. 2019’s Halloween range includes the never-before-been-released Pumpkin Spice Lip Scrub. I use Lush lip scrubs religiously so whenever a new one comes out I always try to grab a pot.

The main ingredient in Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. To this day I am still lost for words that such a simple and natural mix of ingredients can do such a great job. It really does make me question why alternative companies ever actively chose to use micro-plastics in their exfoliation products in the first place. For this reason I am so happy that Lush have created so many new lip scrubs this year, they are ridiculously underrated and more people need to try them!

Using them requires the minimum of effort and they cover everything your lips need to always look and feel gorgeous. They are the perfect product to exfoliate dry or chapped lips and are also very good at softening and hydrating them at the same time. Exfoliating your lips has so many benefits and has never been easier thanks to Lush.

As well as caster sugar the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub also contains fine sea salt, cinnamon, shea butter, pumpkin seed butter, clove bud oil and pumpkin seed oil. This blend of ingredients make (in my personal opinion) one of the best tasting lip scrubs that has ever been made. You’re technically not supposed to eat it but if you do end up swallowing a bit, you’ll live. 😉

As soon as I took the lid off of my pot of Pumpkin Spice lip scrub, I noticed that it looked almost identical to the Carrot Cake lip scrub from 2019’s Easter range. On first sniff I actually thought that it smelt very similar to the Carrot Cake lip scrub too. Once I had both of them in front of me I however realised they weren’t as similar as I had led myself to believe.

Pumpkin Spices scent is much warmer than the likes of Carrot Cake, if seasons had a signature scent I’m pretty sure Autumn’s would smell just like the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub. The cinnamon in the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub is the most apparent to me, I’m a huge fan of cinnamon so naturally go for the products that have it in it. It’s a strange fragrance considering it smells both sweet and spicy but I think that’s why it appeals to me so much.

Like the other recently released Cookie Dough lip scrub, the Pumpkin Spices formula isn’t as chunky. It actually has a really soft sand-like-texture. At first I thought this would mean the lip scrub wouldn’t be as exfoliating as its lip scrub predecessors but I was left pleasantly surprised, the less-coarse formula actually works just as well, It’s almost as if the finer consistency helps the level of exfoliation go that little bit further.

A little amount of the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub goes a very, very long way. I normally always recommend using a lip balm or gloss after using a Lush lip scrub. This is because exfoliation can leave the lips a little dry but with the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub it’s so hydrating you do not need to. In simple terms the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub is the most hydrating lip scrub Lush have created yet. I am blown away!

Overall I am head over heels in love with the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub, it smells amazing, tastes delicious and works a treat, I am amazed at how hydrating it is too. Lush lip scrubs are normally only a little hydrating so Pumpkin Spice is a game changer. I’m so sad that it is only a Halloween exclusive as it really is the best lip scrub that Lush have made to date, it’s perfect.

Brr! Shower Slime from Lush

Brr! Shower Slime First released back in July 2019, the shower slimes are still a relatively new product from Lush. With a name like ‘shower slime’, the product is to-say-the-least quite a conversation starter. I have heard mixed reviews on the concept of this new and crazy-unique product format BUT interestingly enough, I have yet to hear a single negative review from anyone who has actually given one or all of the shower slimes a go.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the last few years, you’ll know that the world has gone a-tiny-bit-crazy for ‘slime’. Social media is full of slime videos and demos and almost everyone under the age of 12 has had a go at attempting to make their own slime, mostly without success.

I am unsure as to whether or not the slime-hype was the inspiration behind this new product format but whatever the answer, the shower slimes against all odds seem to have gone down a treat within the Lush Community.

I have been dreading writing this review as I want to give the Brr! Shower Slime the justice it deserves. Brr! is the very first shower slime that I tried and also happens to be the first that I am attempting to review.

The Brr! Shower Slime is the most eye-catching of all of the shower slimes released so far, this is due to its fluorescent yellow colour. Before I had, had a chance to see its ingredients list I assumed because of its colour, that it was the shower-slime-equivalent of the citrus-rich Ectoplasm shower cream, I was as per normal, wrong. The only thing that both Ectoplasm and Brr! have in common with each other is their colour.

When I first heard that Lush were bringing out a shower slime I was very interested in it, I was however on the fence about whether it was something we actually needed. When you ask for the definition of slime on Google it says ‘an unpleasantly thick and slippery liquid substance‘. I have heard so many people ask in horror, ‘why would you want to wash yourself with SLIME?!!’ all I can say is read on to find out…

Shower slime IS very slime-like BUT it’s not that much different to a shower gel. In fact, you pretty much use it just as you would a shower gel. A small amount goes a very long way making it very good value for money.

I’ve noticed that the Lush shower slimes have quite a lot of cornflour in them which is what gives them that slightly thicker, milky-dough-like-consistency. With just a bit of water the thickness of the slime soon lathers up into something that resembles shower gel so before you ask, no Lush shower slimes will definitely not clog up your drains!

The horrified-by-slime-people will also be very pleased to hear that Lush shower slimes are NOT at all sticky. The shower slime is actually quite fun to play around with and when you want to use it for its body-cleansing-purposes, it lathers up just as good and as quickly as a shower gel. One thing I love about Brr! in particular is how hydrating it is on your skin.

Brr! shower slimes scent is rich with spearmint oil through and through, I originally was led to believe that it shared its fragrance with the chocolate-mint-scented Christmas Angel/Haagen bath bomb, it’s however not chocolatey like the bath bombs at all. Instead Brr!’s fragrance is purely super-sweet-spearmint, not that you’d have ever guessed that based on its very un-minty neon yellow colour!

Overall I think that the Brr! shower slime is a brilliant shower product, not only is it fun to use, it also leaves me feeling clean and refreshed all while leaving my skin perfectly hydrated and looking brighter too.

I am genuinely very excited to see what other scents Lush decide to bring out in the shower-slime-format next. After just one use of Brr! I can safely say that I am hooked on Lush shower slimes, something I never thought I’d be saying when their release was first announced. I promise that I will review the other 2 shower slimes that are currently available on here very soon. Watch this space! ☺️
