Abombinaball Shower Jelly from Lush

The Abombinaball Shower Jelly is currently my favourite of the ‘surprise products’ that have been included in the new, monthly Lush-Kitchen-subscription-box.

With it sharing its scent and shape with the insanely popular Abombinaball bath bomb, I knew as soon as I see it that it was going to be one of those products that would cause a tidal wave of excitement to sweep over the Lush community.

At the time of writing this review, the Abombinaball shower jelly has only ever been available in May 2020’s Lush-Kitchen-subscription-box. Since getting a pot, I have been hoping that it would make a return as a limited-edition Christmas product this Winter BUT I’ve not heard anything as of yet so it’s not very likely.

Containing vanilla, infusions of fresh mint and orange peel alongside peppermint and Brazilian orange oils, the Abombinaball shower jelly really is a minty and creamy, vanilla-rich-treat.

As soon as you take off the shower jellies lid you are greeted with its mouthwatering fragrance, the Abombinaball scent really reminds me of the hard-boiled-sweets, Mint Humbugs. If you’re a fan of them, you’ll love this shower jelly.

As I said above, the Abombinaball shower jelly is character shaped. With character shaped shower jellies I find more often than not, that they aren’t always as sturdy and robust as the normal pot shaped ones, beginning to fall apart after just a few uses.

The Abombinaball shower jelly however goes against all odds and is very robust, lasting several showers before showing any signs of usage or wear and tear. I suspect this is because of its rounder shape. Other character-shaped shower jellies are normally small with a fragile and flat thin body such as the Bouncy Bunny Shower Jelly from Lush. Their delicate shape make them much easier to get through and use up.

In use I found that the Abombinaball shower jelly was incredibly hydrating, much more hydrating than any other shower jelly that I have used from Lush before. It lathered up quickly and left my skin soft and clean. The scent, although subtle lasted on my skin for the rest of the day too.

Overall I really liked the Abombinaball shower jelly, it was a wonderful surprise in Lush Kitchen’s first subscription box. It has set the expectations-bar of what wonderful products they dream up next very high!

Sonic Death Monkey Shower Gel from Lush

My very first experience with the Sonic Death Monkey Shower Gel was at the Lush Creative Showcase back in September 2016. Previous to this event, I had always passed on getting Sonic Death Monkey shower gel whenever it had been on the Lush Kitchen menu because it has coffee in it.

After giving it a sniff back at the 2016 Showcase, I wanted to kick myself and vowed to never, ever miss it when it came up on  the Lush Kitchen menu again.

Since then the Kitchen has closed and then, as of May 2020, reopened BUT as a monthly subscription box. The Sonic Death Monkey shower gel thankfully made a return in the very first Lush Kitchen subscription box back in May of this year.

Sonic Death Monkey has a very peculiar mixture of ingredients that against-all-odds actually work brilliantly together. Looking at its ingredients list I shouldn’t be interested in this shower gel at all, its scent is however one of my personal favourites from Lush.

Sonic Death Monkey shower gel contains coffee, cocoa powder, vanilla absolute, organic lime juice and sweet orange and tangerine oils. I don’t like to beat around the bush, I hate the taste and smell of coffee with a passion but there’s something about the Sonic Death Monkey shower gel that I can’t get enough of.

The coffee scent is apparent in this shower gel but the cocoa powder and vanilla absolute round it off giving it a very pleasant smell, it literally makes my mouth water. The added sweetness of the lime juice and other included citrusy essential oils add a softness to it too. All in all, even if you don’t like coffee, there’s a high chance that you may still like the Sonic Death Monkey shower gel.

Sonic Death Monkey’s only sort-of negative is that it has a slightly watery consistency, this doesn’t however hinder its cleaning quality. Although it’s not the foamiest of shower gels it does leave my skin feeling clean, refreshed and beautifully scented after use.

As long as you’re careful at getting it out of its bottle its consistency isn’t much of a problem at all. The caffeine in it leaves my skin appearing brighter and it adds the right amount of hydration too.

Overall I have to admit that I love Sonic Death Monkey, I still can’t get my head around the fact that I happily use a product that contains coffee. I’d love a Sonic Death Monkey bath bomb or body lotion, hint, hint Lush!

Bathos Bubble Bar from Lush

Bathos Bubble Bar

The Bathos Bubble Bar is a very popular, golden-oldie that Lush bring back every now and again. At the time of writing this review it most recently made a return for a limited time in celebration of the invention of bubble bars, 30 years ago.

If you’re a fan of all-things-violet then Bathos is perfect for you. Bathos contains violet leaf, ylang ylang, rose absolute, bergamot and clove bud oils… Roses are red, violets are blue.

On paper it’s a floral scent through and through however the inclusion of ylang ylang and bergamot oil adds an extra but very subtle fruity layer to Bathos’ fragrance. I personally find violet leaf really good at combating tension headaches making Bathos a must have product in my house.

Although the Bathos bubble bar is on the smaller size in comparison to the likes of the, The Comforter bubble bar it does hold its own, it is small but mighty. You can get 2 adequately bubbled baths out of just the one bubble bar.

To use the non-reusable bubble bars like the Bathos bubble bar, I break it up then stick the bubble bar pieces (like the photo below) in to a sieve and let the running-tap trickle over it. This method is the best way to ensure none of the bubble bar gets accidentally wasted and through trial and error, I have come to the understanding that it is the sure way to get the most out of your bubble bar, bubble wise!

Just one half of the Bathos bubble bar creates copious amounts of fluffy white bubbles and turns the water underneath a tantalising shade of shimmery lilac.

Laying back in a Bathos bath, surrounded by the mind-soothing-scent of violets is an excellent way to unwind and destress. When I use a Bathos bubble bar just before bedtime I always find myself dropping off to sleep much easier. 

The shimmery lilac water is so very inviting, it leaves my skin looking and feeling so much brighter. Within minutes of soaking in its water I can feel all of my worries and stresses I’ve carried through out the day, melt away.

As bubble bars go, Bathos in my opinion is one of the best that Lush have on offer. Please Lush, I’d really love to see some new violet-based-products coming out in the near future!
