Carrot Cake Lip Scrub from Lush

Carrot Cake Lip Scrub

Carrot Cake was yet another brand new lip scrub to Lush-this-year. After enjoying Eve’s Cherry lip scrub from Lush’s Valentine’s Day range so much, I was very excited to see yet another lip scrub in the Easter line. The Carrot Cake Lip Scrub comes in the standard glass pot and is jam packed with 25g of lip scrub heaven!

The main ingredient in Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. To this day I am still lost for words that such a basic and natural formula can do such a good job. I use Lush lip scrubs almost every day and they are ridiculously underrated.

Using them requires the minimum of effort and they cover everything your lips need to always look and feel flawless. They are the perfect product to exfoliate dry or chapped lips while also softening and hydrating them at the same time. Exfoliating your lips has so many benefits and has never been easier thanks to Lush.

As well as caster sugar the Carrot Cake lip scrub also contains sea salt, cinnamon, ground almonds and a rather generous helping of carrot seed, toasted hazelnut and Brazilian orange oils. This carefully put together list of ingredients make Carrot Cake truly unique to any other previously released Lush lip scrub.

When you’ve been used to the likes of the Bubblegum lip scrub which has very little ingredients in other than just caster sugar, the newer lip scrubs with the ingredients lists as long as your arm are a lot more interesting and have both much more complex scents and flavours. The introduction of other ingredients including essential oils has enabled Lush to expand on what used to be quite a bland format of products.

Upon opening the Carrot Cake lip scrubs lid you are greeted with a bright orange sugar-scrub-formula. It smells delicious. The lip scrub is not quite how I think carrot cake actually smells but close enough for me to warrant giving it a go. The toasted hazelnut oil really shines through scent wise, it adds a really smokiness to its scent and flavour.

Like the other very recently released Cookie Dough lip scrub, the Carrot Cakes formula isn’t as chunky. It actually has a really soft sand-like-texture. At first I thought this would mean the lip scrub wouldn’t be as exfoliating as its lip scrub predecessors but I was left pleasantly surprised, the less-coarse formula actually works just as well, It’s almost as if the finer consistency helps the level of exfoliation go that little bit further.

A little amount of the Carrot Cake lip scrub goes a very, very long way. I would however recommend using a lip balm or gloss after using it just because it can be a little drying without. A quick coat of lip balm after using the Carrot Cake lip scrub will help keep your lips looking their best.

Overall I really did like the Carrot Cake lip scrub, it smells like gorgeous baked goodies, tastes ok and does a very good job. I’d still say that the aforementioned Eve’s Cherry lip scrub is my favourite though. I can’t wait to see what lip scrubs Lush come up with next…

Groovy Kind of Love Shower Gel from Lush

While the Groovy Kind of Love Shower Gel wasn’t the shower gel I was most excited about in Lush’s latest community release, I did really enjoy the latest edition of its bath bomb equivalent so thought it was worth giving the shower gel a go too.

The newest version of the Groovy Kind of Love bath bomb not only shares its scent with this brand new shower gel but also with the long ago, discontinued Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar. Bright orange in colour, it wouldn’t be silly of you to mistake this shower gel for Easter 2017’s Wash Behind Your Ears shower gel.

While it looks similar to Wash Behind your Ears, the Groovy Kind of Love shower gel is that little bit brighter of an orange. It doesn’t glow quite in the same was as the Calacas shower gel but it does positively beam warm-orange-happiness and sweet-summer vibes!

One of my favourite of all ingredients that Lush frequently use in some of their products is bergamot oil, one of my favourite bergamot based products being the Dragon’s Egg bath bomb. Bergamots scent is much like an orange and lime combined and is often described as ‘sunshine in a bottle’. Making it fit right in with my visual interpretation of the shower gels sunshine-summery colour.

The Groovy Kind of Love shower gel contains bergamot, ylang ylang, rosewood oil and fresh orange juice. Its scent is sweet, fruity and oozes happiness.

Its scent is not quite as bergamoty as I’d have liked but it isn’t a scent that is at all unpleasant. For a citrusy scent it’s quite gentle and therefore may appeal to others that prefer the fruity scents that are less in-your-face and more subtle.

Consistency wise the Groovy Kind of Love shower gel is just how I like it, not so thick that you can hardly get it out of the bottle and not too thin that you lose it all at the slightest tip of the bottle. A little amount of the shower gel goes a VERY LONG way and it lathers up quickly and efficiently.

Its scent once in the shower does intensify ever so slightly but again it’s still a rather subtle scent. I find it quite hydrating on the skin too, it’s almost more of a shower cream than a shower gel in my personal opinion. I must admit its scent didn’t last that long on my skin once out of the shower but I was left feeling clean and fresh.

Overall I can see why Lush decided to expand the Groovy Kind of Love scented products collection, while it’s not a scent I have fallen deeply in love with I can see it appealing to those that do enjoy the less intense scents.

Dear John Bath Bomb from Lush

Dear John Bath Bomb

The never-before-been-released Dear John Bath Bomb left a surprising impression on me, it was one of a few products that made up the small, 2019 Father’s Day collection.

When you have lost a parent or have become estranged from a parent, Father’s and Mother’s Day can be quite hard.

This year both of Lush’s Mothers and Fathers day collections were much more subtle than those from previous years, they weren’t so in-your-face-obvious Mother and Father’s Day products and for the reason mentioned above, I think this was a wise decision from Lush.

The Dear John bath bomb doesn’t turn heads in quite the same way as the more colourful Lush bath bombs do.

Just like the original So White bath bomb Dear John has a crisp-white exterior. As you can see in the photos each Dear John bath bomb is decorated with several blue fountain-pen-like ink splatters.

The fragrance of the Dear John bath bomb was made by Mark Constantine (co founder of Lush) in relation to his estranged father. An estranged father is something that both Mark and I have in common, strangely enough both of ours also share the same first name.

I’ve never really opened up about how not having a permanent father-figure in my life has affected me. Yes it has been hard and I am envious of people that have good relationships with their father.

I don’t hate my father and have his phone number, I just wish things could be/could have been different growing up. I have always been a little ‘meh’ about the Lush Father’s Day range because of this, seeing it all is just a reminder of something I don’t really have.

With the whole range being Dear John orientated it was however impossible to avoid this year! 😝 I also must admit that I am a recently converted fan of the Dear John scent.

The Dear John bath bomb contains cedarwood, coriander seed, clove bud and vetivert oils. A fine and smokey blend of ingredients that I wouldn’t ordinarily reach out for.

phonto-127

Others say different but to me the Dear John bath bombs scent is very similar to the scent of the Big Blue bath bomb, to my nose it’s very alike but has an extra smokey layer to it. Some say it has elements of coffee in it too, I however can’t detect any coffee myself.

When Dear John is first placed into the bath water a small fizzle of white bubbly froth disperses out of it, when I first used it I thought that it was going to be an all white show until there was a sudden burst of blue bubbly froth!

phonto-128

What I thought was going to be just a pleasantly scented, plain white bath bomb suddenly turned into a pleasantly scented explosion of beautiful deep blue too. I did not expect the Dear John bath bomb to contain such a delightful treasure!

As Dear John fizzled away, slowly turning the bath water a dark and very inviting shade of blue its scent softens somewhat becoming musky and warming, I couldn’t help but notice how soft my skin felt within seconds of immersing myself into its waters.

Although it was a fairly quick fizzer this didn’t take away from the Dear John bath bomb experience. I’d normally reach for the Twilight or Blackberry bath bomb if I was looking for a relaxing bath and was pleasantly surprised with how relaxed the Dear John bath bomb left me feeling.

Overall I am really impressed with this bath bomb and am very sad to see it leave Lush stores now that Father’s Day is through. Thankfully Lush have released several other products with the exact same scent so I have a few to play with. I will of course be reviewing them all on here over the next few weeks!
