Barbie Bath Bath Bomb from Lush

2023 has been a very busy year for Lush, not only are they churning out products for their normal seasonal lines but also taking part in collaboration after collaboration too. Today I am reviewing the Barbie Bath Bath Bomb from the Barbie X Lush collab!

I don’t ever visit the Lush Reddit pages but see a couple of screenshots shared on Instagram of people from it saying how disappointed they were with the Barbie X Lush line up, several days before it had even been released.

It’s crazy how seeing something like that sits with you, I hadn’t thought I’d taken much notice until my order with my Barbie X Lush bits arrived.

I’m honest as always in my reviews and once I’d had a good sniff of it all my first thought was HOW CAN YOU BE DISAPPOINTED WITH ALL OF THIS?

It’s safe to say I will continue to stay away from Lush Reddit. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just feel like so much unnecessary negativity lives on there, I’m glad I gave the line a chance to come out before I voiced my own opinion on it. Spoiler alert, it’s all incredible!

The Barbie Bath bath bomb shares its scent with the Strawberry Crumble bubbleroon and You Shall Go To The Ball bath bomb from Lush’s Christmas 2021 line.

Barbie Bath contains fair trade organic cocoa butter, Sicilian lemon oil, tonka absolute, coconut milk powder, fair trade shea butter, extra virgin coconut oil, organic jojoba oil, coconut cream and ruby cocoa liquor.

I wasn’t aware until after I had first used the Barbie Bath bath bomb, that inside of it there is also a hidden heart shaped cocoa butter bath melt!

The Barbie Bath bath bombs scent is a very subtle strawberry like fragrance. It is not at all overpowering like a lot of Lush’s famous fragrances. It would be a good choice to go for if you prefer the softer Lush scents.

The Barbie Bath bath bombs weigh approximately 120g each so the fact they appear to be so big is deceiving. For example, the Intergalactic bath bomb is 200g but looking at Barbie Bath, you wouldn’t think it was 80g lighter than the average Lush bath bomb. Not that size matters, especially when it comes down to Lush…

The Barbie Bath bath bomb fits snuggly in my hand and is in the shape of the letter B, it’s been created in the official Barbie font, in the traditional colours, Barbie pink with bright white font!

As soon as the Barbie Bath bath bomb encounters your bath water a burst of pink foam bursts out of it. Normally with the flatter bath bombs like Barbie Bath, they dissolve a lot quicker, but Barbie Bath fizzed away for a good 10 minutes.

My photos in this review do the bath bomb no justice at all. I highly recommend looking under the hashtag #BarbieBathBathBomb on Instagram and TikTok just to see how amazing this bath bomb can be in action.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a hidden heart shaped cocoa butter bath melt inside of the Barbie Bath bath bomb, I never got to see it and wasn’t aware of it until after the bath bomb had fully dissolved. Not knowing about it left me really surprised at the amount of cocoa butter left floating on the surface of the water.

As you can see in the photo below, the water left behind by the Barbie Bath bath bomb and its hidden cocoa butter bath melt is a gorgeous shade of pink with lots of little specks of cocoa butter. The waters level of silkiness and cocoa butter are on par with the likes of the Lava Lamp and Shoot for the Star bath bombs. But a lot less messy!

My skin lapped up all of the yummy cocoa butter, leaving it feeling silky smooth and perfectly hydrated.

Once you’re out of the bath the delicate strawberry scent can still be smelt on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day and my skin wasn’t at all oily, the cocoa butter seemed to melt right into my skin, leaving my skin noticeably hydrated for several days.

Overall, I really enjoyed this bath bomb and I’m so glad that I didn’t listen to the few people on Reddit that were underwhelmed by the Barbie X Lush line before it had even come out. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. The Barbie X Lush collab may just be Lush’s best collab yet!

Barbie Dream Sugar Scrub from Lush

At the time of writing this review Lush’s most recently released collaboration is with BARBIE. You read that right, the collab of all collabs is here, Barbie X Lush. With the new Barbie film recently coming out in cinemas, it’s hard to get through a day without seeing or hearing something Barbie related. I am so happy that Lush decided to join in and celebrate the joy of Barbie!

The first product I tried from the Barbie X Lush collaboration was the Barbie Dream Sugar Scrub. Its ingredients include caster sugar, fair trade organic cocoa butter, organic almond oil, extra virgin coconut oil, lemon myrtle oil, Persian lime oil, ylang ylang oil and a little shimmer.

As you can see in the photo below, the sugar scrub is a swirl of pink and white. It was almost too pretty to dip my fingers in!

Scent wise the Barbie Dream sugar scrub smells just like a home-made lemon and limeade, it’s a very gentle scent and not at all overpowering. Consistency wise the Barbie Dream sugar scrub is really thick, the closest past product that I can think of that is similar to it is the Cookie Dough body scrub. It’s not quite as doughy though, this formula is much smoother.

After scooping out a small amount, I lathered it up and got straight to work with it. On the pot it tells you to rub the sugar scrub in, in small, circular motions followed by rinsing it off. A small amount of the scrub goes a long way, and I was surprised at how quickly it lathered up. I have never been this impressed with a Lush exfoliator before. After my first use, I knew it was special and I am so disappointed that it’s a limited-edition product that won’t be with us forever.

Lush really need to think about making more sugar scrubs like this, I want Lush to make them in all of Lush’s best-selling scents. WE NEED THEM!

The reason I speak so highly of the Barbie Dream sugar scrub is because of how it makes my skin feel after using it. It’s gentle but so incredibly scrubby at the same time. Lush have balanced the ratio of caster sugar and skin-moisturising ingredients in the formula of the Barbie Dream sugar scrub perfectly. After using it my skin feels soft and smooth and is so incredibly hydrated. There’s certainly no need for body lotion afterwards.

There is a slight shimmer in the Barbie Dream sugar scrub but it’s barely noticeable on the skin, if anything, with it being a Barbie product I was expecting it to bedazzle me somewhat, but it again was just right shimmer wise too, so discreet I could barely see it.

I couldn’t end this review without mentioning the beautiful pink pot it comes in. Even though it isn’t the traditional black pot that Lush normally go for IT IS still a part of the Lush bring it back scheme so keep a hold of it! Overall, I can’t get enough of the Barbie Dream sugar scrub, Lush NEED to make more sugar scrubs like it. I am so sad that the Barbie Dream sugar scrub will only be around for a very short time. Grab it while you can, it’s worth every penny!

Gary the Snail Bath Bomb from Lush

For plastic-free-July Lush collaborated with the American animated television series, SpongeBob SquarePants to help keep our oceans and waterways clean. One part of the collaboration was the Lush X SpongeBob line and the other was a SpongeBob, Lush Kitchen themed box. Today I’ll be reviewing the Gary the Snail Bath Bomb from the Lush Kitchen box.

What I loved the most about the SpongeBob Lush Kitchen box is that you could enjoy all of the products even if you aren’t a fan/are not familiar with the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants. I happen to be a huge fan of SpongeBob so was ecstatic to see so many amazing SpongeBob themed products.

In the tv series Gary is SpongeBob’s pet snail and strangely communicates with him via meows.

The Mermaid and Gary the Snail bath bombs were probably the products I was most excited about from July 2023’s Lush Kitchen box. Gary the Snail is, as its name suggests, a snail shaped bath bomb. It has a pink shell, green eyes, and a blue body.

The Gary the Snail bath bomb scent is from the American Cream scent family. Most recently, products that have shared the same scent include the American Cream shower gel and Marshmallow World bath bombs. Being honest as always, the American Cream scent isn’t one of my favourites from Lush. I’d even go as far as to say that I feel it is one of Lush’s most overrated scent families… (I’m sorry, we can’t love all of the same stuff!)

The Gary the Snail bath bomb contains benzoin resinoid, vanilla absolute and the following essential oils; Clary sage and lavender.

Despite my feelings, the American Cream scent IS one of Lush’s best-sellers and is insanely popular. It reminds me of the standard smelling car fresheners that you can buy in garages. It’s a very light vanilla and creamy strawberry blend.

Although I’m not a huge fan of the scent I was still keen to try the Gary the Snail bath bomb.

I’m not sure of the actual weight of the Gary the Snail bath bomb but in my hand, it feels similar in size to the likes of the Sleepy Bear or Mr Loba Loba bath bombs.

As soon as the Gary the Snail bath bomb encounters your bath water a burst of blue, pink and green foam erupts out of it. Slowly but surely, Gary the Snail bubbles away, floating just under the water’s surface.

As it floats around it sends blues, pinks, and greens out of it, the bath art is incredible for such a small bath bomb. My photos in this post do this bath bombs level of bath art no justice at all. I highly recommend looking under the hashtag #GaryTheSnailBathBomb on Instagram just to see how amazing this bath bomb performed!

The Gary the Snail bath bombs scent is gentle and not too in your face, it’s a good choice if you aren’t a fan of the heavier, more overpowering Lush scents.

It takes about 5 minutes for the Gary the Snail bath bomb to fully dissolve, the water it leaves behind is a shimmery, greyish blue. I didn’t find the bath bomb drying on my skin, but I wouldn’t say it left me particularly hydrated either. Its light scent was detectable on my skin for a few hours after getting out of the bath too.

Overall, I did enjoy using the Gary the Snail bath bomb. For me personally it was more of a novelty product than anything else, but the bath art it created was spectacular!

I’d have loved to have seen this released in the Lush X SpongeBob collaboration rather than just the Lush Kitchen box as I know of several people who aren’t subscribers of the Lush Kitchen box who would have loved to have given Gary the Snail a try.
