Lush Cosmetics’ world famous Shower Jellies were first introduced to the world as an alternative & very unique shower product back in 2005. Back then I was a teenager of 15 years and my only worries were about boys. As for Lush Cosmetics they had just reached the tender age of 10 years young…

I still can’t quite get over the fact that I was 5 when they first opened their doors. The speed in which Lush have grown not only in the UK but worldwide makes me feel so OLD.

In just over 20 years they have literally changed the cosmetics industry for the better.

The concept behind the idea of a jelly product was inspired by the British, party food favourite, jelly and ice cream. Growing up in the 90’s & 00’s jelly was unavoidable at most children’s parties.

Lush are always one step ahead of every other company when it comes to new ideas. I am led to believe that someone high up at Lush was tucking into a nice bit of jelly and ice cream when they had the shower jelly brain wave.

Seeing as I could talk or write myself into winning an Olympic gold medal I decided to shorten this post up with a quote directly off of the Lush website itself. That way I can get on with the review of the very first shower jelly I had the pleasure of trying…

‘Shower jellies are a fantastic, versatile alternative to soaps and shower gels. You can: squish them into a pouf for a thick, creamy textured lather; chop them up into little one-wash sized cubes; chill them in the fridge or freezer for reviving cooling or get up close and personal by lathering them straight over your body.’

To be perfectly honest I did not get the concept of the shower jelly at all. I was getting along just fine with good old, ordinary shower gel. It wasn’t until 2015 that I actually tried one. Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly was my very first and I haven’t stopped raving about shower jellies since.

What was first a bit of a tongue twister for me has turned into one of my all time favourite Lush products. SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY, SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY, SANTA’S BELLY SHOWER JELLY… Say it fast over and over, you know you want to 😉

Santa’s Belly (sorry I said it again) shares its scent with the So White bath bomb, both the old design and 2016’s new one.

Its an apple based product. It reminds me of freshly cut up apples and if it was edible I’d be tucking right in to every product in its scent. Obviously it’s not edible so I just have to settle with washing and bathing with it, which might I add is heaven on earth!

The above quote from the Lush website sums up how to use a shower jelly. It can also be used in chunks in the same way as bubble bar and can even be used as shampoo.

I use mine in the same way as you would a bar of soap. Some people chop their ones up. I just prefer to use it as a whole. My first thought on trying it out was ‘wow this jelly is practically indestructible!’ it lathered up so well and so quickly too, it also didn’t appear to be getting noticeably smaller on use.

Of course it doesn’t last forever and eventually its size got smaller and smaller, it however lasted for a lot longer than any shower gel I had ever had, its scent never diminished. Its fragrance remained as beautiful as the day I first opened it and from then on right up until it was all gone.

Since my discovery of Santa’s Belly, I have tried quite a few of the different ones Lush have on offer. They’re game changers! Santa’s Belly is still however my favourite of them all.

I was so pleased to see that they had brought it back out again in the 2016 Lush Winter line.

Most of the Lush jellies I have used are quite plain, Santa’s Belly is a little different as it has soft stars in it, giving it a special christmassy edge.

Before Christmas is over, you have to try Santa’s Belly shower jelly, using it alongside a So White bath bomb will make your bathroom feel like a portal into a fairytale kingdom.

Where princesses kiss frogs, fairy godmothers grant wishes and witches poison apples…

Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb from Lush

2016 has been one of Lush’s best years for products yet. I don’t know how they always manage to do better and better every year, they just do and that’s why I love Lush so much!

Earlier this year, the Mother’s day line introduced us to a completely new type of bath bomb, The Roller.

The Roller was unique to anything Lush had sold before because of its design. The bath bomb is made just like any other bath bomb but the top half of it is dipped into a mixture of hot oil and butters, they are then left to set. Once set you are left with a bath bomb with 50% of it covered in a thin coating of rich and super softening bath melt.

The release of the Roller bath bomb caused mass hysteria in the Lush world, I know sometimes I can exaggerate but Roller honestly caused absolute pandemonium. Everyone wanted to try it and every time they became available they would become sold out within minutes.

The Lush community has (at the point of me writing this review) been spoilt with 2 more bath bombs designed in the same way as Roller. The Over and Over bath bomb and the Never Mind the Ballistics bath bomb.

I was first introduced to the Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb at the Lush creative showcase back in September this year. It is currently part of the Lush 2016 Winter range and it has made quite the impression on me.

I do not recognise Never Mind The Ballistics’ scent from any other Lush product and it took me using it a few times to really appreciate it.

Never Mind The Ballistics is a wonderfully fruity scented bath bomb, this is however not very obvious at all. It contains both lime and sweet orange oil and also fresh banana. The banana seems to mask the zestyness that can normally be detected in products that contain lime or orange oil, it still has a very fruity scent but its so unique to any product I have tried from Lush before.

Just like the Roller and Over and Over bath bomb, Never Mind The Ballistics’ is a real treat for the skin.

I am very wary of products with extra melt in as I am not very steady on my feet due to 2 medical conditions, I therefore avoid anything that could make my bath tub excessively slippery.

As with Roller and Over and Over, Never Mind The Ballistics isn’t at all excessively oily, all 3 are in my opinion, in fact the perfect combination of bath bomb and bath melt. I was so scared of using them at first but am so glad that I did.

My photographs do the Never Mind The Ballistics bath bomb no justice at all. The colours and patterns it creates while swirling around your bathtub are almost hypnotic.

You just can’t take your eyes off of it and I always find myself trying not to wriggle or move in case I disturb its work of art!

I am so, so impressed with Never Mind The Ballistics. My only negative is that colour wise it is very similar to the Over and Over bath bomb.

I really like the idea of it having fresh banana in, if you struggle to have your 5 a day this bath bomb won’t help BUT I guess bathing in it is better than nothing at all… 😉

Although this bath bomb doesn’t appear at all Christmassy, I do think it’s a fantastic addition to the 2016 Winter line and I really recommend trying it at least once.

Sugar Plum Fairy Lip Scrub from Lush

Ever since trying my very first Lush lip scrub I have been hooked.

I don’t even bother looking at other brands anymore as no other lip scrub exfoliates, hydrates and softens my lips better.

I am a frequent user of Lush lip scrubs as I have an awful habit of biting my lips in my sleep. I like the Lush lip scrubs over others because they require minimum effort while covering everything your lips needs to look their best.

Being in a little tub, Lush lip scrubs can easily be slipped into your hand bag ready for you when you need it. They are a quick and easy way to exfoliate dry or chapped lips on the go.

The Sugar Plum Fairy Lip Scrub is a part of 2016’s Lush Winter line and it is one of 2 releases. Unexpectedly to me, Sugar Plum shares its scent with The Comforter Bubble Bar.

I love the Comforter bubble bar I however am indecisive in regards to the shower cream equivalent because I find the scent too strong. Once I have however used it and the scent has dampened somewhat, I begin to warm to it. It’s definitely more desirable for me an hour or so after using it.

The Sugar Plum Fairy Lip Scrub like the shower cream is very strongly scented. This worried me a little as the thought of putting it near my mouth made me feel a little bit sick.

The smallest amount however goes a long way and I found that when it was on my lips its scent wasn’t nearly as strong as it is in the pot.

The main ingredient in Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. To this day I am still amazed something so basic and natural can do such a good job at exfoliating.

To use a lip scrub, place the smallest amount on to your finger then gently buff it on to your lips. The sugar helps smoothes and soothes any bits of your lips that don’t appear perfectly polished.

Once you have then finished buffing your lips you then add a dab of Lush lip balm.

Over all I am really impressed by the Sugar Plum Fairy lip scrub, it is not as moisturising as others I have tried such a Bubblegum or Chocolate, it however still leaves my lips looking smooth and at their best.
