Out of the never ending collection of Lush scents, I would say that Twilight is a firm favourite throughout the whole of the Lush community. So much so that it appears in a variety of different Lush products released all through the year.

The most common product with its scent at the time of writing this review is the all-year-round and much loved Twilight bath bomb.

The Twilight shower gel is overflowing with some of the world’s most soothing, natural ingredients. Tonka, lavender and benzoin essential oils have each been carefully selected to create a calming and relaxing shower gel. It’s the perfect partner for a night time shower or soak.

The first time I came across the Twilight scent was actually in its bath bomb format. When I very first got into Lush I had been slowly working my way through just the bubble bars. After a month or two of visiting my local store, I decided that it was about time I explored some of the other products too. That day I picked up the Twilight bath bomb and ever since I have been a hardcore fan.

Lavender as I am sure you will all know, is said to lull you into a relaxed state of mind, which in turn aids restful sleep. Although I can’t give the Twilight shower gel all of the credit, ever since using it I have been able to drop off much easier, which is a huge success considering I had previously struggled to fall asleep full stop!

Whenever the Twilight shower gel is in the Lush Kitchen I try to get hold of at least one bottle. My boyfriend is (unfortunately for me) also a fan of the shower gel. It is a shower gel made to last, a little of it goes a very long way, the tiniest amount of product can easily wash your whole body, leaving your skin refreshed and hydrated.

My boyfriend however uses it by the gallon, I honestly cannot keep up with him and neither can the Lush Kitchen. He over indulges with nearly all of the Lush shower gels and shower creams but Twilight is one of his clear favourites as it never lasts long in our bathroom.

I get that his excess use of it is his luxury but it really gets my back up, it really isn’t necessary to use gallons and gallons of it as, as I said above a little really does go a long, long way. Plus it’s mine, go and get your own Joe!

Lush products may be a tad more expensive than the average drugstore product but taking into account that all Lush products have fresh, natural and cruelty free ingredients I think it’s worth splashing a little out on. That is unless you find yourself living with Joe, IF IT’S NOT NAILED DOWN HE WILL HAVE IT, get yourself a Lush safe decorated with barbed wire 😉

Older versions of the Twilight shower gel were quite runny. The more recently made ones from the last 3 or 4 times it has been in the Lush Kitchen have however been a thicker formula. This small change has made this already great shower gel so much better. It lathers up much easier and its scent stays with you for several hours after using it.

My skin feels soft and hydrated after using Twilight shower gel. If you haven’t tried Twilight shower gel yet I strongly advise that you do. It features in the Lush Kitchen a lot so if you missed out on the batch sold earlier this week don’t panic, it’ll be back soon!

Brightside Bubble Bar from Lush

Out of all of the bubble bars that Lush have on offer, Brightside is the one that I could never, ever get bored of. It is my most used bubble bar to date and in my personal opinion, one of the best bubble bars Lush have ever created.

Its scent is fruitylicious, containing Sicilian mandarin, bergamot and tangerine essential oils it is a citrus junkies dream product.

Within seconds of first picking it up in my local Lush store I was well and truly hooked.

A Brightside bath is both uplifting and refreshing. After a grueling hydrotherapy session I look forward to nothing more than getting home and getting into a beautifully scented, orange-coloured water filled bubble bath. For my tired out, overworked body it works wonders.

What first attracted me to the larger bubble bars such as Brightside was that they can be used over more than one bath. Many people break their Brightside bubble bars in half. I however like to spread mine out over more than just the 2 baths. One Brightside bubble bar can easily be used in 6 to 8 baths. Running the tiniest amount under the hot tap (see photo below) gives you copious amounts of cheery, fluffy-white bubbles.

I have of course experimented using much bigger chunks of the Brightside bubble bar for just the one bath too. It made for a fantastic bath, I just felt as if it was a bit wasteful.

I found that using less gave me just as good as a result which makes it a no brainer, anything that can be made more cost effective without lowering its quality is a winner for me.

A frequently asked question in regards to Lush bubble bars is, ‘How do you use them?‘ It is of course completely up to you.

Some people crumble bits off, followed by holding it in their hand under a running tap, rubbing it gently as the water rinses over it. I however can’t use that method as we currently only have 2 taps on our bath, scalding hot or whoops my hand’s turned to ice cold.

I prefer to have mine broken into chunks, I store them all in jars. When I want a Brightside bath I get a few of the chunks and put them in a tea bag strainer, I then run that under the hot tap, scaled free.

It’s really awkward to try and get a photograph of the bubble bars once in the bath. For a review I want to showcase the water’s colour as well as the amount of bubbles it creates, getting a photo of both in one shot is however very tricky!

The above photo is the best I could get of Brightside in the bath. You’ll have to take my word for it, the mounds of soft white bubbles from the smallest bit of bubble bar fill up your bath effortlessly.

The orange water it creates is also surreal. The first time my boyfriend used a bit of it for his own bath he described it as, ‘having a bath in Fanta.’ I thought exactly the same. Its scent reminds me of orange ice lollies. I describe it as surreal because the first thought that crosses your mind when you’re about to get in it is, ‘it’s got to be sticky to smell this good?!‘ It however isn’t sticky and for me, ever since my first Brightside bath, bath time has never been the same again!

Overall I obviously really, really like this bubble bar. It not only revives my body but my mind too. It makes my skin feel soft and fresh, ready to take on the rest of the day.

It’s name is suited for it perfectly, if you could capture sunshine and happiness and then put it in a bath product you’d get the Brightside bubble bar every single time. It’s really worth a try.

Northern Lights Bath Bomb from Lush

Although the Northern Lights bath bomb is in my opinion, more fragile than glass. I can never pass up the chance to order them when they appear in the Lush Kitchen. Broken or whole, the Northern Lights bath bomb’s fragility does not effect its bath time performance levels. I can never get photographs of it in action that showcase its true potential. It makes for a beautiful bath and it’s one that you really do have to try at least once.

My last batch of Northern Lights bath bombs where from the Lush Kitchen a good few months ago. As soon as you unwrap it the scent really hits you. It’s incredibly strong and dominates anything else around it.

It actually took me a little while to get used to its scent, while my bath was running I was almost convinced that it was too strong a scent for me… By the end of my very first Northern Lights bath I was however a super fan, becoming desperate to use it again.

Northern Lights with Stars

Most bath bombs are sphere shaped, the Northern Lights bath bomb is however quite unique. It is a large, cylinder shaped bath bomb. Boasting the most gorgeous shade of purple as well as being decorated with a sprinkling of white stars. It looks just how I imagine a magic wand would.

Containing Jasmine Absolute I always expected that when I first got my hands on a Northern Lights bath bomb that it would smell similar to the Sakura bath bomb. Although I can detect the floral Jasmine Absolute in both bath bombs, they really don’t have that much in common scent-wise. I’d label Sakura as a refreshing scent and Northern Lights as calm and relaxing.

Summed up quickly it’s a musky, floral scent, I want to also say that it’s multi-tonal too but as I have said many times before, I am useless at describing scents. It’s nice and has depth, the more you focus on its scent, the more your nose picks up. A bit like when you look at the night sky for stars, more and more just seem to appear the longer you gaze.

Northern Lights in action

As soon as the Northern Lights bath bomb hits your bath water the most spectacular show begins. You are greeted with mounds of beautiful purple foam followed by blue and then a luminous yellow. Its scent is no longer over empowering and you will find yourself slowly slipping into relaxation, releasing any tension built up from your day.

The colours clash so well, the bath art it creates is ridiculously beautiful.

The only real negative I have in regards to the Northern Lights bath bomb is that it isn’t as moisturising as other bath bombs are. If you are looking for something to hydrate your skin Northern Lights on its own will not serve that purpose.

Lush, you really need to bring out a moisturiser/body lotion with the Northern Lights scent. I always feel so cheated when I have to add another scent to my skin, especially when I like the bath bombs scent so very much. If it wasn’t so drying I could maybe live without using a completely different scented body lotion once out of the bath.

Regardless of its low level of moisturisation and without using body lotion, the Northern Lights scent stays with you all day through. My skin is a little dry afterwards but it’s nothing unbearable.

Its scent on your skin isn’t as strong as when it first came out of its wrapper too.

This is a blessing as, as nice as the scent is, I think if I had to put up with it at maximum-fresh-out-of-the-packet strength for any longer than your average bath I’d be getting a very bad headache.

Last but not least I feel I should mention a little about how fragile the Northern Lights bath bomb is. Whenever I have ordered them for myself, I have been really lucky. All have been fine apart from one that had broken during transit.

The last two or three times that it has however appeared in the Lush Kitchen, a lot of people have had parcels where every single one had broken.

I hope that Lush decide to rethink the Northern Lights bath bomb as it really is a good product albeit a few things they could easily tweak. Maybe they could change its shape slightly so that it is more robust? I am confident changing its shape won’t take too much out of its character.

The Northern Lights bath bomb puts such an amazing bath-time show on, with its hypnotic colours and relaxing aroma. It’s a crime that Lush Cosmetics don’t have any more products sharing its scent!
