Fun for all the Family Bubble Spinner from Lush

Fun For All The Family Bubble Spinner.png

The Fun for all the Family Bubble Spinner is a limited edition bubble bar that was a part of Lush’s 2018 Father’s Day line. When Lush first released the bubble bar equivalent of a fidget spinner last year (the Bubble Spinner) I had no idea what a fidget spinner even was. Just in case you’re new to fidget and bubble spinners I’ll briefly explain the ins and outs below. A fidget spinner is a small toy that usually has two or three prongs arranged around a central bearing. They are designed to be spun by the fingers as a means of improving concentration and a reliever of stress.

The bubble bar equivalents of a fidget spinner, like Fun for all the Family do not however work in quite the same way as the toy fidget spinners – (the water from the tap is what essentially makes the bubble spinner, spin). Getting in on the fidget spinner craze has been a very clever move on Lush’s part and one that seems to have made a great impression on the bubble bath industry. Fun for all the Family is just one of the many bubble spinners Lush have created since the original bubble spinner was released back in August 2017. They just keep getting better and better.

What makes the Fun for all the Family bubble spinner unique to all of the others that have been released prior to it, is the fact that it has five prongs. This not only gives the bubble spinner a new star-like-shape but it also ensures that upon contact with the water running out of the tap, the bubble spinner will ALWAYS spin. Which is something that not all the others have been guaranteed to do (without a little help anyway.)

Jam packed with plentiful feel-good ingredients such as sweet orange and lime oils, the Fun for all the Family bubble spinner is the perfect pick-me-up product. Sharing its scent with the hugely popular limited edition bath bomb, Never Mind the Ballistics I couldn’t resist grabbing one to try. As soon as the Fun for all the Family bubble spinner is held under running tap water its cheerful scent fills your bathroom, it’s like fizzy sherbet sweets but so much better. Bubbles also start to appear very quickly while the bath water underneath them turns the most beautiful shade of blue.

What really impressed me about Fun for all the Family is how quickly it created copious amounts of fluffy, white bubbles, I didn’t need to hold it under the tap for very long at all. More than 60 seconds felt wasteful to me and I got at least 10 baths out of just one bubble spinner making it worth every single penny. Its scent lasts throughout your bath and my skin always felt well hydrated after getting out of the bath whenever I used it, this is very rare on my sensitive skin when it comes down to reusable bubble bars.

Another thing I noticed is how it has held its colour, every other Lush product that I have owned that is largely blue, are always the first to fade in colour. Examples of blue bubble bars that have lost their colour within a month or so are The Christmas Penguin and Bubbling Under. Fun for all the Family is however still very blue and I think my last one was purchased mid-June-time. Its scent although subtle, stays on your skin a good few hours after getting out of the bath too. For a reusable bubble bar Fun for all the Family really blew me away. Lush’s bubble spinners just keep getting better and better!

The Birth of Venus Jelly Face Mask from Lush

The Birth of Venus Jelly Face Mask

The Birth of Venus Jelly Face Mask is one of 5 brand new face masks that Lush released this July. Face masks aren’t new to Lush but ones made into jelly are… To look at, the jelly face masks resemble an ordinary Lush shower jelly they are however used very differently. I had seen pictures of them from the Lush Summit 2017 but unfortunately, they weren’t for sale. I just had to forget about them and hope that Lush made them available in the future and this July, they did!

I always use a clean tea spoon when it comes down to getting Lush face masks out of their pot. I use a spoon to apply the fresh face masks too, I feel it helps the product to last longer, so many people complain about the fresh face masks having such a short shelf life. My method for using a spoon is to stop any cross contamination happening, grabbing a chunk of it out of the pot with your fingers is quick and easy BUT it risks the chance of bacteria from your hands getting in to the rest of the product that you want to save for another time. Using your fingers even if washed well can leave the leftover product to go mouldy very quickly. Since I started using Lush face masks with a spoon my face masks last months and months passed their sell by if kept in the fridge too.

Containing fresh sea water, lavender, chamomile, frankincense and myrrh, there are certain elements to Birth of Venus that remind me ever so slightly of the Blackberry and Big Blue bath bomb.

Applying the jelly masks is completely different from how you would apply the fresh ones. Once you’ve spooned a grape sized amount of jelly from the pot you then work it in your hands to form a paste. This method left me feeling a little uneasy as I am a germ freak and don’t really like to man handle a product for my face with my fingers like that. I however always trust Lush and the results turned out okay.

Unlike the fresh face masks the new jelly face masks do not need to be kept in a fridge, they also have a much longer shelf life than their fresh-face-mask equivalents. Even with this in my mind, I still decided that I’d use a spoon to get the product out of the pot, with it being a jelly formula I thought this would prove a little difficult, it however worked just fine. I found that a very small amount of the, The Birth of Venus jelly in particular went a long way. You can easily get 6 masks out of just the one pot.

Mashing the jelly mask up with my hands was a strange sensation at first, it however formed a paste very quickly, the application of a face mask has never gone on so smoothly for me, normally with the fresh face masks I get drops of it everywhere. After 15 minutes, I took the face mask off with a hot and wet flannel. It came off easily and no residue was left on my face at all.

After a couple of hours I found it had made my skin a little too oily, at first it felt amazing but after an hour or so my skin felt clammy, although my skin had become a little oily than I like, my skin still have a glow about it. Overall I am still impressed with this jelly face mask as it is so easy to apply, less mess than the alternative Lush face masks and it also smells delicious. The fact it makes my skin feel clammy hasn’t put me off of it entirely, I am just going to save it for when my face is in need of some extra hydration instead. I think it will be perfect after a day in the sun so I will be packing it in my suitcase to take on honeymoon with me.

Brightside Body Lotion from Lush

img_1758

Back in May the Lush Kitchen team put a list together of Lush’s most popular scents. We (the Lush community) then had to pick our ultimate top 5 scents from that scent list. With this list the Lush Kitchen had promised to make several never-before-been-released products with those chosen top 5 scents.

I was thrilled when I see that the Brightside scent had been chosen as one of the five, I wasn’t however surprised as it’s a beautiful scent family and one that I think Lush should have expanded long before now. Previous to this I believe there had only ever been two other Brightside scented products, the bubble bar and the Sunrise soap.

BSBL-FThe Brightside Body Lotion was therefore a very much welcomed member of my Lush product collection. Just like the bubble bar of the same name Brightside body lotion has your full attention as soon as you open its lid. Its scent is sweet and zesty which is to be expected with its generous citrus based ingredients list, it contains Mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oil.

All of these ingredients compliment each other beautifully, Brightside’s scent is delightfully cheery, refreshing and uplifting. Unlike the bubble bar and soap the Brightside body lotion however has cocoa butter in, this is totally understandable as the three products are all very different formats, naturally they won’t contain a match by match list of ingredients. After all, a body lotion wouldn’t be a very good lotion without any cocoa butter!

Although the body lotion’s scent is almost identical to both the Brightside scented bubble bar and soap the inclusion of the cocoa butter changes it ever so slightly. Upon first sniff I am reminded of my favourite type of chocolate, orange chocolate. The initial cocoa buttery scent does however dampen down once you get down to applying it.

The Brightside body lotion is quite thin in consistency, it’s not nearly as creamy as the likes of Sleepy or Celebrate body lotion. I actually quite like it like this though, I thought a small amount of Sleepy body lotion went a long way but nothing compares in this department to the Brightside body lotion, lotioning my self up with it makes me feel like I have bathed in unicorns milk, (because that’s a real thing…) It just makes my skin look and feel amazing.

So far all I have used of it is the excess lotion in the lid, with this I have moisturised my arms, legs and chest 5 maybe 6 times already, I love a product that lasts, even more so when it is an exclusive one. Once on your skin the Brightside body lotion isn’t at all greasy, it hydrates my skin just right. It looks and feels brighter.

Unfortunately the scent of the Brightside body lotion almost completely fades fairly soon after application. You can still detect it although it is very, very subtle. I’d love to see a shower gel or cream made in this scent. I have my fingers crossed for the future!
