Sticky Dates Lip Scrub from Lush

Today I am going to be reviewing the Sticky Dates Lip Scrub that first appeared in August 2021’s Lush Kitchen Subscriptions box with a different name, the Salted Caramel lip scrub, it is where the now very famous, Sticky Dates Lush-scent-family all began!

The main ingredient in all of Lush’s lip scrubs is caster sugar. To this day I am still lost for words that such a simple and natural mix of ingredients can do such a great job at exfoliating. It really does make me question why other cosmetic companies ever actively chose to use micro-plastics in their exfoliation products.

Lush’s lip scrubs are ridiculously underrated, if you’re on the fence about giving them a go I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

I use Lush lip scrubs almost every day so whenever a new one comes out, I always make sure I grab a pot.

Using Lush lip scrubs requires a minimum amount of effort, and they cover everything your lips need to always look and feel their best. They are the perfect product to exfoliate dry or chapped lips, and most are also very good at softening and hydrating them at the same time. Exfoliating your lips has so many benefits and thanks to Lush, it has never been easier to do.


As well as caster sugar, the Sticky Dates lip scrub also contains some of the following ingredients: Organic jojoba oil, fairtrade shea butter, fine sea salt, sandalwood oil, carob resinoid, benzoin resinoid, argan oil, organic date syrup, glycerine cocoa powder, paprika oleoresin and mini decorative stars.

Other products that share the same scent as the Sticky Dates lip scrub are the Sticky Dates shower gel, Sticky Dates Co-Mingle body scrub, Sticky Dates body spray, Sticky Dates sugar scrub and Sticky Dates body lotion… Just to name a few!

To use, simply scoop out a pea sized amount of the lip scrub with your finger then buff it on your lips. Once you’ve buffed them to your desired amount simply lick off any excess product.

Lush’s lip scrubs are obviously not meant to be eaten; BUT if a little amount of the lip scrub does accidently end up in your mouth while you are scrubbing your lips, you don’t need to worry!

I tend to favour the lighter or more natural to actual lip-colour lip scrubs over the brightly coloured ones because I find that the highly pigmented scrubs can sometimes leave your lips with a slight tint of whatever colour the lip scrub is.

I am however pleased to report that during use, I haven’t had any colour transfer from the Sticky Dates lip scrub at all. Not that, that would be a huge problem though as it’s very similar looks wise to brown sugar, with hardly any pigment.

Even though I’m usually not a huge fan of super sweet Lush products, I do actually like the smell/taste of the Sticky Dates lip scrub. It’s not the same, sickly-sweet as the Bubblegum lip scrub. It’s just like sticky toffee pudding, I can’t get enough!

A little amount of the Sticky Dates lip scrub goes a long way and it’s the perfect amount of scrubby. The grains in it are about the same size of sugar granules.

After using the lip scrub my lips feel smoother and I also find the formula quite hydrating, I however wouldn’t say no to a Sticky Dates scented lip balm to add to the hydration.

Overall, I love the Sticky Dates lip scrub and am eager to see what Sticky Dates scented products Lush come up with next… Maybe a shower jelly? 👀

Frankenstein Bath Bomb from Lush

The Frankenstein Bath Bomb is a brand-new product from Lush’s 2024 Halloween line. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re likely to recognise the bath bomb immediately as a Frankenstein-themed-item.

What a lot of people don’t know is that Frankenstein isn’t the name of the monster, it is the name of the scientist who created the monster, Victor Frankenstein! Everything you see around Halloween that’s Frankenstein themed is all based on a book written by Mary Shelley in 1818…

This bath bomb is designed to look just like the monster did in what I believe was the first film adaptation of the book. Since, most other adaptations of the monster from the book (including this Lush bath bomb) have had a similar look.

The Frankenstein bath bomb is a cartoonish version of Frankenstein’s monster; It is in the shape of the monster’s face. It is mostly green has a flat, black and very buzz-cut looking, short haircut.

There are also a lot of little details such as its exaggerated facial features. It has big sunken in yellow eyes, bolts in his head and an intense and very grumpy looking frown upon his face.

Each Frankenstein bath bomb is approximately 130g each fitting snuggly in my hand. It was the first of the brand new Halloween bath bombs that I tried.

Frankenstein’s fragrance is a brand new Lush-scent-family and one I am very excited about. Each bath bomb contains galbanum oil, pine oil, geranium oil and fir balsam resinoid.

It has a fresh, green fragrance with a delicate floral undertone. It’s crisp, woody and just smells super clean and refreshing. It’s not as forest-like as the likes of the Guardian of the Forest bath bomb, it’s sweeter and has an almost balsamic richness to it, it’s incredibly moreish.

I hope this isn’t the only product Lush decide to use this scent-family for as I can see it working well as a shower gel or perfume too.

As soon as the Frankenstein bath bomb touches the water there is a huge hiss followed by an explosion of green foam. It’s refreshing, natural scent takes over your bathroom as it slowly dissolves away.

The black ‘hair’ part of the bath bomb appears to dissolve more slowly than the rest, but I think the reason behind this is, where the ‘hair’ is, is only a thin coating of black, it being green underneath.

After just a couple of minutes the water reaches the bath bombs yellow eyes, it starts to spin, as you can see in the photo below it kind of looks like the monster is shooting yellow laser beams from its eyes!

Eventually the water takes over the whole of the bath bomb and all the monster’s features melt away. You are left with bright green bath water decorated with lighter green and black bubbles as shown in the photo below.

The Frankenstein bath bomb is a reasonably slow dissolver taking 12 minutes in total to completely disappear.

The water underneath the bath art is such a bright green it almost glows, I don’t think we’ve seen a bath bomb produce green water as bright as this since the 2016 version of the So White bath bomb.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the Frankenstein bath bomb. I find it a little crazy that a book written so long ago still has such a heavy influence on Halloween and all things spooky.

The scent doesn’t last for very long on my skin once I have got out of the bath, but my skin does feel softer and appears much brighter too.

I’m hoping that this bath bomb isn’t the last we see of this new Lush-scent-family as it’s so unique to everything else Lush currently have on offer. I believe this scent would very easily fit into the Spring season too!
