Chelsea Morning Bath Bomb from Lush

Today I am reviewing the brand-new Chelsea Morning Bath Bomb from Lush’s 2024 World Bath Bomb Day collection.

I’m always honest in my reviews and the first thing I thought when my Chelsea Morning bath bomb arrived in the post was how unique it looked. 

To me, it looks like Lush have cut two very different bath bombs in half and stuck the wrong bits back together to make a new bath bomb in a sort of Frankenstein-style way.

Looks wise, the bottom blue and white half resembles the Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds bath bomb while the orange top reminds me of something you’d get as a sweet treat after dinner.

A quick Google of the phrase Chelsea Morning has told me that it’s the name of a song that was released in 1969.

The Chelsea Morning bath bomb contains tonka absolute, lemon myrtle oil, fenugreek absolute and vanilla absolute.

It is a brand-new Lush scent so hasn’t featured in any other Lush product at the time of writing this review.

Its scent is warm and sweet; It resembles butterscotch which really reminds me of my nan, she absolutely adored butterscotch sweets, even after she lost her false teeth she still managed to get through bags and bags of them every day.

Lush describe the Chelsea Morning bath bomb as having ‘an orange top resembling sunlight and a base of blue sky and clouds.’

Lush also say that this bath bomb is best enjoyed when used in the tub with the morning sun pouring through the window. Which is similar to the lyrics found in the 1969 song of the same name.

Just like the majority of the other bath bombs from the World Bath Bomb Day collection such as the Brother Moon bath bomb, Time of the Season bath bomb and Passion bath bomb, the Chelsea Morning bath bombs are approximately 180g each.

As soon as the Chelsea Morning bath bomb encounters your bath water there is an explosion of thick orange foam from its top, and thick white and blue foam from its bottom.

It slowly foams away as the whole of the bath bomb becomes submerged. It doesn’t take long for the bath bomb to start spinning.

I must admit, I was expecting more from the Chelsea Morning bath bomb bath art wise; It spat out plenty of colour, but it stayed so foamy that it just formed mounds of orange and white bubbles instead of the traditional bath art swirls I’m used to from a colourful, Lush bath bomb.

I also found that its scent wasn’t very strong once in the water, if you like the sweet-food-scents but find the stronger ones sickly, this could be a good bath bomb for you, but for me I really wanted to be able to smell the butterscotch scent in it more.

The Chelsea Morning bath bomb took about 7 minutes to fully dissolve. I am wondering if I got a bit of a dud as I have seen photos of it online that don’t quite match up to my experience of it.

Sometimes with bath bombs you’ve had for a while, once wet they just turn to mush, my Chelsea Morning bath bomb didn’t quite turn to mush but I think had I have left using it for any longer, it may have meant I wouldn’t even have got the colourful bubbles that I did (see below photo).

Saying all of that, I really hadn’t had it for that long though, a few weeks at most. Most of my bath bombs are still perfect if not used even after several months, which again leads me to believe that maybe I did just have a dud.

I am a little sad as I did really want to love this bath bomb, its scent when the bath bomb is in your hand is incredible but once it goes into the water it seems to dilute it to the point that the scent is so faint it is almost undetectable.

The water left behind is a deep and inviting shade of blood orange, it’s soft to touch and left my skin hydrated and silky smooth.

Normally at this point of a bath bomb review I’d tell you how the fragrance had transferred to my skin once I was out of the bath, unfortunately I couldn’t smell it on my skin at all. This however could be a positive for customers who like more subtle Lush scents.

Overall, I did enjoy using the Chelsea Morning bath bomb, but I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore. For me personally I just would have liked its scent to be a little stronger during use.

Dinosaur in a Crisis Bath Bomb from Lush

The Dinosaur in a Crisis Bath Bomb is a brand-new, limited-edition release that is a part of the small but exciting, 2024 Father’s Day line.

Dinosaur in a Crisis is a green, dinosaur shaped bath bomb with a sprinkle of golden coloured sea salt decorating its bottom.

This bath bomb is said to have a very similar back story to the Toby’s Magic Cow bath bomb, a young Lush fan wrote a letter to Lush about a dinosaur in a crisis (if we can have a crisis, so can a dinosaur) and with that the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb was born!

What I really like about the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb is that it’s a Father’s Day product that isn’t an in-your-face Father’s Day product. 

The Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb contains course sea salt, lavender oil, litsea cubeba oil, rose absolute, lavender powder and rose petal powder.

Its scent is where this product gets really interesting… It’s actually two Lush scent families thrown into one; It’s a mixture of the scent of the Sleepy shower gel and the scent of the Rose Jam shower gel.

Before now and quite recently, I have disliked a bath bomb made up of two Lush scent families (the Two Families bath bomb) because I felt too overwhelmed, the Sleepy and Rose Jam scents of Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb however complement each other perfectly.

Lavender and rose scents are often associated with older generations of people, for example some say a ‘granny smell’ but the Dinosaur in a Crisis’ scent doesn’t smell old at all, in fact quite the opposite! It’s a really soothing blend of rose and lavender, that I can see all generations enjoying.

Each of the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bombs are approximately 85g each fitting easily in my hand. Out of all the bath bombs available at the time of writing this review, Dinosaur in a Crisis happens to be one of Lush’s cheapest.

As soon as the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb comes into contact with your bath water it begins to foam up. There is an explosion of green. The gentle scent of rose and lavender fills your bathroom as the Dinosaur in a Crisis fizzes away.

After a minute or so, the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb sinks to the bottom of the bath. I know most customers prefer the bath bombs that stay afloat but the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb doesn’t create any bath art so you’re not missing out on anything by it being a ‘sinker’.

When bath bombs like this do sink, I like to just lay back and let the little bubbles tickle my back; I find it incredibly relaxing.

The Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb is a very quick dissolver, it took just over four minutes to fully dissolve. The scent hangs around your bathroom long after you’ve pulled the plug and although subtle, it lasts on your skin for a good few hours too.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb. I love its name and the story behind it, it’s a good price and smells great too.

I hope that Lush decide to bring the Dinosaur in a Crisis’ scent out as a perfume or body spray one day. A bold statement from me, considering I really disliked the last scent-family-mix they did.

There’s just something so relaxing about rose and lavender together, I just love the Dinosaur in a Crisis bath bomb!

Happy Hippy Body Lotion from Lush

At the time of writing this review the Happy Hippy Body Lotion was an exclusive item only ever available in the 49th Lush Kitchen Subscription Box.

The Happy Hippy scent is one of Lush’s older scent families and therefore considered one of their retro fragrances. It was created long before I became a Lushie and has always been popular.

The Happy Hippy body lotion shares its scent with the Happy Hippy shower gel and half of the Happy Pill bath bomb.

The Happy Hippy scent is best described as a light grapefruit fragrance; Normally grapefruit scents are super bitter and quite often so strong that just one sniff can make you wince, the Happy Hippy scent is however very gentle, making it quite a unique grapefruit-based-scent.

Happy Hippy’s scent although gentle still has a lot of power, it adds a spring to your step but without blowing your head off; It’s the ideal fragrance for those that want a boost without a heavy scent.

Some of the ingredients included in the body lotion are almond oil, fair trade organic cocoa butter, grapefruit oil, bergamot oil and olibanum oil.

The Happy Hippy body lotion came in a 250g bottle which really impressed me as last month’s Lush Kitchens subscription box’s body lotion (the Tender is the Night body lotion) was only 100g.

The body lotion itself is a very light shade of yellow, in some lights it could almost be white. Whenever I see a Lush body lotion sold in a bottle and not in their standard black pots, I think it may be because it has a runny consistency. Happy Hippy is however thick and creamy much like the recently released Let the Good Times Roll body lotion.

It’s not too thick that it takes forever to rub in and not so runny that you accidentally waste it when getting it out of the bottle. In my opinion, the consistency is more or less perfect for a body lotion.

A small amount of the Happy Hippy body lotion goes a very long way. This is one of my favourite things about Lush, their products may be a little more expensive because you’re paying for important extras like ethically sourced ingredients, but you really do get a lot of product for your money when so little of it goes so far.

The scent of the Happy Hippy body lotion doesn’t last for very long, I’ve tried to use more to see if that helps but it’s always very subtle at best; Not everyone likes big, bold scents though. Although its scent isn’t strong it does leave my skin looking and feeling well nourished. It feels particularly good on my legs after shaving.

I haven’t used it alongside the shower gel with the same scent yet but would be interested to know if this makes the scent go a little further?

It is quite often the case that citrusy scents don’t have as much staying power as others and sadly the Happy Hippy body lotions scent doesn’t last on my skin for any more than an hour, BUT I do still really like it.

It’s an ideal body lotion if you’re a fan of more subtle fragrances, I can see myself using this daily. Especially when I’m not in the mood for smothering myself in stronger scents.
