Pumpkin Patch Bath Bomb from Lush

The Pumpkin Patch Bath Bomb is a brand-new product that (at the time of writing this review) was only available as an exclusive item in October 2023’s Lush Kitchen Subscription Box. Whether or not it will be available in the future elsewhere is a question you’ll have to ask Lush.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb is an orange pumpkin that has been designed to look like the typical carved-Halloween-pumpkin but with a pirate twist, one eye is covered by a patch. Its name, the fact it is a pumpkin, and the eye patch are a (typical of Lush) very clever pun.

This year’s Halloween line is incredible, I could see this bath bomb selling extremely well alongside all of the other 2023 Halloween stock.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb contains grapefruit oil, juniper berry oil, lime oil and organic pumpkin seed oil and shares its scent with several best-selling Halloween Lush products such as the Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar and 2 products that are available from this year’s Halloween line (2023) the Sparkly Pumpkin shower slime and Pumpkin Crumble bubble bar.

Before now, the Sparkly Pumpkin Lush-scent-family had only ever featured in a soap and body spray format (as well as the above-mentioned bubble bar and shower slimes) so getting it in a bath bomb format was a dream come true for some.

To look at, the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb has a very similar finish to the likes of the Gold RabbitRose GoldPartridge in a Pear Tree, and Lucky Tiger bath bombs, covered in an orangey golden shimmer.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb’s scent is delicious. It has a slightly spicy element to it as well as a kick of citrus from the grapefruit oil. Each of the bath bomb’s ingredients mixes with each other perfectly, softening one aspect of it while strengthening another.

Although I do not drink anything with caffeine in, I have been told by someone who does, that the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb smells very similar to the spices used in a pumpkin spiced latte.

Pumpkin Patch is a good-sized bath bomb, it’s similar in size to the standard Lush bath bombs, fitting snuggly in my hand.

As soon as the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with a burst of bright orange foam.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb’s orangey golden shimmer also starts to glide into your bath water almost immediately too.

I know I say this in almost every bath bomb review but the photos in this review do the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb no justice at all.

Its bath art is very similar to the bath art created by both the Orange Pop and Christmas Sweater bath bomb. The orange and red swirls seem to go on forever.

The Pumpkin Patch bath bomb takes approximately 15 minutes to fully dissolve, leaving you with plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the pretty red and orange show that it puts on.

I found the bright orange waters left behind by the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb exceptionally hydrating and smooth to the touch. The amount of shimmer in it also left me mesmerised.

Its scent although subtle, can still be detected on your skin long after getting out of the bath. My skin was also still silky smooth for the whole rest of the next day too.

I adore the Pumpkin Patch bath bomb, why it wasn’t a part of the in-store Lush Halloween line is a mystery to me as it really makes for the perfect, pumpkin-spiced Halloween bath!

Jason’s Mummy Bath Bomb from Lush

The Jason’s Mummy Bath Bomb is a brand-new, limited-edition product from Lush’s 2023 Halloween line.

It’s a new product but not a completely new design. If you’ve been a Lush customer for quite some time you may recognise its shape as Lush have used the same bath-bomb-mould to make it as the mould used for the long-discontinued, Ginger Ninja and Black Ninja bath bombs.

Designed to look just like a stereotypical, scary mummy wrapped in bandages with only its bright red eyes visible, Jason’s Mummy fits right into the theme of Halloween.

Weighing in at approximately 130g the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb fits snuggly in my hand.

The Jason’s Mummy bath bomb contains tangerine oil, grapefruit oil and litsea cubeba oil.

It shares its scent with the past Halloween products, Ectoplasm shower cream and Ectoplasm jelly bomb.

The Ectoplasm scent is a much-loved Halloween Lush-scent-family, the Lush website describes the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb as having ‘citrusy scents of tangerine and grapefruit oils.’ It’s a very gentle and zesty fragrance that isn’t unlike a soft yet bitter marmalade.

One of the more interesting facts about the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb is that like the Bubble Lugosi bubble bar, some of it glows in the dark! If you hold the bath bomb under a light and then put the bath bomb into the dark, you can see that the back of its eyes glow a light yellowy-green.

Although the glow-in-the-dark aspect of this bath bomb doesn’t show once in the bath, it did add a level of novelty to the product.

As soon as the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with an explosion of milky-white but clear bubbles.

The Jason’s Mummy bath bomb is not fantastic bath-art-wise as it doesn’t have any colour, it’s actually a very gentle bath bomb which may be a good choice for someone who isn’t into all-things bright, bold and loud.

Most people who would bother to read this review will be more into the more colourful products but sometimes less, really is more!

The Jason’s Mummy bath bomb takes only 3 and a half minutes to fully dissolve. The water left behind is clear with a milky like tinge. Its scent, although subtle can still be smelt throughout your time in the bath right up until the last drop gurgles down your plug hole.

I found the water that the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb left behind to be silky smooth and incredibly refreshing. Its zingy scent can still be detected on your skin long after getting out of the bath which surprised me as the citrus-led Lush products often don’t have much staying power.

My skin still felt soft and hydrated for the whole of the next day after using it too.

I did really enjoy the Jason’s Mummy bath bomb, no, it wasn’t big on bath art but as I said earlier, sometimes less really is more. It’s a very simple bath bomb and I think that’s why I liked it so much.

NEW Monster Octopus Shower Jelly from Lush

The Monster Octopus Shower Jelly is back as a part of Lush’s 2023 Halloween line. It was originally released back in 2021 in a different colour; 2021’s Monster Octopus was a wine-red colour and 2023’s version is light pink.

The Monster Octopus shower jelly is inspired by the Kraken, a legendary giant octopus from Scandinavian folklore that was said to terrorise sailors. It has a fantastically spooky back story, making it perfect for the Halloween period.

The first thing that I noticed about the Monster Octopus shower jelly was its shape. A lot of Lush’s shower jellies are just the standard pot shape. Some are however (like Monster Octopus) made into the shape of a character. Monster Octopus happens to be as its name suggests, an octopus!

If you have read any of my shower jelly reviews before this one, you’d know that I prefer to use my shower jellies whole, in a very similar way to how you would use a standard bar of soap. Some people however chop their shower jellies up using one piece at a time. There’s no right or wrong way to use them so just do whatever you are most comfortable with.

In the past, I have always favoured the shower jellies that are in the standard shape. This is because I find them a lot easier to use and they tend to last longer too. The character shaped shower jellies just don’t seem to have the same level of stamina, falling apart a lot quicker.

I am pleased to however report that the Monster Octopus shower jelly has lasted me a good 3 uses and doesn’t show any sign of depletion or wear and tear yet!

Going back to this shower jellies shape – I mentioned a few paragraphs ago that this shower jelly has been made into the shape of an octopus. Many people have however pointed out that it only has 5 legs. TRUE. I’m unsure as to why Lush decided to give it 5 legs, instead of the 8 that octopuses are meant to have. I suspect that it is something to do with flimsiness and ease of handling it during use. It could however also be something as simple as it just looked better with 5 legs. Again, these are just me guessing.

My overactive imagination however decided that the Monster Octopus shower jelly is in fact a star fish that is wearing an octopus Halloween costume! I liked that idea so I’m choosing to believe that now.

The Monster Octopus shower jellies scent is a sweet and powerfully rich, fruity affair. It contains fresh-passionfruit, vanilla, blackcurrant, sweet-wild-orange and tagetes. It’s the perfect mix of both sweet and sour and it fits perfectly into the theme of a candy filled Halloween. It lathers up with ease, incredibly quickly. I discovered by accident that if you hold it under a running tap, it also works brilliantly as a bubble bath too.

Using it in the shower or bath leaves me feeling clean and my skin soft. Its powerful scent also stays on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day after using it. It mentions on its packaging that it can be used as a shampoo too; I haven’t tried it in my hair but would be interested in hearing anyone’s review if they have.

Overall, I am really impressed with the new Monster Octopus shower jelly. Although it’s no different from the old version really… If you liked 2021’s version, you’ll also very much like 2023’s!
