Frankenstein Bath Bomb from Lush

The Frankenstein Bath Bomb is a brand-new product from Lush’s 2024 Halloween line. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re likely to recognise the bath bomb immediately as a Frankenstein-themed-item.

What a lot of people don’t know is that Frankenstein isn’t the name of the monster, it is the name of the scientist who created the monster, Victor Frankenstein! Everything you see around Halloween that’s Frankenstein themed is all based on a book written by Mary Shelley in 1818…

This bath bomb is designed to look just like the monster did in what I believe was the first film adaptation of the book. Since, most other adaptations of the monster from the book (including this Lush bath bomb) have had a similar look.

The Frankenstein bath bomb is a cartoonish version of Frankenstein’s monster; It is in the shape of the monster’s face. It is mostly green has a flat, black and very buzz-cut looking, short haircut.

There are also a lot of little details such as its exaggerated facial features. It has big sunken in yellow eyes, bolts in his head and an intense and very grumpy looking frown upon his face.

Each Frankenstein bath bomb is approximately 130g each fitting snuggly in my hand. It was the first of the brand new Halloween bath bombs that I tried.

Frankenstein’s fragrance is a brand new Lush-scent-family and one I am very excited about. Each bath bomb contains galbanum oil, pine oil, geranium oil and fir balsam resinoid.

It has a fresh, green fragrance with a delicate floral undertone. It’s crisp, woody and just smells super clean and refreshing. It’s not as forest-like as the likes of the Guardian of the Forest bath bomb, it’s sweeter and has an almost balsamic richness to it, it’s incredibly moreish.

I hope this isn’t the only product Lush decide to use this scent-family for as I can see it working well as a shower gel or perfume too.

As soon as the Frankenstein bath bomb touches the water there is a huge hiss followed by an explosion of green foam. It’s refreshing, natural scent takes over your bathroom as it slowly dissolves away.

The black ‘hair’ part of the bath bomb appears to dissolve more slowly than the rest, but I think the reason behind this is, where the ‘hair’ is, is only a thin coating of black, it being green underneath.

After just a couple of minutes the water reaches the bath bombs yellow eyes, it starts to spin, as you can see in the photo below it kind of looks like the monster is shooting yellow laser beams from its eyes!

Eventually the water takes over the whole of the bath bomb and all the monster’s features melt away. You are left with bright green bath water decorated with lighter green and black bubbles as shown in the photo below.

The Frankenstein bath bomb is a reasonably slow dissolver taking 12 minutes in total to completely disappear.

The water underneath the bath art is such a bright green it almost glows, I don’t think we’ve seen a bath bomb produce green water as bright as this since the 2016 version of the So White bath bomb.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the Frankenstein bath bomb. I find it a little crazy that a book written so long ago still has such a heavy influence on Halloween and all things spooky.

The scent doesn’t last for very long on my skin once I have got out of the bath, but my skin does feel softer and appears much brighter too.

I’m hoping that this bath bomb isn’t the last we see of this new Lush-scent-family as it’s so unique to everything else Lush currently have on offer. I believe this scent would very easily fit into the Spring season too!

NEW Screamo Bath Bomb from Lush

The Screamo Bath Bomb was a brand-new, limited-edition product that was first released as a part of Lush’s 2022 Halloween line. This year (2023) Lush decided to bring it back BUT with a slightly different appearance.

Any horror-movie-buff could see that last years version of the bath bomb was clearly inspired by the film, Scream. A very little change has made the bath bomb now look more like the scared face in The Scream painting by Edvard Munch.

The Screamo bath bomb now has a bright-white screaming face with 3 dark blue egg-shaped holes for its eyes and mouth.

Before the Screamo bath bombs first release, Lush had actually released a reusable bubble bar equivalent of it back in 2021. It however didn’t sell well due to it falling apart immediately after first use, sometimes even before you’d had a chance to use it like mine did, the reason why I never got round to reviewing it.

With the Screamo bath bomb making a return for yet another Halloween, it seems Lush were wise to reimagine the Screamo reusable bubble bar into a bath bomb.

The Screamo bath bomb contains a long list of ingredients, some of them include; benzoin resinoid, ylang ylang and almond essential oils. It has a rich and incredibly sharp, cherry-almond scent. It’s mouth-wateringly yummy!

At 100g the 2023 version of the Screamo bath bomb is a whole 20g lighter than its predecessor. It fits snuggly in my hand it’s a little bit bigger than the Butterbear bath bomb and a little bit smaller than the Ghostie bath bomb.

With Screamo’s contrasting white and royal-blue colours I knew that the bath art it would create would be dramatic to say the least.

As soon as the Screamo bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with an explosion of royal-blue foam. Blue bubbles slowly fizzle out of it as the bath bomb floats upon the surface of the water.

The photos I have included in this review do the Screamo bath bomb no justice at all. While the bath art it creates is mainly blue with small streaks of white it was still incredibly mesmerising to watch in action.

Underneath the blue foam, the water turns a deeply inviting and very sparkly, royal-blue.

As the bath bomb slowly dissolves away the bath water becomes softer and softer, almost silky like. Screamo takes a good 10 to 12 minutes to fully dissolve.

As I said earlier, the Screamo bath bomb creates the most incredibly soft bathwater and I found that it left my skin feeling hydrated and silky-smooth too.

The bath bombs delicious cherry-almond scent is what really sells this bath bomb to me though. Its moreish scent can still be smelt on your skin for the best part of the rest of the day once you’re out of the bath too.

Overall, I really do enjoy using the Screamo bath bomb BUT I’d have much preferred for the Big Foot bath bomb from the 2022 Halloween line to have made a return instead.

Mean Green Mother from Outerspace Bubble Bar from Lush

The Mean Green Mother from Outerspace Bubble Bar was an exclusive product included in the October 2022’s Lush Kitchen subscription box. Inspired by the man-eating plant in the Little Shop of Horrors, the Mean Green Mother from Outerspace bubble bar fits right into the boxes chilling-Halloween-theme.

Going forward, I am now going to refer to the Mean Green Mother from Outerspace bubble bar as just Mean Green to save us both sometime. I do wonder if Lush give their products long names to not only make them stand out but to get on our nerves a little bit too. 😉

The Mean Green bubble bar is approximately 100g, for comparison purposes the bestselling Brightside bubble bar is 200g – twice its size. Yes, the Mean Green bubble bar may be on the smaller side but if I have learnt anything from the hundreds of Lush bubble bars that I have tried before now, size doesn’t dictate a bubble bars true bubble-potential…

The Mean Green bubble bar contains the following essential oils: lime, olibanum resinoid and neroli. It shares its scent with the Calacas shower gel, Monsters’ Ball bath bomb and from this year’s Halloween line (2022) the Big Foot bath bomb.

Lush’s Calacas scent family is one of my all-time favourites, I can never get enough of it. Its lime led scent is both uplifting and zingy. Lush have combined oil of lime, neroli and olibanum to make the perfect pick-me-up scent. Bathing in a Mean Green bath will reinvigorate your mind, body and soul.

Some describe the Calacas scent as being very similar to the sweets, fruit pastilles. I adore its scent, Lush have yet to use it in a product I haven’t loved!

To use the Mean Green bubble bar, I put broken up pieces of it into a small sieve and let the running bath-water trickle over it. I find this the most effective way to use Lush’s single use bubble bars. This method is also the best way to ensure none of the bubble bar gets accidentally wasted and through trial and error, I have found that this method makes the most bubbles.

One of my favourite things about Lush’s bubble bars is that unlike their bath bombs, bubble bars can be spread out over several baths.

I got 2 adequately bubbled bubble baths out of just the one Mean Green bubble bar without it hindering the quality of it at all. HOWEVER, I think I could have easily spread the bubble bar out over 3 baths. It may be a small bubble bar but a little amount of it certainly goes a very long way!

Once the bubble bar pieces are put under the running tap, it doesn’t take very long at all for the blanket of fluffy white bubble to form. Underneath the blanket of bubbles the water turns a glorious bright green.

A Mean Green bubble bath leaves your skin feeling as soft as silk. After getting out of the bath its beautiful lime and neroli fragrance also lasts on your skin for the rest of the day. There’s no need to lotion up once you’re out of the bath either as it leaves your skin super-hydrated.

Overall, I am clearly head over heels in love with the Mean Green Mother from Outerspace bubble bar. I am a little confused as to why it didn’t make it into the actual Halloween range this year, it’s a crime that it was only available in the Lush Kitchen Subscription Box!
