Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb from Lush

shoot-for-the-stars-bath-bombI had this blog post drafted up and ready to post way back in November 2015. It had however unfortunately slipped into the deep and scarily dark land of lost blog posts… I was so sure that I had reviewed it but had convinced myself that I must have dreamt that I had reviewed it.

Although the Shoot for the Stars bath bomb isn’t currently available in the UK, Australia and New Zealand are currently having their yearly ‘Christmas in July’ sale, I’m not sure if this is one of the available products but I will still post this review today anyway. The rest of the world can bask in jealousy of Australia and New Zealand while reading my review.

😉

Without further ado, here are my thoughts on the Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb.

The Shoot for the Stars bath bomb is a blue, yellow and white, honey-lishous, toffee-sweet, ball of bicarbonate magic.

It shares it’s scent with a number of Lush’s most popular products. Some like Shoot for the Stars are seasonal, while others are available throughout the whole year.

The scents name is Honey I Washed the Kids. The Honey I Washed My Hair shampoo bar is probably my favourite out of all of the everyday range products that shares the same mouthwatering scent as Shoot for the Stars. Honey I Washed My Hair is in fact my most bought Lush shampoo bar, I really should pull my socks up and get on with a review for that product too! #Slacking

The Honey I Washed the Kids scent is very sweet, You can detect honey, toffee and hints of gooey caramel. It isn’t however sickly. I have never had much of a sweet tooth and my preferred tastes are the same as my preferred scents. I am so glad that I like this products scent as I was unsure at first. It features in so many Lush products that it would be a crime for me to not like it.

As soon as Shoot for the Stars hits your bath water, blue froth begins to foam out, floating on the top of the water. Yellows and whites soon follow and then a redish pink! The very first time I used Shoot for the stars it’s claret inside was a huge surprise, what I thought to be a pretty but cold coloured bath bomb, heated itself up with the addition of it’s dark red insides.

Another surprise that in my opinion is the cherry on top of this amazing bath bomb, is the addition of miniature confetti stars, they’re tiny and hard to get a photo of but you can see a few in the photo above.

They decorate the dark blue bath water perfectly. It’s like looking at the night sky.

The Shoot for the Stars bath bomb really is the perfect winters treat, I hope that Lush bring it back for the Winter 2016 range as it’s really not one I want to say goodbye to just yet. I still have a few left over from Christmas 2015 and I plan on holding on to them until I know fresh ones are on their way to me! 😉

Sleepy Head Massage Bar from Lush

Sleepy Head Massage Bar.pngThe Sleepy Head Massage Bar is unlike any other that I have had the pleasure of using before. Whenever it is a part of the Lush Kitchen menu I always jump at the chance to get hold of some.

When my very first Sleepy Head Massage Bar arrived I was amazed by how big it was. It’s called a massage bar but looking at it and feeling its weight in my hand makes me think that the term massage ‘brick’ would be a better and more fitting description.

As a diagnosed insomniac anything with the word ‘sleep’ in it catches my eye. Although (thanks to the help of my doctors) my sleeping abilities have improved somewhat, the whole getting enough sleep issue still sits at the back of my mind niggling away. I am very conscious that sleep is an essential part of life and that it is also the key to staying healthy. I used to go days and days without sleep, I don’t even know how I managed to get to work and then how I managed to last the day, week, month. You just do. No sleep however has a knock on effect and it is one that catches up on you all too late.

For people like me, sleeping isn’t a talent we have. Introducing essential oils and Lush Cosmetics into my daily routine has however been a game changer. I’m a huge fan of lavender oil simply because of its soothing properties. It is an extremely versatile essential oil and is useful for a number of things. Being both soothing and antiseptic it is marvellous for skin complaints such as sunburn and insect bites. It is also not just soothing for your skin, lavender is also my go-to-night-time essential oil because it helps clear and calm your body of negativities and stresses, slowly helping you to ease into the right frame of mind for a restful and good nights sleep.

The Sleepy Head Massage Bar lathers up very quickly, with its generous amount of cocoa and shea butter it makes for a real treat for thirsty, weather abused skin.

Its gentle lavender and ylang ylang scent stays with you hours after you have massaged it into your skin. Although as an insomniac I am not the best person to ask whether it made a difference to my sleep pattern, I do know that it helped me drop off to sleep quicker than I would have if I hadn’t have used it at  all. It pairs perfectly with the Lush Spa temple balm.

The lavender in it is useful in both winter and summer therefore making it a perfect massage bar no matter what time of the year it is!

Brightside Bubble Bar from Lush

Out of all of the bubble bars that Lush have on offer, Brightside is the one that I could never, ever get bored of. It is my most used bubble bar to date and in my personal opinion, one of the best bubble bars Lush have ever created.

Its scent is fruitylicious, containing Sicilian mandarin, bergamot and tangerine essential oils it is a citrus junkies dream product.

Within seconds of first picking it up in my local Lush store I was well and truly hooked.

A Brightside bath is both uplifting and refreshing. After a grueling hydrotherapy session I look forward to nothing more than getting home and getting into a beautifully scented, orange-coloured water filled bubble bath. For my tired out, overworked body it works wonders.

What first attracted me to the larger bubble bars such as Brightside was that they can be used over more than one bath. Many people break their Brightside bubble bars in half. I however like to spread mine out over more than just the 2 baths. One Brightside bubble bar can easily be used in 6 to 8 baths. Running the tiniest amount under the hot tap (see photo below) gives you copious amounts of cheery, fluffy-white bubbles.

I have of course experimented using much bigger chunks of the Brightside bubble bar for just the one bath too. It made for a fantastic bath, I just felt as if it was a bit wasteful.

I found that using less gave me just as good as a result which makes it a no brainer, anything that can be made more cost effective without lowering its quality is a winner for me.

A frequently asked question in regards to Lush bubble bars is, ‘How do you use them?‘ It is of course completely up to you.

Some people crumble bits off, followed by holding it in their hand under a running tap, rubbing it gently as the water rinses over it. I however can’t use that method as we currently only have 2 taps on our bath, scalding hot or whoops my hand’s turned to ice cold.

I prefer to have mine broken into chunks, I store them all in jars. When I want a Brightside bath I get a few of the chunks and put them in a tea bag strainer, I then run that under the hot tap, scaled free.

It’s really awkward to try and get a photograph of the bubble bars once in the bath. For a review I want to showcase the water’s colour as well as the amount of bubbles it creates, getting a photo of both in one shot is however very tricky!

The above photo is the best I could get of Brightside in the bath. You’ll have to take my word for it, the mounds of soft white bubbles from the smallest bit of bubble bar fill up your bath effortlessly.

The orange water it creates is also surreal. The first time my boyfriend used a bit of it for his own bath he described it as, ‘having a bath in Fanta.’ I thought exactly the same. Its scent reminds me of orange ice lollies. I describe it as surreal because the first thought that crosses your mind when you’re about to get in it is, ‘it’s got to be sticky to smell this good?!‘ It however isn’t sticky and for me, ever since my first Brightside bath, bath time has never been the same again!

Overall I obviously really, really like this bubble bar. It not only revives my body but my mind too. It makes my skin feel soft and fresh, ready to take on the rest of the day.

It’s name is suited for it perfectly, if you could capture sunshine and happiness and then put it in a bath product you’d get the Brightside bubble bar every single time. It’s really worth a try.
