The Modfather Bubble Bar from Lush

Every last aspect of a Lush product is carefully picked and designed. Its scent, ingredients, shape and colours are all under special consideration. Every single part of a Lush product has a valid purpose for being there, they literally think and perfect every last detail.

When ever I get my hands on a brand new Lush product I like to delve a little into its history. I like to find out a little more about how and why the wonderful people at Lush came up with such a product.

This year Lush Cosmetics decided to make a line of Father’s Day products, this is the first year that they have done so. Lushie’s all over the world have welcomed this small range of new and exclusive products with open arms. After all, Lush release the most amazing Mother’s Day products so it’s only fair to let the Fathers of the world get in on the action too.

The Modfather Bubble Bar although very small sure has a lot of clout. Inspired by the Mods and Rockers of Britain’s 1960’s youth subcultures, Lush have clearly had a lot of fun coming up with it.

I’m not going to write an essay for you to read on Mods and Rockers, in all honesty I don’t really know much about them anyway. I can vaguely remember learning about them at school when I was 9 or 10 years old. My only real memory of it is that we watched a video recording of an old BBC documentary on the ‘TV with wheels’.

Our teacher for that year was truly awful, he was lazy and couldn’t ever engage the class, he took the fun out of everything and I know this is why I don’t remember a single thing he ever tried to teach us. 16 years later I am still really disappointed in him as I could really do with some Mod and Rocker knowledge right now…

The Modfather bubble bar isn’t very big at all. What it however lacks in size it well makes up for with its beautiful scent. Packed with Brazilian orange oil, the Modfather bubble bar has a super zingy and energising-summer-scent.

It’s perfect for anyone looking to add a spring to their step. It’s mood brightening, refreshing and tailor made to revive all of ones senses.

The only negative point I have on this bubble bar is how small it is. As a woman of 5 foot 2, I can appreciate that good things come in small packages. I am however always a little disappointed if I cannot use the same Lush bubble bar over 2 or 3 baths.

I think that I am maybe just a little bubble-greedy though. The first bubble bar I ever purchased from Lush was The Comforter, size-wise I was therefore spoilt rotten, from day one.

Using the whole of the Modfather bubble bar for one bath did make for an incredibly lavish bath, it was fit for a king, making it (in my opinion) worth every penny. The first time I tried it I did try to use only half of it. Half of it left me with good results but not as good as using the whole thing. Although a little pricey if used in just one bath, it was a bloody good bath that I’d love to have time and time again.

Crumbling a Modfather bubble bar under a running tap produces more than a copious amount of luxurious, soft white, fragrant citrus bubbles. I have grown quite fond of the scent and hope that Lush incorporate it into future Lush products too.

The picture above speaks for itself. Underneath the canopy of bubbles is beautiful, royal blue water. I have yet to come across a Lush product that leaves my bath water such a deep blue before. It’s such a lovely shade of blue, I could just lay in the water for hours.

Fizzbanger Bath Bomb from Lush

The Fizzbanger Bath Bomb has long been one of my favourite Lush bath bombs, at the time of writing this review it is a part of the all-year-round range. If it was ever discontinued, I’d be a very sad Lushie…

The Fizzbanger bath bomb was inspired by the Roald Dahl book, The BFG. Growing up the BFG was one of my favourite books and Roald Dahl to this day is one of my favourite authors, even as an adult I love to go back and read his work.

Funnily enough, I associate a lot of Lush things with Roald Dahl; for example, the Lush Factory is right up there with Willy Wonker’s Chocolate Factory as one of my dream destinations.

The Fizzbanger bath bomb is the standard shaped Lush bath bomb and is bright yellow. Upon first sight the Fizzbanger bath bomb is quite plain in comparison to the other staple Lush bath bombs BUT looks can be deceiving…

Looking at the Fizzbanger bath bomb surrounded by all the other Lush bath bombs such as Frozen and Guardian of the Forest it is easy to see why it could be overlooked. Other bath bombs are much more heavily decorated whereas the Fizzbanger is all round with only one visible colour.

It is not until you place the Fizzbanger bath bomb into your bath water that you see and smell its true potential. It is described on Lush’s website as ‘a Catherine wheel of a bath bomb’ and that’s exactly what it is!

The Fizzbanger bath bomb contains popping candy, cinnamon leaf oil, petitgrain oil, ylang ylang oil and oak moss extract.

Created to have individual scented layers, the Fizzbanger is a feast for your nose as well as your skin. A lot of people wrongly assume that the Fizzbanger is lemon scented because of its colour, the scent is however more like an apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Delicious!

At first the Fizzbanger bath bomb creates a mound of yellow foam. Once the yellow, foamy explosion spreads itself around the bath a fleck of the Fizzbangers hidden blue interior makes an appearance.

Once the yellow, foam explosion begins to spread itself out a fleck of Fizzbanger’s blue interior makes an appearance. It slowly spins around the water creating blue and yellow lines until the very-middle of the bath bomb reveals itself. Inside is a paper-cut-out BANG surprise, similar to the hidden paper-insert found in the Blackberry bath bomb.

The bath art created by the Fizzbanger bath bomb is INCREDIBLE. The photos in this blog review do the bath bomb no justice at all. It doesn’t take very long after the paper insert makes an appearance for the popping candy to start crackling away.

Petitgrain oil (the supposed primary citrus scent that I think is completely masked by the cinnamon and baked apple scent in Fizzbanger) makes Fizzbanger a good choice of a bath partner if you’re in need of a pick-me-up.

Petitgrain oil is often used within aromatherapy becauseof its calming properties, it known to help reduce the feeling of anxiety and put alongside ylang ylang and cinnamon leaf oil makes the Fizzbanger bath bomb a truly joyful and relaxing bath time treat.

As the blue interior begins to show, the Fizzbanger bath bomb starts to spin making the most beautiful swirly blue and yellow patterns. It moves so quickly, it’s almost impossible to get a clear shot of.

At the end you are left with yellow and blue bubbles sitting on the surface of your bath water. Underneath is the most striking, electric green water, infused with skin softening essential oils that are relaxing for mind, body and soul.

I prefer to use a Fizzbanger bath bomb during the day/in the morning as I find it really awakens my senses if I’ve had a restless night before hand.

I was actually trolled by somebody a couple of years ago on Facebook when I mentioned that Fizzbanger was a good day time bath bomb. What a thing to troll someone about? It just goes to show that not everyone knows the benefits of each essential oil! If every bath bomb ingredient made you sleepy, they wouldn’t be nearly as interesting to use.

Apparently, I need to do more ‘productive things’ with my day other than ‘just bathing’. (Sorry I’m sat here laughing at the thought of me spending all day, every day in the bath… I’m clearly living the dream! and I’m not very wrinkly? maybe I’m part fish or a mermaid?

I have 2 incredibly painful medical conditions that have left me disabled, bathing in hot water helps ease this pain, without this pain relief productiveness of any kind wouldn’t exist in any part of my day (and I would have never found Lush!)

Let’s end this review with a message, if you feel the urge to write a nasty message to a stranger on the internet maybe try this bath bomb instead? 😊

Lush baths have helped me no end, if I need a boost to get through the rest of the day Fizzbanger is my go-to bath bomb.

Its scent is delicious and as for the visual theatrics of it while it fizzles away (popping candy too) it couldn’t be any more spectacular!

Cyanide Pill Bath Bomb from Lush

cyanide pill bath bomb

The first thing that entered my head when I heard about Lush’s Cyanide Pill Bath Bomb was, what the hell, CYANIDE?!

I left school 10 years ago now but I do remember learning a little bit about cyanide poisoning in history. Please do not expect this post to be a recap of my knowledge on all things historical. I got a D in my history GCSE which was actually my lowest grade, I’m not at all confident delving into the who, what’s and where’s of the original cyanide pill but I feel a brief introduction is needed within my review of this strange but very alluring bath bomb.

A cyanide pill is more commonly know as the suicide pill. During World War II they were developed and given to agents who were entering enemy territory. Unfortunately there was every chance that the agents would be captured and tortured for information. The ‘suicide pill’ sat in their mouth and was cleverly disguised as a false tooth.

Someone wishing to activate the cyanide pill would only need to bite down on it. Filled with a highly toxic compound of concentrated potassium cyanide, death was supposedly very quick and a much better alternative for those that would have been put through the most despicable levels of torture.

Do not panic! The bath bomb equivalent of the cyanide pill is a lot more friendly than its original pill form.

As soon as the Cyanide Pill bath bomb hits the water, yellow and white frothy bubbles appear. You are immediately hit with a strong scent of sweet almonds alongside a light but noticeable fragrance of lemon zest.

The Cyanide Pill bath bomb isn’t as big as other bath bombs, I have seen people online stating that they think it’s a lot bigger than they imagined, I however disagree. I find it very small in comparison to others. I have however learnt that size is not a characteristic that makes a Lush product any better than others. Good things come in all shapes and sizes!

cyanidepill3

The Cyanide Pill bath bomb was one of the Lush products that was exclusive to Lush Oxford Street when it first opened a little over a year ago. It is still an Oxford Street exclusive so is quite hard to get hold of.

When I very first used this bath bomb I was completely unaware of the silver and pink that is found inside of it.

cyanidepill4

As seen in the above and below picture, the silver mixed with the yellow, left an abundance of beautifully decorated bubbles floating on top of my bath water.

Another surprise that the Cyanide Pill bath bomb has is the ingredients of popping candy!

cyanidepill5

Despite the sad and rather disturbing story behind how the Cyanide Pill first came about, I can’t help but really like the concept that Lush have come up with in this bath bomb. It is not only a highly moisturising product that creates the most beautiful of baths, it also helps teach another generation things long forgotten about.

I love how each and every Lush product has a meaning. Someone doesn’t ever say ‘ooo let’s mix lemon and almond oil together, just because!’

Every last aspect of a Lush product is carefully picked and designed. Be that a Lush products scent, ingredients, shape or colours, Lush consider and think about everything. Everything has a valid reason for being a part of that Lush product. Almond oil as a main ingredient wasn’t used within the Cyanide Pill bath bomb because it ‘smells nice,’ real cyanide supposedly tastes just like almonds! Eeek!

Every last detail is thought about within a Lush product. I am sad that the people behind all of the research and reasons of a Lush product do not get more credit, they do such an amazing job capturing and portraying an idea into an enjoyable and popular cosmetic product.

If you do ever get the chance to try a Cyanide Pill bath bomb I am positive that you’ll love it, grab a few while you can, Lush products have an awful habit of going into retirement… 😉
