The Old Songs Are Waking Sugar Scrub from Lush

The Old Songs Are Waking Sugar Scrub is a brand-new, limited-edition product from Lush’s 2024 Mother’s Day line. I was lucky enough to get to try it before its initial release as Lush gifted me a pot. Since, I have bought myself another pot which I think speaks volumes on how much I like the product!

Back in August 2023 Lush released the Barbie Dream sugar scrub and I have never loved an exfoliation product from Lush more. I was therefore over the moon to see that The Old Songs Are Waking was also a sugar scrub. Mark my words, sugar scrubs are Lush’s next bestsellers, there’s just something so special about them.

The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub contains caster sugar, fair trade organic cocoa butter, babassu oil, extra virgin coconut oil, tonka absolute, vanilla absolute, bergamot oil and olibanum resinoid. As you can see in the photo below, the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub is a swirl of blue and white with a generous sprinkling of golden lustre. It looks almost too pretty to use.

Scent-wise, the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub is complicated but delicious. By complicated I mean almost impossible to describe, it’s sweet and fruity but also has non-sickly candy-like elements to it too. The tonka and vanilla absolutes mixed with the bergamot oil is a blend made in heaven. It smells so clean and fresh; I could imagine the scent selling well as a laundry detergent.

Consistency-wise, the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub is really thick, it’s most like the Barbie Dream sugar scrub I mentioned earlier but has elements of the Intergalactic body scrub too.

On the pot it says that it is a ‘smoothing sugar scrub that calls for you to sing while you bathe or shower’. After scooping out a small amount, I lathered it up and went straight to work with it.

I advise rubbing the sugar scrub in, in small, circular motions followed by rinsing it off. A small amount of the scrub goes a very long way, and I was pleasantly surprised at just how quickly it lathered up too.

I am just as impressed with the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub for exfoliation as I was the Barbie Dream sugar scrub. Lush really do need to make more sugar scrubs in all of their best-selling scents, all of the ones that have been released so far have been absolutely incredible.

I speak so highly of Lush’s sugar scrubs because of how they make my skin feel after using them. Lush’s new sugar-scrub-formula is really gentle but so incredibly scrubby at the same time.

With both the Barbie Dream and the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrubs, Lush have balanced the ratio of caster sugar and skin-moisturising ingredients perfectly. The Old Songs Are Waking is just as buttery as it is scrubby. It’s one of the best exfoliators I have ever used. There’s no need for body lotion afterwards and my skin has never looked so bright.

Overall, I am more than a little obsessed with the, The Old Songs Are Waking sugar scrub. I hope that Lush decide to make a sugar scrub a part of their main line (instead of just a limited-edition product) soon. I’d be more than happy for the, The Old Songs Are Waking to be a main line sugar scrub but am also excited to see what other sugar scrubs Lush can make us!

Inner Dragon Bath Bomb from Lush

The Inner Dragon Bath Bomb is a product specifically made for the Lunar New Year celebrations. It was released at the start of 2024, ready and waiting for the start of the year of the dragon!

In years previous to 2024, Lush have created other Lunar new year products such as the Lucky Tiger bath bomb, Dragon Legend reusable bubble bar and Gold Rabbit bath bomb.

All of them were favourites of mine when they were released, so I was incredibly excited to see that Lush had once again decided to celebrate the Lunar New Year with another year-of-the bath bomb.

The Inner Dragon bath bomb is just a little bit smaller than the standard sized bath bomb (such as Twilight) weighing in at 190g.

All of the Lunar New Year products have shared similar colours, consisting of oranges, reds and gold. Inner Dragon is however Lush’s most complicated Lunar new year bath bomb yet. It’s a standard shaped red bath bomb with a golden dragon wrapped around it.

Lush have released a similar bath bomb before with the Tengri bath bomb, Tengri also had a dragon wrapped around it. The Inner Dragon bath bomb however has a much more identifiable dragon and I suspect this will make it sell a lot better than Tengri did.

The Inner Dragon is so incredibly detailed that it makes it almost impossible to believe that Lush bath bombs are all hand pressed.

Since 3D printing technology has improved (making it possible for more complicated bath-bomb-mould designs) the details of Lush bath bombs keep getting better and better.

Inner Dragons scent is from Lush’s scent family, Big. It’s a popular Lush scent that I’m very happy to have in a more affordable bath bomb form.

The Inner Dragon bath bomb contains a long list of ingredients including the likes of: Sicilian red mandarin oil, vanilla absolute, orange flower absolute, ginger powder, and mandarin powder.

Its scent is hard to explain but to me it always reminds me of eating vanilla ice cream at the beach. It’s refreshing while also being warm and uplifting.

As soon as the Inner Dragon bath bomb touches the water you are greeted with a huge hiss and mounds of bright orange foam. The first time I used it I was so surprised at the amount of foam in such a short period of time that I almost dropped the bath bomb before I could take the below photo!

It doesn’t take long for red bubbles to appear from the bath bomb too, creating orange and red swirls decorated with golden lustre.

With the Inner Dragon bath bomb dissolving so quickly (just under 3 minutes) I didn’t manage to capture any bath art photos but the oranges and reds coming out of it (even though for a very short amount of time) were spectacular to watch.

The Water left behind by the Inner Dragon bath bomb is a blood-orange colour. With it being such a fast fizzer, it leaves you with plenty of time to sit back and relax in its skin-soothingly-perfect waters. I can still smell its gentle scent on my skin for the rest of the day. It also left my skin feeling soft and refreshed right into the next day too.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Inner Dragon bath bomb, it’s a fantastic product inspired by a beautifully reflective and special time of year. I am looking forward to seeing what Lush come up with for Lunar new year, 2025!

Sweet Talk Lip Scrub from Lush

The main ingredient in all of Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. To this day I am still lost for words that such a simple and natural mix of ingredients can do such a great job at exfoliating. It really does make me question why other cosmetic companies ever actively chose to use micro-plastics in their exfoliation products.

Lush’s lip scrubs are ridiculously underrated, if you’re on the fence about giving them a go I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Today I am going to be reviewing the Sweet Talk Lip Scrub from Lush’s 2024 Valentine’s Day line. I use Lush lip scrubs almost every day so whenever a new one comes out, I always make sure I grab a pot.

Using Lush lip scrubs requires a minimum amount of effort, and they cover everything your lips need to always look and feel their best. They are the perfect product to exfoliate dry or chapped lips, and most are also very good at softening and hydrating them at the same time. Exfoliating your lips has so many benefits and thanks to Lush, it has never been easier to do.

As well as caster sugar, the Sweet Talk lip scrub also contains organic jojoba oil, sweet wild orange oil, rose oil, vanilla absolute and cold pressed raspberry seed oil.

Sweet Talk isn’t the first lip scrub to be made by Lush with this scent/flavour either. Back in 2017 a blue version of it was made and named the Lush Puppy lip scrub.

Sweet Talk lip scrub may smell and taste almost identical to Lush Puppy it is however bright pink, allowing it to fit right into the theme of Valentine’s Day. I always thought it was a crime for Lush to not make the Lush Puppy lip scrub more readily available so when I found out Sweet Talk was so similar I was over the moon.

Lush’s lip scrubs are obviously not meant to be eaten; BUT if a little amount of Sweet Talk does accidently end up in your mouth while you are scrubbing your lips, you don’t need to worry. Some taste better than others but I don’t mind licking off Sweet Scrub after I’ve used it.

I tend to favour the lighter or more natural toactual lip-colour lip scrubs over the brightly coloured ones because I find that the highly pigmented scrubs can sometimes leave your lips with a slight tint of whatever colour the lip scrub is. I am however pleased to report that during use, I haven’t had any colour transfer from the Sweet Talk lip scrub at all. Not that, that would be a huge problem though as it is pink.

Even though I’m usually not a huge fan of super sweet Lush products, I do actually like the smell/taste of the Sweet Talk lip scrub. It’s not the same, sickly-sweet as the Bubblegum lip scrub (and much like the Lush Puppy version of this same lip scrub) it really reminds me of the raspberry flavoured Slush Puppy drink.

A little amount of Sweet Talk goes a long way and it’s the perfect amount of scrubby. The grains in it are about the same size of sugar granules (unlike the Cookie Dough lip scrub that’s texture is more like fine salt).

After using the Sweet Talk lip scrub my lips feel smoother and I also find the formula quite hydrating which isn’t the case for a lot of Lush’s lip scrubs.

Overall, I love the Sweet Talk lip scrub, I’d love to see Lush bring back the lip balm equivalent (Passion Fruit lip balm) or make a lip butter in its scent in the near future!
